just stick it on eBay for 150 best offer free shipping it should go in a few weeks or less. the 1tb hd is easily $50 of it

You can buy a 1tb hard drive for like 40 bucks new. Why would anyone want a used hard drive? Out of all of the things in an old pc a hard drive is the one that I would honestly just toss because an old hard drive is a failure just waiting to happen.

in that kind of system its unlikely it was ever pushed such as data HD mining. its got some years left in it. plus RAID or NAS applications if it fails just replace no biggie.

Hard drives are mechanical and can fail due to various factors outside of reads and wrights. I would not use a used Hard drive especially of that age. I can get a new 1tb for dirt cheap so no reason to buy a used one.

RAID does not work like that, you have to do a offline rebuild.  NAS targeted filesystems can though.

im just stating if you used until death. It won't be a massive headache or loss of data in either configuration. no need to add to the massive E-waste issue.

 

for myself im using a 4 tb HD that reports 47 bad sectors. i know its degrading but have it in raid 10. and it works.
