I'm no expert but I don't feel that the average joe will ever need to buy 600g of thermal paste. Just posting this since it seems kinda weird that some company thought that people need 600g of thermal paste..

 

BUT - I plan on buying a Hyper TX3 and I'm unsure as to what brand and how much I should get for it, or is the stock compound good enough (If it comes with some)

I'm no expert but I don't feel that the average joe will ever need to buy 600g of thermal paste. Just posting this since it seems kinda weird that some company thought that people need 600g of thermal paste..

 

BUT - I plan on buying a Hyper TX3 and I'm unsure as to what brand and how much I should get for it, or is the stock compound good enough (If it comes with some)

It's a Cooler Master heatsink, it should come with a tube of Cooler Master paste - probably one of the best stock thermal pastes out there. Works great with everything I've used it with. It's just a couple of degrees underneath Arctic Silver.

this is probably marketed towards system builders or people working with large contact areas, outside of the computer world.

 

for us regular plebs they have small tubes with 5-10 uses in them.

The same reason I want to buy one forum member's Dell Poweredge 2950. I don't need a 2U rackmount server, but I'm such a computer-hoarding maniac that it would just be so cool to have one.

i honestly think that (certainly when you have a heat spreader) its a waste of time to spread the paste out evenly, i personally prefer the X method because i'm very scared of adding too much, and it helps me to dose the correct amount. i'm not gonna complain if someone uses an old halogen bulb to spread their paste, just dont expect me to do the same.

 

theres scenarios where spreading it out evenly is certainly something worth considering tho (like when delidding, make sure you got that entire die covered.

I use liquid metal when delidding. When it comes to the IHS, I just put the usual bloop of thermal paste in the middle.
