Is $90 good for a R9 270?

I was looking at my local advertisements (Kijiji). And I stumbled upon this R9 270 for $100. I was able to bring the price down to $90 from the owner. The only reason I was looking is because I currently have an EVGA GTX 660 SC and I cannot do surround with dual monitors.

 

I know dual monitors are not worth to invest into playing games with them but the R9 270 beats the GTX 660 and the price is pretty good in my opinion. Also AMD's Eyeinfinity allows dual monitors to work which is a win win. Do you guys think this card is good for $90?

 

If I don't like the card I can always sell it back for around $80 and basically get my money back as it retails for like $179.99 in Canada.

It is insanely good, yes. Just make sure it works well, as it was most likely a mining card.

Usually with cards that have been used for mining they will start artefacting in a couple months, and sometimes outright fail. It's a gamble, but for $90 its not that bad.

Find out how old the card is, even if it's a year old and was used for mining, it should last you a while anyway, I have an old 6850 that chugs along fine, even after it was thrashed by my mate, than me and now chills in dads pc.

First ask if he has the original receipt and box, He mentions it has a warranty but in most cases you need a proof of purchase for RMA and you always need the box. Second when you test it give the fans a twirl with your fingers and check if either of them move with a lot of resistance (mining cards fans tend to fail/seize up). Third go there and do a couple runs on a benchmark like Unigine Valley to make sure the card performs properly and doesn't artifact etc.

Consumer GPUs are no longer profitable for mining, which is why everyone is selling them for so cheap. They cost more in power than you can make back with their low hash rate. You need an ASIC miner to make any kind of profit.

the last time I mined litecoin was about 6 moths ago. The difficulty I think was around 3000 when I first started and you could make profit from that. I just looked up the difficulty and its at like 24 000. Definitely not using this card for mining

Haha nice. I bought a used HD 5850 from a friend that ran at 60-70c idle and in the 90's during Unigine Valley. He bought that card back in 2009 and used it for regular gaming since the day he bought it without ever once cleaning it or replacing the thermal paste. I did both of those things and managed to drop the temps right down and flashed the bios to OC'd it to 875/1250 from 725/1000. I gave that card to my brother and it's been running strong with no issues.

Tell him you want to test it first, run a test for about an hour or so on 3DMark and if it doesnt crash or artifacts I would say buy it.
