Posted July 28, 2022 I'm looking to upgrade from a 3060 to a 3080(non Ti), I'm sure my current 550w isn't going to be enough, but how much do I really need? Current Specs: 3060(Non Ti) 2600x(OC'd to 4.0) Noctua NH D15 16gb 3600 (1) M.2 SSD (1) 200mm case fan (4) 140mm case fans
 Posted July 28, 2022 I usually reccommend a quality 850 watt psu for a 3080 for 100 guarantee that there won't be a power off due to transient spikes. Something like this would be a good option https://pcpartpicker.com/product/WxZzK8/msi-mpg-a-gf-850-w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-mpg-a850gf
 Maybe I can keep my 550w for a while and upgrade later.

Doubt a 550 has the amperage needed on the rail to support the card at anything more than idle. Posted July 28, 2022 In terms of minimum, I'd say a quality 850W that can handle the spikes properly. That said, I would probably at least get a 1000W just so you are in the higher part of the efficiency curve more during load + having a bit more wiggle room. But you don't have to do that. The range is from 320 to 400 watts stock so what card you pick may influence your PSU choice. I like these videos for comparing cards. I picked 1000 since I had issues with my 2080 tis and 850 PSUs. Using 1000 watt PSUs fixed the problem. I am sure that it was something to do with the motherboard, GPU combination but it was cheaper to replace the PSU than the other parts.
