Won't work, can't use an X99 board with a 6700K

GTX 980 Ti is much better value for money than the Titan X.

Also, don't create more threads to advertise this one. The thread's been up 5 minutes, be patient.

What's your budget?

Do you need CUDA for any of your work?

What is your typical workload?

Have you ever done any liquid cooling before?

X99 won't work with Skylake CPU, sorry.

Titan X is an overkill.

You seriously want to use NAS as your main storage? Do you have proper network infrastructure in place? Otherwise your performance is going to suffer bigtime.

Liquid cooling - sorry, if you were experienced with LC, you wouldn't have to hear suggestions on LC parts. It's your money, you'll do whatever you want, but liquid cooling without experience is asking for trouble. Especially since you don't really know what you're doing even as far as PC building is concerned.

What will this be used for specifically? Budget?

Also, "workstation" and "liquid cooled so I can overclock" generally don't go together

There is no budget.. Its unlimited..

and the workload is rendering videos. Hosting multiple VMs.. Hosting SQL Servers and FTP Servers.. Gaming all at eh same time...

Again, do you need CUDA?

*note: some of this stuff is more expensive than it needs to be (mobo, RAM) and was just based off your suggestions, so it could be changed.

Pro Tip: don't use flash when taking pictures of your build; use a longer exposure instead. Prop up your camera with something (preferably a tripod) if necessary.

if you use retarded/autistic/etc to mean stupid please gtfo

There will be, but it won't be X99

Yeah, it'll still be X99. Go watch the latest WAN show.

There is no budget.. Its unlimited..

and the workload is rendering videos. Hosting multiple VMs.. Hosting SQL Servers and FTP Servers.. Gaming all at eh same time...

and liquid cooling and overclocking is for the moments when I will do gaming or video rendering..

What's good for games is generally not good for servers/workstations, and vice versa. Eg, lots of cores in a workstation is good since the applications will generally use all of the cores, while in games only 3 or 4 cores would get used, so you'd want fast cores.  Also when you're overclocking those servers will go down, and instability could mean you lose data when the PC crashes.

Since budget is unlimited, get 2 systems. 1 server/render box/workstation and 1 gaming/overclocking machine.

@skyress3000 has suggested a really good gaming build, (apart from the WD red drive, which is meant for use in NASes/servers ;) ) so I'll tackle the workstation/server part of the specification:

CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2697 V3 2.6GHz 14-Core Processor  ($2549.99 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H90 94.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($78.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock X99 WS-E EATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard  ($414.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Samsung 16GB (1 x 16GB) Registered DDR4-2133 Memory  ($107.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Samsung 16GB (1 x 16GB) Registered DDR4-2133 Memory  ($107.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Samsung 16GB (1 x 16GB) Registered DDR4-2133 Memory  ($107.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Samsung 16GB (1 x 16GB) Registered DDR4-2133 Memory  ($107.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX Titan X 12GB Video Card (2-Way SLI)  ($994.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX Titan X 12GB Video Card (2-Way SLI)  ($994.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $5909.65
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

that and add a raid card for the hard drives to ensure you won't lose any data if a drive dies

So there you have it, if you do want to blow $10k on computer parts, there's an option for you :)

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

I bet there will be a 6960X or 6970X that has slightly better performance for the same price, but with a different chipset. Will the 6950X be the same socket type too?

It's Broadwell-E so same socket (LGA2011-3) And no, the 6950X appears to be the top of the line chip at $999.

Now I know that X99 is sold to me- before I was doubtful because I thought for the 6 series they'd release a new chip set, thanks for that.

Intel's naming scheme for i7 extremes is confusing... Haswell-E was i7-5xxx and Broadwell-E will be i7-6xxx so Skylake will be i7-7xxx... They should make it a little clearer :P

You're right. What happened to the i7 5770K, or 5790K...

They were called the i5-5675c and i7-5775c, only 2 desktop Broadwell CPUs were ever released :/ And I want a 5775c :P

Before we go any further, what'll you be using the FTP servers and SQL servers for? Can you have downtime of them? Will you be getting paid for hosting them?

The build will sort of depend on these things
