This is a legacy list. It is no longer being updated.

The new PSU Tier List can be found here:

Probably in the Pollution category.

Meaning the PSU is so bad that it should never have been made because all it did was pollute the planet by beeing manufactured.

That looks like a low end Andyson unit:

http://www.jeffsreviews.com/raidmax-cobra-power-500-watt-psu-review/

And with a shity Protection IC.

So no, get away from that, don't buy!

Well it's not great option's in the low Budget area. It's Specific to unit to unit. And the Cheaper stuff has a very single minded Protection circuitries usually.....You should get a known better unit. And you get what you pay for in Electrical Engineering.

The friendly battle between Jay & Steve? Yeah it's entertaining watching the battle between the two and how they're leap frogging each other and going down different paths.

Likes of kingpin and der8auer will always end up taking the top spots in the end, but they seem to have provided plenty of advice and help to Jay & Steve as well.

I kinda want Jay to team up with Kingpin and Steve with De8bauer (like a collab or something) that'd be neat

Is there really any info on the newer Seasonic's Prime Snow Silent units? Do they fall where their older Snow Silent brother did?

But is it really silent as it's name indicates, cause fellow members here helped me find out that Primes are not really silent when they exit hybrid mode.

Edit: I mean can it match be quiet in terms of noise?

probably not.

If you want it quiet, get a quiet (be quiet?) unit.

I don't get why you try to aviod the good stuff from one of the last PC-Component manufacturers that are remaining in Germany...

Not sure if it's based on the Prime or the Prime Ultra. If it's based on the Prime Gold or Platinum, it won't be particularly quiet. If it's based on the Prime Ultra versions, it will be quite quiet.

No, i really don't try to avoid that(i always go for European products if i have the choice). Only thing i am skeptical about is that the dark power pro is semi-modular which is not something bad at all but i would like to use white cables. It's more of an aesthetics issue. And i think seasonic gives bigger warranty if i m not mistaken.

Then get the Straight Power 11. That is fully modular. Problem solved.

Just something:

The Long Warranty is not that important.

You have to read the terms!

Wear and tear is usually excluded.

Selling it on the used marked is excluded (even for Seasonic)

You probably have to send it to Germany anyway...

Here the Terms:

https://seasonic.com/support

Here the Money quotes:

  • The product was not damaged due to normal wear and tear or acts of nature, such as lightning, flood or fire.

  • The product is used according to their intended usage, which is to power PC systems:
  • Using the power supply for mining or powering any other electronic systems that are not personal computers will negate the warranty of the power supply.
  • If the power supply is modified or used in an unusual ambient environment or in any other way that falls outside of the boundary of Intel’s current ATX specification – including cooling requirements, connector configuration and pertinent electrical and signal timing specifications, the warranty might be void.

That more or less means that the Manufacturer can say "naa, not Warranty, you used it outside intended usage"...

I thought of that. It would be also about 70 € less to go for the straight power. Does their efficiency difference(if there is any at all) make that much of an impact? Or there are more differences there?

Not a significant impact unless you run your PC 24/7

There's really not much difference between the two. Here are the efficiency ratings for each Be Quiet unit taken from the Be Quiet website (because I can't be bothered looking up independent reviews).

Straight Power 11 550W

Quote

Eco / Efficiency

80PLUS certification Gold
Efficiency (%) at 230V, 20% load 91.4
Efficiency (%) at 230V, 50% load 93
Efficiency (%) at 230V, 100% load 91.2

Dark Power Pro 11 550W

Quote

Eco / Efficiency

80PLUS certification Platinum
Efficiency (%) at 230V, 20% load 91.6
Efficiency (%) at 230V, 50% load 94
Efficiency (%) at 230V, 100% load 92

So as you can see there's going to be less than 1% difference in terms of efficiency between the two units, and at lower idle loads (20%) only 0.2% difference in efficiency. They're both very efficient units, and aren't going to make any noticeable difference to your power bill even if you were running both 24/7.
You'll save a lot more money by saving the 70 Euros and going with the Straight Power 11.

Hello, is there any update on the topic about the Asus Rog Thor Platinum PSU 850/1200 watts?

Also what's the actual difference on the Corsair RMx 850 ( 2017 ) and the new ( 2018 ) edition?

I got myself the Corsair 2018 RMx 850 gold version

The Thor is the Prime Platinum. You can find a review on Tomshardware.

Practically, the difference for the RMx is that the 2018 is shorter for the higher wattage versions.
