IDK since I don't know where to get a reliable PPD benchmark. I'm running 32GB 3200Mhz CL16 DDR4, 4x8GB in quad channel so I do have higher system RAM bandwidth than many other platforms.

Oh... I misread that, you want pricing data, @Gorgon did a post about that.... 

 

TLDR if money is no issue the 2060 was the best to get if I remember, hopefully he can link the post as I have no idea what it was called.

How do they compare to something like a Vega 56? You can get those used for around $200, could maybe talk an ex-miner down a little more.

Yeah the full acronym would be PointsPerDay PerDollar. And honestly, if I weren’t wanting to go completelybonkers and try for 1440 144 GTA, I probs. would go 2060 for my main rig

You have to understand that Vegas are just not that great for folding, when I have my 64 it did about 600-750k ppd. I'm sure Gorgon has his 2060 upto 1.2m ppd.

Personally, I would average it out amongst buy it now prices for used cards, anything lower is obviously better, but more finicky

Huh, that's weird since Vegas are usually really good at compute stuff. Is it just the workload folding pushes isn't optimized well for Vega?

Basically, I think it got better after, but PPD/W was still just so much better with 1080s and 1080tis. 

 

I don't think a Vega 64 has surpassed 1m PPD. 1080tis get 1.1-1.3m using only 2/3 the power worst case scenario.

So Pascal/Turing is the better option for pure folding tasks. Huh.

B-but I have this 1600W T2 sitting around with no worthy hardware to feed, I don't think the 1660 Ti and 1050 Ti it feeds rn push it much...

True, but everybody wants a 1080Ti. And from what I have seen, at least here, 1080Ti = 2060 Super in price and PPD but 2060 has a warranty and uses less powe

I wasn't recommending the card, just using it as examples as I have run all three cards, Vega in the past and 1080s and a 1080ti now

Honestly, if I had the money and PSU capacity, I would run some 64’s. Electricity is only 11.6 cents KWh.

I've personally been acquiring 1070ti's since they're cheaper than 2060's and get around 875k PPD. Though I'm not sure the power consumption differences between the two (which is a factor since I pay for the electricity usage)

Pascal has never been that power hungry so it shouldn't be too big of a difference. Under gaming load (highest power draw of the charts I saw from Tom's Hardware) the 2060 pulls nearly 166W:

 

1070 Ti pulls up to 180, almost 181W: 

So like a 15-20W difference max, will that impact electricity costs much?

Nah I pay like 10 cents per kwh. ITNOS in it's old configuration costs me $15/month to operate. But I saved anywhere from $60-100 per card over buying used 2060's.

Noice! Can you get blower 1070 Tis for a reasonable price or are they rarer? I can stack up to 4 GPUs on my X58 mobos (7 on my biggboye ones if they were single slot cards, lol), but they're so close together that blowers would be a much better option for actually keeping the GPUs reasonably cool.

I saw blower GPU's for $230 on Hardware swap, but I managed to snag a FTW2 for a bit more, and a Zotac Mini for about the same.

Yee, my X99 mobo would support 4 GPUs if I got a 5930K or above (5820K doesn't have the PCIe lanes needed), my X58 Classified 4-Way SLI and Classified SR-2 both have 7 PCIe 2.0 slots, IIRC they'll run at x8 if I populate them all, I forget if I can do x16 for 4 or not.

I have a 5960x in mine.

 

I have a x79 xeon, e51920 v2 here too if I ever need another 4x GPU machine.

I've never had the pleasure of owning any X79 hardware . Just X58 and X99 as far as HEDT setups. And mmmm 5960X, that's on my list of upgrades for the main rig.
