You'll probably have to either get a repeater/extender, or run network cable out to an access point.

You could also try powerline networking. Essentially using your existing power lines as network. I haven't ever used it, but it may be an option for you.

In my experience, the X570 can be had for only a few dollars more then a B550.

I've got the pro 4 version of the board listed above, since I didn't need wifi. Its been rock solid.

If you're going 5000 series make sure whatever you pick will support that, either out of the box, or with an update.

FAHEYGF87 got a reaction from Corin_Wright in Which is the weakest part of my rig? ...and how bad is it?
Its always better to have a even pairs of memory, so (2) 8gb sticks or (4) 8gb sticks. That 3rd stick probably isn't doing much to improve performance unless you have like 50 chrome tabs open at once and just need to extra capacity. 2133mhz is glacially slow, especially for a newer ryzen cpu, they perform better with faster memory. If I had to guess you'd probably see a marked increase in performance if you went from 24gb of 2133 to 16gb of 3200.

That ram setup does not match the CPU. Also, who has 24gb? Do you have 3 8gb sticks? You'd probably be better off with 16gb at 3200-3600.

I usually reccommend a quality 850 watt psu for a 3080 for 100 guarantee that there won't be a power off due to transient spikes.
Something like this would be a good option

Run my 3090 with an evga 850. Only see 550 from the wall. Gpu isn’t fully utilized with the cpu being subpar.

FAHEYGF87 got a reaction from Goldilock in Logitech G512 GX blue review
I don't normally do these amatuer reviews, but I'm pretty happy with my most recent purchase, so I thought i'd share.

For the past 4 years, i've been using a Logitech G105 for my office computer keyboard. My only complaint with that board, was a sticking left shift key(even after cleaning), other then that it was a perfectly fine, normal keyboard.

About 6 months ago, I stumbled upon some reviews of mechanical keyboards. Initially, I couldn't tell what all the fuss was about, but I decided to get it a try. I ordered the G512 Carbon directly from Logitech on 8/24 and picked it up from the post office today. I went with the 512 because of the reviews online, the relatively minimalist, not totally gamery appearance(office usage), and the middle of the road price of $100.

Clicky clicky is oh so satisfying to type quickly on, compared to the mush of the G105
    Dark minimalism
Lots of RGB if you're into that sort of thing. I just set it to static blue to match my g302 mouse.
    USB port
Heft. It feels reassuringly well built and not lightweight.

Clicky clicky might get annoying to coworkers on quiet days.
USB port isn't the easiest to access in my configuration, and is only 2.0.
I have not found a way to sync the lighting effects between my G512 and G302 in the Logitech software, they have to be done separately, which is a bummer since I like the breathing effect. Having them both breath at slightly different rates looks super dumb.

I think it looks great, feels good, and is satisfying to type on. I'm happy with it.

I may update this review after I play a few games on it, but I can't imagine that would tarnish how I already feel about it.

Got an EVGA 3060 a few weeks ago from a Shuffle.  Entered on a whim (I wasn't entering every time, but it was maybe my 3rd or 4th time) and was stunned when I got the acceptance email.

Also note that this hyper m.2 card requires the motherboard to support PCIe bifurcation, which is supported by ASUS boards marked as compatible but not every manufactuer enables that on ATX boards.

That board seems to support it.

I have not seen 5000 series APUs in desktop format but you can get the 4000 APUs from some vendors. They are a bit slower then their non APU counterpart but perfect for a file server or something that does not need that much graphics performance.

FAHEYGF87 reacted to kevin_m in Looking for recommendations - 8+ port 10gb switch
I like the mikrotik switches if you are looking for something relatively basic and low cost. Would also consider using fiber over copper for 10gb (if this is possible), I have personally experienced too many issues reliably obtaining 10gb with around 20 meter cat6 (not cat6a) when cables are too close together; link speed tends to drop to 5gb. The industry is kind of in a weird state right now with copper (twisted pair) and 10gb, the power and cabling requirements can sometimes be constraints. Don't forget to look at your voip phones, not sure if you using PoE or are bridging a shared network cable to the desktop with them, most do not support 10gb or fiber.

I do not think 10gb is overkill if you are looking at upgrades, especially if you are transferring GBs of traffic at any point in time.

This would be the low cost fiber option(s):

I am kind of curious what other opinions are on new offices looking at faster than 1gb speeds for desktops and if they are considering fiber or staying with copper. I thought the LTT office was using 10gb copper without any problems.

FAHEYGF87 reacted to tikker in How can I fix my room? Subwoofer position?
Room acoustics can have an effect. You can try doing a sub crawl: https://www.audioholics.com/home-theater-connection/crawling-for-bass-subwoofer-placement

From Dolby spec the surrounds are at a less than ideal place, but you have to work with what you've got. The fronts are actually pretty much bang on considering distance from the sofa and tv.

You can also try running the Audyssey room correction to see if that improves your overall sound.

FAHEYGF87 got a reaction from Jason 57 in New basic HTPC
This build will be a quasi-"desk pc" that will replace my aging HTPC. The case will be the cabinet, that will also house my Nintendo Switch and my Xbox one.

    Parts:

    MOBO: MSI B550M PRO-VDH Wifi
    CPU: R5 3400G with Noctual NH-L9a
    RAM: 16gb Crucial Ballistix 3200
    PSU: Corsair CX 550w
    DRIVES: Samsung 970 evo plus (1tb) Boot, I don't remember 2tb, I don't remember 3tb, seagate ironwolf 4tb(temporary....borrowed from work)
    FANS: 2-Noctua 140mm intakes

I lost the battle with my wife to have the counter top go all the way from wall to wall. In the last picture, the slabs are just sitting on top of the cabinets. I still need to sand, stain and secure them to the cabinets.

After the top is done, I need to make a shelf, that will be just below where the I/O and the fans are, that will be where the center speaker/dish receiver and my stereo receiver, will live.

No I wouldn't.  Simply because even the TR 2990wx I get to use, was replaced by a R9 3950x for productivity.  Generationally things just get better.  The 2990wx is now a server instead.
