I have a 5820k OC'd to 4.4Ghz. It doesn''t even matter cuz Novigrad is the only CPU intensive area in that game and my dips were in the open world areas.

That's odd. Other than the AIO mines reference. RAM speed maybe? I'm at 2200mhz

Yeah. Wasn't really talking about witcher 3 which is one of the best optimized games for PC. Glad it runs like a dream on your PC :) Mainly games like Crysis 3 and GTA 5 which are really hard to run maxed. But the main thing I don't like about powerful hardware is that it gives developers an excuse to be lazy and not optimize them as well. Although we do enjoy higher framerates/resolution, games should also be looking a lot better than they do on console with PC. 

 

Yeah, Witcher 3 stays at a locked 99% gpu usage for me on my 1231v3 + 970 setup on a mix of high and very high 1080p or any setting higher than that as long as I have vsync off. Even in Novigrad and that swamp the Crones live in.

For a mid/high level card, yeah. But the Fury carries an enthusiast price tag. They should have stuck with DDR5 so as to give it 8g like the 390. The memory is what holds the Fury back.

Fury is a good card. Especially the new Fury Nitro which can actually overclock now. This makes all the difference.

But that price. At 1080p a 390x matches it and a 980 walks all over it. Sure the 980 runs out of breath at higher resolutions but I wouldn't advise a 980 for anything over 1080p for that reason.

For a mid/high level card, yeah. But the Fury carries an enthusiast price tag. They should have stuck with DDR5 so as to give it 8g like the 390. The memory is what holds the Fury back.

I had to return my GTX 970 as it was faulty and now have no GPU.

 

I am thinking about shelling out for a 980 instead, as I had fallout 4 running at 60-75fps on ultra and feel the next gen of PC games will simply not allow me to crank the graphics with a 970 at 1080p

 

Problem is the 980 is 4GB of RAM as well.

 

I am currently without a GPU and just running off my 4670k integrated graphics but I would like to get back to gaming soon..

 

Any ideas

CF, however, does scale quite a bit better so if one was planning on getting a 2nd one then a Fury would indeed offer a tangible performance advantage as Fury CF was reaching 980 TI SLI in 4K with the Fury X being 10% or more ahead at 4K with 2 cards

That is one thing the Furys do well is crossfire, but that memory issue pops back up again. Not the cards fault, games don't detect the type of memory, just how much.

But it does not. HBM allows for insane amounts of data to be swapped out in an instant whereas GDDR5 over a 256-bit bus results in much slower and smaller chunks being quickly interchangeable hence why at 4K you see 0 stutters with a Fury X whereas a 980 sees quite a bit.
