5600xt vs rx5700

Do you think it’s worth paying extra for the 5700 for 1080p 144hz gaming or just go with the 5600xt? My rx580 is starting to artifact so I need to get something now. 
I was trying to hold out for the nvidia ampere but apparently that’s not happening now. 
 

I can get the 5600xt for $279 or the 5700 for $319 or the rtx 2060 ko for $319

The 5700 is the best card but the 2060 has ray tracing 

So it comes down to whether you want that or not. 

 

The 5600xt is kindof not much slower than the 2060 but the card is weird atm with a new bios update that amd rolled out and not all cards are getting it. So some are good and some are not it's weird. 

Atm I would buy the 5700 for the fps 

And the 2060 if you want the rtx

What custom models of these GPUs you're planning to get are more important. 2060 KO is better if you dont want to tweak the software, but it does have inferior hardware.

Why is holding out with the RX 580 not an option? Especially with Cyberpunk 2077 and Dying Light 2 not coming out until late in the year now. And Doom 2016 loved AMD gpus and was easy to run, so Doom Eternal might run really well on your 580 too.

 

As for whether there will be Ampere gaming gpus, we don't really know shit right now since we have rumors about how great it's going to be and others about how Ampere will only be GA100 for Teslas and Quadros. Might have to wait for Computex in June to find out. Personally, I'd hold out with the RX 580, as that's still a really good card and this is an absolute shit time to be buying a new gpu when we don't even know what the new console baseline for games is going to be (though the prevailing rumor is the PS5 will have an RX 5700 XT level gpu in it plus some form of hardware RT). Even if Ampere doesn't happen this year, we'll still get RDNA2 from AMD.

Also if you get 5600 XT, make sure it's a card with a BIOS update and 14Gbps GDDR6. Which completely eliminates any MSI card for example, unless you want their $340 Gaming Z. The Sapphire Pulse is $290 though and has both the BIOS update and 14Gbps GDDR6, so that's the 5600 XT I'd buy if I was buying one.

The 580 is throwing artifacts and blue screened on me last night twice. The card is on its way out.

Id rather wait for ampere but I can’t. Going off the 2000 series that launched in what September with the 2080 and we didn’t get the 2060 til January. No way I can make it a year on a card throwing artifacts. 
 

I've taken the card apart, cleaned it and put new thermal paste on it. Still throws artifacts so unfortunately it’s time to switch it out for something else and I’ve got a $320 budget max right now

Oh man that sucks, I see Powercolor only has two year warranties on their 580s. So I assume you're out of warranty now? Don't know how I missed the artifcating part since it's right at the beginning of your post. I'd personally go as high as you can spend if trying to game at 144 Hz, so 5700 over 5600 XT is a no-brainer IMO. Just make sure to do your homework on the 5700s, as there are a few really bad models. ASUS TUF for example is so bad it needs to be recalled from the market since it seems to have no cooling for the VRAM, based on what I see in a couple of videos Hardware Unboxed did on it. If I remember right, XFX and MSI also have a couple of really crap models that get very bad GDDR6 temps (though nowhere near as bad as the ASUS TUF), so those are probably to be avoided too. I think I saw those problems on videos from Gamers' Nexus. Though I think with the MSI card you can RMA it and they'll center their thermal pads correctly over the GDDR6 chips, which brings temperatures down a few degrees (they were way off-center in GamersNexus' teardown).

The one that goes for $319 is the DD that I think has the Thicc II cooler, which GamersNexus was not at all a fan of.

For $309 it looks like a good price to performance wise card. I guess if anything I could grab it off amazon and if it’s awful just return it. 
I don’t see it say Thicc on the packaging anywhere but is that xfx trying to cover up the fact that Steve duked on it in the video ?

It’s a shame to have to do all this digging online to find out what cooler it’s actually using. I’ve got a amazon CC so I’d get 5% cash back on it making it $295 or I can get a sapphire pulse 5600xt for $275.

Well on the upside, the XFX has a three year warranty while Sapphire only does two year warranties on their cards. I just watched the second video again and there is no fix given (it was the MSI card that had the easy fix). Maybe check the first one and see what Steve says about it. I think he does the most in-depth gpu reviews on the web, and for $310 (or $295 with your cash back) it might very well be worth it. Too bad they don't have a Sapphire Pulse 5700 for a reasonable price. Part of what Steve seems to hate is the price, and you're not talking a high price version of the card here any more.

I ordered an EVGA RTX 2060 KO off newegg for $299 on thursday. The card seems to perform well and tech of Tomorrow's video he said it hit 71c in temps

 

If u want 5600xt get the sapphire pulse. I believe it was on reddit but a sapphire rep said all of their gpus in the north american market will ship with the updated bios.

Any proof? I have never seen any RTX 2060 do 60fps stable at 1080p with RTX enabled.

I'm talking of personal experience but some 2060s have really poor cooling. Depends on case and airflow ofc. I can't even dream of 144 fps and 1080p without hitting 85C in couple minutes of gameplay in ultra. Never tried rtx because I can set up BBQ after. I got 2 Noctua fans pushing cold air to card. 

 

So imo, dont go for the cheapest 2060 if you get one...

i own a omen laptop with the rtx 2060. and no it doesnt do 60fps with all on ultra. but it is all playable metro is at 45fps shadow of the tomb raider also

battlefield 5 is over 60 fps

 

and you have to keep in mind that the desktop card does 10-20 fps more than my laptop one.

um ? more fps and enabling rtx shouldnt change gpu temps imo.

 

actually high fps gaming affects cpu more than it does gpu. the gpu is always at a 100% so temps shouldnt differ that much if at all

Personally, below 60fps average is unacceptable for something this expensive already, especially with a 144Hz monitor OP has planned. Also don't see why anyone would use anything but ultra when RTX is enabled, this tech is all about the little details and turning down any of the settings blurs them away, making their visual effect even smaller while still keeping a lot of the impact to frame rate.
