2 Internet service providers

Hey guys,

 

Recently in my household we got 2 active 1GBPS lines installed our house by two different providers. I was wondering if I got two ethernet ports on my Desktop in theory would I be getting 2gbps or do you think there will be an IP conflict or something along those lines that will cause it not to work.

you cant just combine 2 internet connections together to achieve 2gbps downloads, you can just balance your load between two lines and thats where load balancing devices and software come to play. Windows usually favors the first ethernet device that has connection.

Thanks, I will look into this just looking into this, if I can't its not a big deal because I'm only doing it "just because"

Okay that parts is right. I just needed to post my dead memes.

@rcmaehl Only problem is a device like that would only be good up to 1Gbit. Not to mention there's negotiation that has to go on on the ISP end and if he's using 2 different providers I don't know how willing they'd be to bond the other end of that connection to give him 2Gbit.

 

I'd opt for configuring LA and find multi-client uses that can leverage the extra connection.

I'd assume iTel now has other solutions for higher than 1Gbit now that's been 3 years, but he'd have to reach out. iTel specifically mentions multiple ISPs on their websites so iTel has no issues bonding multiple ISPs. I'm just trying to provide the most user-friendly LTT related, albeit non-free, solution.

Then his routers going to need to be 10Gig capable (I mean yeah Pfsense would be an option)

 

Then his computer's gonna need a 10Gig NIC (I know those are getting pretty cheap today)

 

This would be a lot of work and headache even if it doesn't cost all that much.

 

But, I'm all for seeing it happen. Something others in the future could look forward to if it works.
