GOG announces the last video games client you'll ever need (consoles + PC)

Andreas Lilja

I kinda like the idea, but

I like gog because I dont have to be logged in / online to play games.

I worry about the extra overhead  when my system struggles with steams overhead.

best thing Gog could do for me would be to introduce gift cards (like steam did)

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

ram : 16Gig Corsair Vengeance 3600mhz

Best client is no client.

Still, if this is the Trillian of gaming clients, it's an improvement nonetheless.

Best client is GOG Galaxy. Because it's not mandatory. You can use it or you can opt not to use it. You miss some features like Cloud Saves and stuff, but that's about it. I personally like it for convenience, but it's always nice knowing you have option to download all the installers and play games even without any internet or clients/launchers. Besides, Galaxy just works really well and isn't a clusterfuck mess like Steam kinda became.

sounds a lot like xfire

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

it promises to combine all of your games, online friends, and other data in one place.

Hasn't anyone learned anything from all those data breaches lately?  Having everything in one place is a BAD idea.

It's better than just accepting it. Epic store is utter shit.

I don't think so: these boycotted games always end up selling more and better than if there was no controversy surrounding them at all, most recent case being the Metro game on Epic made a fucking killing on sales compared to the previous title.

The idea that individual choice matters in the grand scheme of things is just not accurate at all and this is specially true for such vocal complainers as gamers that end up being weak and ineffective and proving that the controversy only gives shitty publishers more visibility and almost no negative repercussions.

A lot of that is that there is so many years ago since Last light came out, and over the years more have gotten last light post launch. There was also much more advertising on it than what I can remember was on Last light. There are very many factors at play.

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.
It matters that you don't just give up.”
