Samsung 850 Pro V.S. Corsair Neutron XT

For my new computer I had 2 choices in mind for SSD's. One of the choices is the Samsung 850 Pro SSD and the other is the Corsair Neutron XT. Over all the XT shows better read/write speeds and is a more reliable SSD but with a hefty price. The Pro has more storage for price but has worse read/write speeds. If I get the Pro, I was going to get 2 1TB for $428 each. If I get the XT, I was going to get 2 960GB's for $500 each.

I would go with the Samsung Pro since it has a awesome write speed and it is harder to mess up the Samsung SSD's in general especially the data center edition.

These are tests done very recently

you will notice a much bigger difference after having used the SSDs for several years

endurance is a lot more important than "this SSD is faster by 20MBps"

The XT is better at constant write speeds and some cameras only use it.

The overall pricing is, eh.  I'd go with 850 Evo's, as 3D TLC gets around the performance / reliability issues of TLC because of the manufacturing process, but if you are set on MLC - I'd get the Corsair.  Corsair support is top notch, and some people can barely reach Samsung when they have issues at times.  May be region dependent, but you can't go wrong with Corsair.

Corsair just needs to fix their pricing and be more competitive in the SSD space with the Neutron XT, but then again they're mostly SSD's for Black-magic cameras, so, eh.

From my experience, yes.

 

My 120GB Corsair ForceGT died ~4 years in...after a typical Windows 10 update -- quite literally about a month ago. Too bad the drive only came with a three-year warranty.

Plus, the Samsung 850 Pro comes with a 10-year warranty, and can sustain larger amounts of writing / re-writing.

 

I have a feeling the controllers on Corsair SSD's are over-driven, so they perform a "bit" faster.
