Would be nice to end a post that's already solved especially in longer threads.

You can mark a post as the best answer - it doesn't prevent people from continuing to reply, but it does signal that the topic is solved and you don't need more input. Is there a reason why you would want to actively prevent more people from posting in the topic?

They have the option to mark the post as solved. The solved threads stay up so in the future if someone has a similar issue, they can find a way to fix it.

No, sometimes the best answer doesn't work and people just keep jumping on a kinda dead thread. Also @zeusthemoose didn't notice that they stayed up

You can report your own threads for locking. For necro we decide case-by-case.
