The SD Association has announced a new standard called microSD Express, with support for both PCIe and the NVMe protocol to improve overall device performance. Devices that use the standard will be capable of up to 985MB/s transfer rates, courtesy of a single lane of PCIe 3.1 support.

The new drives will remain backward-compatible with older cards — you’ll be able to read and use older microSD cards in microSD Express slots and microSD Express cards will still work in older readers.

I look forward to "running Windows on an SD card pt 2"

its single lane tho, so its basically sata. What I want to see is something like SATA 10Gb/s or 12Gb/s or ideally 15Gb/s (like sata express), basically it just has a extra long connector (mabye 50% wide and has a faster signalling rate), becuase even USB, which is a smaller connector can transmit 10Gb/s.
