vlado88 reacted to Prodigy_Smit in new build thoughts
Most of the build is fine just a few things:
I would get a nhu12s instead of the d15 since that CPU does not need that much cooling.
You could get a cheaper b550 board to save money such as MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK or the MSI B550-A PRO
Finally you should get a 3600 cl16 kit as suggested by @mahyar

vlado88 reacted to Owndblood in Project Chernobyl
Hello there! I'm rather new into the case modding world but I feel I've been progressing quickly.
I've always been very interested in computers and as many others, more interested in the hardware and how a computer works more than the games that you can play.
I decided to make my own case mod, at first I did not have a name for it so it went under a build name called Project Blue Dream 2.0, but as the build progressed I started getting clearer visions of how I want the PC to look like when I was done.
The name that I decided on was Project Chernobyl, I'll tell you more about how I thought of the name later in the build log.
Well, Who am I?
My name is August Lindgren and I'm a soon to be 17 year old student, on my spare time I do quite a variety of things, I like to ride snowmobiles, dirtbikes, workout, play on my PC but mostly, build PCs. I started this project because I really wanted to achieve something, something good!
I apologize in advance for the image quality during the build but I assure you there will be better photos for my later builds!
now that you know who I am, let's get started with the build log!
The current specifications in the system are:
CPU - AMD fx-8320 ( 20x * 220Mhz @ 1.365V = 4.4GHz)
MOBO - Sabertooth 990fx R 2.0
RAM - Kingston HyperX 16GB 1600MHz
GPU - R9 270x Vapor-x
GPU2 - R9 270x Vapor-x
PSU - Corsair HX 1000i
HDD - 1x WD green 1tb
SSD - Kingston v300 128 GB
SPU - Xonar Phoebus Solo
here are some pictures of what the computer used to look like before I got started.
And here is my first vision of what I wanted the build to look like.
These renders were created in Google Sketchup 2015 and rendered in Visualizer.
So I got to work!
List of things to be done
Strip the case of all its panels and hardware
Get the fanrings painted yellow
Paint the front bezel yellow
remove heatsinks from RAM and Motherboard for respraying
I started prying of the heatsinks from the RAM sticks for repainting.
This is the front bezel, fan rings and the ram sticks painted.
I also painted the motherboard heatsink but I forgot to take a proper photo of it.
Massive pile of hardware here
these are the new fans that will be going into the system, also with yellow painted fan rings instead of the dull blue ones.
at first I thought this was just going to be a small little project but it ended up being so much more than just that.
as the project went on I got more and more ideas for it and started over again, and again, and again..
here are some pictures from after the first mod was done.
doing some test fitting.
First update!
I consider my first goals with this mod to be complete but I want to do a lot more.
I've just finished ordering a custom loop so I'm very excited about getting started.
to be honest I ordered quite a bit of stuff.. Here's a list!
EK-Coolstream PE 360
EK-CSQ 10/16mm G 1/4 Black
EK-Supreme LTX AMD Acetal CSQ
Laing DDC 12v
XSPC Reservoir
Primochill LRT Crystal clear 10/16
Feser one UV Yellow
Phobya UV Flexlight
Phobya TwinLED UV
Phobya Y cable 3 pin to 4x 3 pin
Alphacool universal pump mount
A third Acer G246hl 24" 1080p
AX 4200 Triple Monitor Stand
A1 Saga XXL Mousepad
I recieved some surprise income and decided to purchase all the things I've been wanting to get.
as most of my friends know I'm rather of an OCD case when it comes to cable management, I'm extremely particulour about how I want my cables to sit and look like, so redoing my actual setup is started to happen on a regular basis.
more mods on the way!
Going to go buy some acrylic sheets that will act as both a PSU cover, Midplate and some GPU backplates.
Second update!
All the acrylic is purchased and is sitting next to me, I also bought some primer and a few cans of black color.
as always, there are some cardboard models of how the acrylic will sit..
Because why not, right?
I measured out the acrylic and cut them to size, also got started on bending the sheet for the PSU cover.
I was walking around the house when I noticed an old external 2.5" drive, so I dismantled it and made a little SSD case for it!
Here are the acrylic sheets all done and painted.
Doing some test fits before fastening them properly
Third Update!
Unfortunately there has been some delays regarding the custom loop, I'm sorry to have kept you guys waiting!
Here are some pictures of the first layout.
Good news! no leaks, woohoo.
I found it extremely hard to actually bleed the loop with the tiny reservoir mounted in the bottom so for the bleeding part I placed it ontop of the case instead, found that was much easier!
I must say I am a bit disapointed on the fluid, but really depends on the lighting and from which direction you're looking at it.
I managed to get some pretty good shots of the loop while bleeding.
Here's a picture of the tiny reservoir I was talking about.
here is a perfect example of what I meant with the fluid switching colors!
it looks a lot more green in some places.
So I ordered some sleeving guys! I really thought the blue cables would suit better in the build but they appeared not to.
I ordered some yellow, black and gray sleeving, Which I found suits the build a lot better.
there's happen a few things now actually, I've done quite a lot of things.
Sleeved all the cables.
Mounted "Biohazard" fangrills, more coming soon!
Got the text "Chernobyl" printed on the side of the PSU cover and on the front panel.
Metal Biohazard logo on the front panel
and also got some white E22 decals on the fans, I really don't like the look of the corsair logos on the fans and especially not when they are spinning as they are not centered..
Pictures under the sleeving process! Jesus it makes your fingers hurt.
First wire done!
I actually ended up redoing the sata cables as I didn't like the look of all yellow.
I couldn't post the final pictures directly because I felt that I had to get a better camera for it as my one really isn't doing this build justice.
And here we go! I called my cousin who works with photography and she was able to bring her Canon EOS 7D Mark II over and help me get some really good photos!
Here are the final pictures guys, the moment we've all been waiting for!
Now, you might be wondering how I came up with the name Chernobyl?
Yes, it's actually a really simple story, I've always been interested in nuclear plants and especially Chernobyl, I don't know what it is but it just interests me.
and late one night while I was sitting just glaring at my computer I got the feeling of a nuclear plant looking at the fluid going through the tubing, that typical "green-ish" look.
in my opinion sort of looks radioactive, so I decided to call the computer Chernobyl!
Now before you say anything.
Yes, I know the reservoir is way too small and I am planning to change it as soon as money allows me to do so.
I will be moving on to a cylinder reservoir instead and also I will be changing out the fluid to Mayhems Pastel yellow at some point.
but that is for another time.
I really appreciate all you guys for reading this log and giving me all the feedback, it has really helped to help me make it through the project!
Thank you.
August Lindgren

