Anthrax 7.0 - Mostly Whoosh With A Bit Of Sploosh

Update: #012

============

There is a story behind this update. I love how the individual sleeved cables look but never really wanted to take apart my PSU cables to sleeve them. Also it just makes them look better you gain no performance unless you use better or thicker cable, which I have never seen anyone do. So I never considered doing it. Recently with making your pc pretty getting popular and companies responding with "bolt on" things to achieve this really nice quality PSU extension cables are now available. Still though I had no real need for them, that was until I got the Air 540 where I got a great idea. Since the PSU is on the other side I could have the extension's female ends in the side with the PSU, that way you could change out the PSU without having to unplug anything from the motherboard side. This to me ended up being even more important after the full mock up with the radiator that will be in an update soon.

No it isn't keep guessing. I will give you a clue, it's a really bad anime that I should be ashamed that I have seen.

I'm ashamed that I even know what this is from

It was a short series and I heard it was ok having nothing else to do during summer. I've never been made so uncomfortable by anything else in my life, I swear I feel less paranoid watching flat out porn.

The only redeeming thing about that atrocity was the somewhat (pretty clear what happened imo) ambiguous ending. Would not go anywhere near again.

@TheProfosist wouldn't it have been cheaper to just sleeve the entire PSU than buy all those extensions? It wouldn't really be that hard.

Well I know this hasnt been updated in just about forever but I do have tons a pics back from when I was building it that are not even up yet. I did get a different motherboard though at the Sabertooth X79 that came from RMA was also bad and im still trying to get them to fix everything. I picked up the ASUS X79-Deluxe and as of last night commenced building.

For those of you who are interested in my build log I am sorry that I havnt really had time to sort through all of the pictures and post updates recently. To keep you guys amused in the meantime I have uploaded pictures of everything I have done so far to a temporary directory. Please note they are not sorted and there are many duplicates but it does contain all of the pictures I have taken so far but not sorted and put into an update. The link to check out such a thing is HERE.

Edit: I had to remove the temporary pictures because they were using up a good chunk of my storage and I ran out and did want to pay for an upgrade.

I can't access the pictures, I get an error. Can you have look?

Also, how much did that thing cost? Just out of curiosity.

My bad last night I exceeded my storage limit it was either pay photobucket for more storage and bandwidth or delete that temp folder which was over 700 pictures. Ill update the thread to show that. Hopefully this weekend I might have some time to get some more updates up. Though I am currently working on more than this system, there is my laptop and a IvyBridge system I need to get together to test some components.

Umm idk? Its not done yet for one and most of the bigger stuff I tried to get deals on. Also a good bit of stuff was originally going to be reused from other or older builds. When im done and the parts list is complete your welcome to total it up. At this point id almost rather not know since it taken so long and ive bought parts as some of the RMA's are taking forever to get fixed.

Update: #013

============

Well I started test fitting some of the cables. Im glad I started with the PSU extensions as the 24pin extension that ordered was a tad longer than what I ordered. I also found out that I ordered too short extensions for the 6pin PCI-E's for the GFX cards. I contacted FrozenCPU right away and they were great and setup a exchange right away.

Update: #015

I learned after running RAID for many years that labeling the cables is quite handy when a drive is dropped or dies. Its an easy way to know the exact drive to unplug so you dont accidentally unplug the wrong drive and degrade your array further and no longer be able to rebuild it.

I found these capacitive SATA power splitters a while back and thought that they would be a good idea in this rig because I have so many drives. My favorite thing about them is the phrase on the box "Delicate sorted cables for computer-fanciers".

The sata cables

The SATA cables are from monoprice.

Now if you meant the capacitated sata power cables I got those on amazon. Here is the 3 drive one and here is the 4 drive one. I believe silverstone also makes a version of these but their a bit more and the orico ones look the same quality if no better. Also just a heads up normally the brick part that has the capacitor in it ends up above the drives but this can easily be changed to the other direction. You can change the gaps between them as well if you wish, which is what I did when i had 4 ssd in 2 3.5in HDD bays with adapters as there was almost no gap between the two drives paired together but a large gap between the two pairs.

Update: #017

============

Here are a few pics of the bolts and hardware I got for for mounting my fans and rads. There are also a few pics of test fitting and mocking up the H320's rad. I figured out a trick to easily mount the fans that go between the rad and the case as I was doing this. If you take a look at the 4th picture you can see what I did. I put fan screws into 2 of the screw holes in the fans and let the other two open so that I could feed the bolts through to the rad. Once those bolts were secured I took out the fan screws and put in the rest of the bolts.
