Ok, this time for real, RAM overclocking?

I made a similar topic a while ago but since my hw is pretty new and stuff (Im also getting mysterious "WHEA" errors,  which doesn't seem to do anything tho,  no crashes,  no weird stutters, etc) I didn't do it yet,  but I finally want to overclock my RAM now - not knowing how to even begin with that though lol.

Also questions:

-  I have 2x8 GB vengeance lpx 3200 currently installed,  but I also have 2x4 GB vengeance lpx 3000 lying around...  Can I mix them and still OC them to like 3400?  Or does that not make any sense,  isn't worth the trouble?

- What kind of gains could I even expect from let's say OC my 3200 RAM sticks to ~3400+ ?   How many EFFFPEEESSS?   xD

Can you OC the lpx 3000 just by themselves to 3400? If not, then no.

I see,  well I'm not sure how but I suspect chances are it should work - other question is if it would be even worth it for gaming to have 8GB more,  and "24GB" seems a bit odd (well,  it is)

I guess it makes more sense to try with the currently installed 16GB - just to see if I get any noticeable gains at all  :)

If you already have the 3000MHz RAM, you could, you know, just try if you can OC it to 3400MHz or not, instead of just guessing. That said, a 400MHz bump from 3000MHz is quite a bit, I doubt you can actually do it.

It is possible with vengeance pretty good overclocking I went from 2400 to 3000 but mixing sets..  not so much ? not done it in a while but I remember BSOD after about a hour with mix matched sticks

Hmm, I see, thanks for the info.

And yeah, it wouldn't really make sense to OC the lower RAM first,  just to see if it works at all... Like I said it seems much more feasible to OC what's currently installed... If there are any gains to be had 16GB are surely enough... I wasn't sure but I see that now lol.

So any tips how to get going?

I think I got the advice previously to just use XMP settings / "try it" option (it's a MSI auto OC RAM thing)  but if that doesn't work, what then!?

I know there's a Ryzen RAM calculator but I looked at that quickly and it kinda goes over my head tbh. So many numbers @.@

A easier way is to set the XMP to the highest profile and then keep that on and then increase your voltage but by bit as well as the xmp on you can adjust the ram frequency on it's on can upload my bios settings if it helps on what I mean bro happy to help

Alright thanks I'll give it a try.  And what did you set in Advanced DRAM configuration?

I left it set from the XMP profile then just changed the voltage and stand alone frequency

Let me know how far you get then I will help you out if you get stuck