vlado88 got a reaction from Powesedor (Pedro Pereira) in BEST GTX 970
From what I've seen the G1 comes clocked a bit higher, overclocks a bit better, and maybe has a bit lower temps under load.
The G1 would look better in that case, but it won't match the red on the mobo...
The difference is minor so don't overthink it.

Update No.13
My lucky number, and final update!
Hello my friends!
In this update, I am proud to present to you the posting of the Redefine project, and the final photoshoot of this beastly machine. I am very happy and sad to see this project complete as I have had a blast working with this chassis, all the products and various materials. I cannot say that everything went problem free though as I had some driver issues and software problems to deal with which took 3 days of my life, wasted on trying to get this system up and running.
I am happy to report that everything is now working perfectly, and I have installed Windows 10 Preview and played a few rounds of Battlefield Hardline.! BTW if anyone wants to have a match on BF4 or BFH please add me at metallicacid_01
But before I get on with the image onslaught, I would like to take this moment to thank my sponsors who have giving their time and products to make this project come to life. Without your support, I would not be able to create these projects that I love to create! Thank you to:
Inet
Corsair
ASUS
Ultimate Personal Computer
Dremel
So firstly I want to show you some awesome custom engraving made by the owner of this project, Jens. He is magical
Some of the cable routing from behind to the front:
White painted Corsair Dominator Platinum RAM installed:
Redefined H100i hotwired to another PSU as I didn't have a second SATA power cable handy.. And the machine posting:
Jens working on some more engravings, and a Corsair badge be made:
Final images taken on location where I work, and modded:
Final images at home in the kitchen
I really hope that you all have enjoyed this projects' build log, and the finished resulting PC. It has been a pleasure working on the chassis, and having all of you joining me once again in creating another custom project!
For those of you wanting to know what is next, I have a few projects in the works, and hope to start with a personal HTPC project right away. Once I have some more confirmed information, I will set up a build log and inform you all where you can find me
That is it for now, and thank you for following. I hope to see you again in the next project!!
Kind regards,
Justin "MetallicAcid" Ohlsen

