Samsung to Introduce New Quantum Dot Curved Monitor at CES 2017

Samsung is currently preparing for CES 2017 with a lineup of monitors aimed at gamers and professionals alike. The monitors are supposedly going to feature curvature and quantum dot technology.

Furthermore, the CFG70 lets users take full advantage of AMD’s FreeSync™ feature, which dynamically synchronizes the monitor’s refresh rate to match the output of the graphic card. As a result, users can enjoy playing games with a smoother, more uniform frame display without tearing or stuttering for a far more fluid gaming experience.

 

The first monitor boasts a 16:9 aspect ratio with 1,800R which isn't a common combination to see; the panel type has yet to be disclosed. The second monitor seems to be aimed at gamers with a 144hz refresh rate, 1ms response time and Freesync capability in mind. The panel is supposedly a Vertical Alignment or VA panel which is quite common with Samsung monitors. There will be other monitors that will also be displayed in their booth that are most likely their less expensive products that seem to feature many of what has been aforementioned.

I will be curious to see how Samsung will sell these monitors considering the competition they have to face from manufacturers such as Acer, Ben Q, Asus and many more saturating the market that they have already captured. I will be anxious to see how people will respond to the decision to push more curved monitors into the market with varying aspect ratios to suit almost everyone (16:10 anyone?). What strikes me the most is the fact that they're now going to try to push Quantum Dot into the picture (pun intended) especially with OLED crawling slowly towards the monitor market though their are still some minor tweaks required to get either technology to really entice people to buy them. We'll just have to wait until CES to see how things will shape up.

Will they release a G-sync version of their 3440x1440 100hz free-sync model?  If so, I'm buying it right away.

 

 

I saw some of their quantum dot tv's in a shop the other day, good lord they are gorgeous.

No HDR or equaivent? That being said, uhd 100hz will be a treat for many.

I'm holding out hope for a G-sync 144hz or higher QD HDR display. Until we see that I'm saving my monitor money.

g-sync is a just a gimmick (EDIT: on a screen like this), it adds quite a big amount of input lag. And on a 144hz screen you dont even need it because you cant see screentearing much. Also the fluidity is just fine at 144hz without g-sync, theres no need to pase the frames.

  1. Neither Gsync, nor Adaptive Sync adds input latency.
  2. No monitor has HDR. LG will be introducing a 32" at CES, but that is it.

 

Anyways, I'm still a little disappointed that the 791 is neither 10 bit, nor HDR. But so far, it still seems like the best ultrawide gaming monitor on the market.

Looks to be a very good monitor. Specs are more than decent and MPRT is great. Though nice quantum dot it is. Until OLED I guess it's awesome.

Would like to see G-Sync options, but it seems Samsung is in bed with FreeSync. Hopefully Acer/ASUS/Dell/LG et al follow suit with G-Sync and quantum dot displays. My God it is beautiful.

Or, you know, NV may embrace FreeSync and drop the prices of monitors by $100-200.

I saw some of their quantum dot tv's in a shop the other day, good lord they are gorgeous.

Dont forget it needs to be IPS and NOT glossy

 

and @VagabondWraith free-sync Is free to implement and doesnt add additional hardware. At that point why not add it to every monitor you produce to help the sale.
