17, College not working. What should i do! UK

has159

I understand that, That's where the other issue is.. there doesn't seem to be many IT internships (if they are what i think they are) out there.

Coming from someone who hires many interns ill give you some advice.. Be social. I know that sounds weird but make some friends around your school in general. We look to hire based off of recommendations from people we hired previously. For example lets say we hired someone named billy for a internship or whatever. Billy does really well for 5 months and then comes up and says he my friend needs a job and i can vouch for him. Guess whos going to get hired/interviewed before the 300+ other applicants. Billies friend :).. Hope this sorta made sense lol.

That does make sense although i haven't met anyone who could do it but still its worth a try. :)

I've heard about these "IT" college programs before and they seem like a complete waste of time. What courses are you taking exactly?

Building and troubleshooting computers, as well as "experience with Windows and office" is not what you should be studying at uni. That's like middle school or high school stuff. Those skills won't help you get a good job either.

What job do you aim for specifically? The only job I can think of where your skills might come in handy is like working at Geek Squad, and if that's your goal then you have set the bar extremely low.

Do you have mental stamina? can you push yourself further than most? Armed Forces will take you on if you fit the bill, you can get a trade and have a great standard of living, whilst learning life skills, discipline and travelling much of the world.

I completed the same Level 3 and found it fairly straightforward as well, I started to bring my own Laptop in (Most colleges require you PAT test it) and doing my own activities on the side. If the course is easy then you can pick up a good amount of UCAS points (even in 1 year) and that will open up higher education opportunities. I'm currently doing a BSc in Computer Science and it's definitely more interesting than the Level 3 was.
