marbled got a reaction from 8-Bit Ninja in Disable RGB on Rival 3 without software?
Cool thanks, I had assumed that it would only apply to a particular laptop but looks like you're right and the setting will carry across, appreciate the reply.

marbled got a reaction from Healyz in Black Friday components list - any thoughts?
Hey thanks, I'll take a look at those keyboard options. I'm not too worried about storage as that's something I can add down the road as needed but if I can free up a bit of cash for a better PSU, that would be a good bit of future proofing for sure.

marbled reacted to Deli in 75hz vs 144hz for SP gaming
From 60/75GHz to 144 is a huge difference in term of smoothness. Even if you don't play E-sport games. I strongly recommend 144Hz monitor especially you have the hardware to drive it.

marbled got a reaction from BTGbullseye in The RTX 3000 FAQ - Check this first!
I love this list - one I'd add (as it's the one I find myself fighting the urge to ask/google every other day) is "When will the 3060/3050 be released/what willl they cost/what will their performance be?" To which the answer is of course that Nvidia haven't actually announced these cards so no one knows (that doesn't stop me planning a build around a hypothetical 3060 though!)

marbled reacted to minibois in Cheapest decent 1TB SSD?
If we skip the drives with no DRAM, the Kingston A2000 is still one of the cheaper 1TB drives and it's quite good too.
I would recommend it, should the budget be able to allow it.

marbled got a reaction from Oswin in Can I improve this current-gen budget gaming build?
Oh interesting, the 3600MHz RAM I'd seen was all much more expense so thanks for flagging that one!

marbled reacted to Mateyyy in Can I improve this current-gen budget gaming build?
That looks solid. I'd probably only get a nicer case, but other than that, those components should work really well together.
Something like a Phanteks P400A looks clean, should be easy to build in and has very good airflow, and comes in at 60 quid at the moment:
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/3RJmP6/phanteks-eclipse-p400a-atx-mid-tower-case-ph-ec400atg_bk
You could also get away with no extra fans with this case, but if it fits into the budget, you could toss a 120mm fan in there to run as a rear exhaust, since the P400A comes with two 120mm intakes in the front by default.
I'd look for a Noctua NF-S12A chromax.black, NF-F12 chromax.black, be quiet! Silent Wings 3 or even a cheaper Arctic P12 which is still quite good for the price.

if you would still want to consider a 5600xt just make sure it can be updated to the new 14 Gbps Bios

Oh wow good to know as that's at the same price point as the 5600XT, thanks.

marbled got a reaction from Mateyyy in WD Blue NVME vs SSD
Thanks for the explanation - just watched the Linus video about DRAM so now understand the difference. I'll swap out the SN550 for the A2000 and enjoy the £10 difference!
Should probably get back to work now... working from home has not necessarily improved my productivity.

Get the A2000 that @Oswin linked. It's cheaper and better than the SN550, and totally worth the extra 5 quid of the SATA WD Blue.

Doh I didn't note the F variant, my apologies but yes if that's the price diff get the board with more features

Ah I think I see what's happened - I had selected the B450M Pro4-f motherboard which has fewer fan headers. However, the price difference is only about £6 and that's barely more than a fan splitter would cost me so I'll just switch to the B450M Pro4 and connect the fans directly.

Not a problem at all:
I only have hands on experience with Arctic P and F series, not their silent series. As for the F series vs P series sound...Arctic measures their sound in Sone, which is best described as "how comfortable to the human ears is that sound" - I have 14 running next to me (two towers) when Im at home - its a mild low tone that is not loud or bothersome at all. I can just barely tell the PCs are on (running full blast as well). Most motherboards can fan control over DC so PWM is great, but as long as you don't drive the fan below the lowest voltage to operator DC (3 pin, vs 4 pin PWM) which is typically 40-50% speed min before it just wont power on. I have no real comment on that as I don't care if a fan is PWM or DC anymore
The MX 330 pre installed rear fan I actually think is a fine fan. I don't think its branded but it was good enough I slapped 120mm AIO on it and the temps were no different then a CoolerMaster Static Pressure fan that came with the AIO.
I always elect to fill all fan slots, so I can run them slower, but achieve great airflow vs sound - or run them full tilt for best thermals. I have to say, I would prefer 2 front intake, 2 top exhaust, 1 rear exhaust on these cases, and if you get the side panel version with a fan placement - you can run up to 200mm fan here which I recommend as well (just note, if you use a 120mm AIO at rear exhaust it blocks the use of a 200mm fan - but can still fit a 140mm or lower)
Personally I don't buy arctic fans in singles, I only get the value packs. Where I am at its typically 5 Arctic P12's for $27 shipped when the price is right (US based, between Ebay, Amazon, or Newegg if I bide my time I can get it at that price point).
From my understanding of what I have used - I have standard P12's, not silent, and they are not loud lol. I describe them as a pleasant sound

marbled got a reaction from Jason 57 in Fractal Design Focus G or Cougar MX330?
Yeah sadly it looks like the MX330-X isn't available in the UK at the moment but will keep an eye on it. I think I'll plan to either buy the MX330 with two extra fans, or the Focus G with one extra fan, and go for whichever is cheaper!
Thanks for the input re the cases though, that's good to know.

B550-A Pro
If that's too expensive, B550M Aorus Pro, though you'll want some direct airflow on the VRMs if you want to run a 3950X with this board.
Asrock boards tend to have bad memory compatibility in general, not just with G.Skill.

ASRock B450 Pro 4 series or maybe the B550 version of same board. IMO but for the love of God do not pair it with RAM from G.Skill!!!

Cool thanks for the help - I'll leave the pro 4f in place then and will see whether ASRock has announced support for zen 3 by the time I'm looking to buy.

Absolutely avoid this dumpster fire.
25a crappy board. The pro 4f is superior in every way really. And is not a bad deal. And in addition to the pro 4f. All the boards I listed above are decent.

Thanks I'll take a look! I wouldn't have thought that picking a keyboard would be the hardest part of building a new pc but everything else is pretty straightforward whereas keyboards are clearly so subjective...
