I'm sure a lot did too, who is going to recommend only expensive X570 for CPU that make zero sense to pair with them. That's why B550 being delayed as long as it was is such a problem, because that is also a dependent lead time on figuring out 400 series support. These delays have flow on problems.

Yes it does, it makes all the difference. It was why we are getting this information now not earlier.

    Edit:
How much earlier, name a month. Exactly how much sooner do you think all factors, all efforts, everything was done to sort out and make this decision? What are you basing this off of? That they had all the time in the world to concurrently work on the B550 issues and sort out 400 series support and were not actually doing that anyway. I'll accept a couple of month sooner, any longer than that and you're getting in to very strong amounts unfounded speculation.

B550 in August-November means many months sooner notification of 400 series support, that is speculation but not exactly unfounded.

Hardware unboxed asked the question specifically, and AMD seem to have replied that all future AGESA code for Zen3 will not support anything but 5xx series motherboards, this doesent seem to be like in the past when vendors have added support for A320 boards, but more like when AMD updated the AGESA to lock out pcie 4 on X470 boards, this is very dissapointing especially when compounded with their delayed B550 motherboards, i myself purchased a 3600 and B450 higher end board on launch because i didnt want to pay more for my motherboard than the processor was planning a zen3/ampere upgrade early next year but yeah..... looks like AMD has bowed down to the motherboard manufacturers

I really want to see if MSI will change that. It would be even worse for them to keep selling MAX mobos knowing that they are making false advertisement

So AMD actually market that Gen3 will be available on 2020 AM4 motherboards, people buy them then AMD reneg on that and your response is to be facetious about it and  continue to throw shit at Intel?

Yeah i get that, most of my gripe is with the fact they delayed thier B550 boards so long, people such as myself who purchased a B450 board out of neccesity (spending £200+ on a motherboard to be paired with a £190 CPU at launch) feel pretty miffed at the situation, id have bought a B550 board when i bought my 3600 on launch, had they been available this also means the 5xx boards are guaranteed to be a dead end also, because likely ZEN4 with DDR5 will be likely moving to AM5, so not great tbh

This about sums up why im pissed off about it too, lets be honest everyone assumed that at least the 4xx boards would be good until AMD switched over to DDR5 or a new socket.

i get what youre saying, but when most people whom for buying x570 didnt make sense, ie buying a 3600 which is the strongest contender in thier lineup for gaming value and performance, you had to go b450 or x470 because they didnt release a b550 to go with, now to throw support out the window for those boards is a bit of a shitty move imo

yeah this is the thing, i built my wife an office pc and managed to pickup an MSI A320 max board which supported a 3rd gen for super cheap £41 and it works great, its one of the selling points of AMD platform that you dont need to spend £££££ on a motherboard unless youre planning maybe a ryzen 9 build and you get limited by VRM output

looks like hardware unboxed asked the specific question, i hold out hope the same as everyone else, but its pretty scummy, as i said i was hoping to upgrade to a 4000 series cpu on my B450 gaming pro carbon AC early next year with Ampere GPU to play VR really well

except there really isnt any reason to cut off the 4xx/3xx boards, 5xx will be the last AM4 boards, that would have been "the perfect time" to call it quits and cut support, not when youve just forced anyone to use the older revision chipset because they didnt release a B550 on zen2 launch, which made it impractical to purchase £200 mobo (even if you could find one) for a £190 cpu, and at the time it was thought that those boards would be compatible until the end of the AM4 socket support, which Zen3 is...... this is AMD making a hard cut because theyre caving into thier board partners to force everyones hand on buying B550 or X570 boards because they can, and people wont mind because likely Zen3 will put AMD very much on top of the competition and not just "close" like they are with Zen2