I really don't get the point of this card.
1. The 970 has a better bang for the buck.
2. There are better cards from AMD for the same price point.
3. Not worth the upgrade from 700 series.
4. 2GB of RAM...not exactly future proof. There are already some AAA games that need 3GB to run at max settings at 1080p.
I'd buy it only for a quiet media PC running a 4k tv.

vlado88 reacted to Aniallation in NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 STRIX from ASUS
It's meant to be competition for the newer 285 that has 2GB, not the older 7950/7970 that were rebranded into 280/280X.
Also for 4K HTPC, Intel HD Graphics will do the job for that, don't need a $200+ GPU.

vlado88 got a reaction from destroyer8769 in Weird whining noise coming from pc
Its a stock fan, right? They are mostly bad, you can bet it will be the first thing in a pc to go bad... If you want to make sure, just unplug the other fans or turn them off in the bios, and run a cpu stress test to see if the cpu fan will start making the noise.
The cs test is mostly for graphic cards, it wont put much "stress" on your cpu

vlado88 reacted to Jeroen1322 in Thank you, guys! You have changed everyting!
Hi!
Thank you guys so much! I'm a member for almost 2 years now and this forum has thought me so, so much!
I have set up my own little web-design/development business to make a little money and it has grown a shit ton and i love it!
I have 2 websites due this month and 2 next month and i'm under pressure but i can work better under pressure! I have almost completely stopped playing games and being more productive. I've bought books about developing and for some reason i read trough a 400+ page book in 2 weeks (what is amazing because i'm as dyslectic as a door) and i understood everything. I love feeling productive and making people happy with taking the tech frustration of their shoulders. People in my town also know that i fix computers/laptops ect so i have to repair some here and there and i'm really getting my name out there. If it keeps continuing this way i'll have an income of around ~€300 a month! What is freaking crazy! I have found something i am good at and fucking love doing! (for the most part). When i have school, the time of leaving for the bus and comming back is 11 hours and every change i get i make myself productive, like making a page while riding the bus or answer an email from a client.
And i coudln't have done this without this forum! Really! You guys (a few one in particular) have helped me soooo much!
Taking the time to respond to my fucking dumb and obvious questions and even going the extra mile for me! I seriously can't thank you guys enough!
I remember 2 years ago i thought Java and JavaScript where the same and i replied to a post and you guys weren't dicks about it but instead linked me to resources to learn the differences!
Even when it was not about developing and i needed to air some thoughts you guys where really supportive and when i'm reading back my old post i cringe so hard!
I fucking love this forum!

That did it. THANK YOU!
I feel kinda stupid for overlooking this...and it makes sense why the free space went down after uninstalling, there were 40GB of restore point. Although I don't get why it used so much space by default, or why non of the programs I used detected it.
Anyway thanks again to all for the help.
Yea system restore, you had it right too.
-
vlado88 reacted to fnixha in Missing space on SSD
at the first screenshot i didnt see "System Volume Information" and at the second screenshot i saw that "System Volume Information" folder is 0 bytes and thats not possible for a windows system drive then it means its not reading disk usage for that folder at all. System Volume Information contains registry keys and windows system restore backups so if registry keys doesnt take more than (i would say 100mb) then its windows system restore taking that space?!

The only thing I can think off :
Go to system properties , system protection, click on your drive, configure , turn off system protection , and see how much is freed.
Also type in search : %temp% check how much is there.
Do you have more than one User ?
Good luck

Awesome build man, love it.
If there is one thing I don't like is the monitor/GPU combo, 2x 980s seem like too big of a overkill for single 1440p 60Hz screen.
