Hide from the internet?

CuriousBro

I just googled my name and saw that within the last 3 months my name and address along with political affiliation has been posted everywhere. I am going through the long process to have every service accept FaceBook and LinkedIn remove me from their search. Is there anyone who knows of a service I can buy that specializes in doing this for me. Simple emailing all the websites, WhitePages, etc and having them take my name off their databases?

No such thing.  This isn't the movies where you run a script and you get scrubbed from the internet.  You can make requests, but I wouldn't hold your breath that they'll remove you.

Unless you really think hitting that Unsubcribe button doesn't just confirm you really are at that email address? :)

Theres little to no chance that you'll get removed/scrubbed from the internet like @jstudrawasaid. Sadly that's just how the internet works, once it's out there it's pretty much permanent.

I suggest someone starting the company. And we aren't talking a script. We are talking about going through the boring process of emailing companies and asking them to remove a name from the registry. Especially the ones you're referring to that are hard to get through to.

Sadly, asking and even cajoling or threatening doesn't work.  Legally or otherwise.

Yeah it's not a good idea to put your real name on the internet, not at all. Use pseudonyms, different usernames, things that are hard to search for, etc. Once something is on the internet, getting it off is impossible. Depending on where your data is being hosted you might be able to request its removal, but that's probably not going to work.

That is literally what I do. I have fake name and birth-date that sometimes shows up in places that never asked for the information. So at least I've got that going for me. My senses tell me it's all from voter registration. If I understand this correctly, they released the information recently and no site has any other information.

You're saying your voter registration is fake name and birthday?

Darn, guess I'll have to stop using my real name on here then.  Gonna have to think about a username first ...

It will probably be easier to change your real name than to contact every site and search engine and pray that they all remove your info.  By all means do consider that option, even if it is fairly drastic.

Why are you ignoring the biggest profiling service out there? FB is almost singlehandedly responsible for the destruction of online privacy, and everyone seems to be perfectly okay with that.

LinkedIn is a close second...

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

It's not illegal to put fake info into social media and many other sites.  It becomes fraud when you are using it to hide it during certain aspects, like a business transaction or to the government in some way.  Now, if they put in a fake name and other fake info for voter registration then yes that is fraud.  Using an alias on FB won't get you into legal trouble.

sorry i meant its illegal for the voting registration people to post what party you voted for

At least in the US, voter registration is part of the public record and typically includes full name, address, and party affiliation if provided. Depending on locale you may be required to select a party to vote in primary elections.

If that's all the info you found on yourself, you're in good shape.

That actually might be one of the most dangerous things to be visible given our current political climate and clear mental instability of certain individuals.
