GTX 1050 2 GB vs. R9 280x

Just for my own curiosity. Please leave suggestions for other graphics cards that you recommend to upgrade to in the future!

The 280x is way more powerful than a 1050. For reference, the 290x is comparable to a 1060 6GB, and the 280x is basically one tier down from that, so its performance should be close to a 1060 3gb.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

 

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

 

How many watts do I need? ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explained, group reg is bad

What resolution do you plan on playing at, and what graphic settings ?  The 280x wipes the floor against a 1050 crummy 2GB card ya know.

Wow, I did some research and had no idea. I have a guy locally selling one for $80 and thought about picking it up over my 1050

You can definetly play @ 1080p with graphics set to medium to high, and some tweakage in the nv panel.  Youll net 60fps.

Right now its 720p until I get my new monitor. I am just trying to squeeze some performance out of my unit

See that would be perfect. I am not a serious gamer. Just want a decent framerate

My 7950 (aka 280) is pretty comparable to my 1050Ti even, so I would absolutely choose the 280x.
