FALC0N got a reaction from OneOfYas in [EOL] PSU Tier List rev. 14.8
I am fully aware of where this nonsense started and who started it.   The three main issues are:

    1)   A 268mv spike occurring at a 150 watt overload is NOT an issue.

    2)   I have yet to see that spike replicated in any  other test.  So even if it was an issue, it hasn't been replicated.

    3)   That someone was willing to hunt through foreign languages sites to cherry pick negative information should have been a clue that maybe he wasn't entirely impartial in his analysis.   Your source has serious anti-Seasonic bias in my opinion.

I agree with Falcon here...  why would you expect ripple to stay below 120mV when you're forcing the power supply to 150w above its advertised output?
Do you blame a CPU a memory stick for causing crashes or errors or do you call it faulty if it's not stable if you overclock it above its advertised frequencies?
It's like calling a 3200 Mhz memory stick faulty because you can't run it at 4000 Mhz... ridiculous.

Also worth noting it's a 750w psu tested, and they're getting that result when pulling 900w from 12v alone. A regular computer would have around 30-50w on 3.3v and 5v, so you'd have to pull at least around 925w to get this.
A few cm above that result, they're showing 50mV ripple at 888w on 12v alone.

It's ridiculous, I'd understand if we talk about 5% above its output voltage, just in case some idiot installs 2 2080tis and overclocks them and may have very short bursts (like 5-10ms peaks) of power draw over 750w of power consumption.

If Seasonic recognized this as an issue, good for them.... but I wouldn't classify this as fault.

PSU tier list is a mess.  It's a good example of why you shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet. The G3 is very good power supply.

First I believe you need to understand what you are writing. A good idea doesn't mean a good execution.

It's exactly the opposite. If you focus on two points and make those two points much more important then everything else you're being subjective.

    update:
Installed the GPU and PSU on a much older computer at work (Intel i5 3470), used AMD auto detect to run drivers.
Blender has baked for 2 hours and hasn't crashed. 4K youtube worked fine (but cpu ran at 100%).
Rendered 1440p utrawide images (each frame about 4s), max recorded power draw around 190w and each frame punched the psu from about 6w to 190w according to GPU-z logs.

I'm beginning to think I have too many wrong parts with wrong drivers (first gen motherboard, second gen ryzen cpu, barely compatible G.skill RGB memory and a super picky Vega graphics card)
-sigh- I'll go fight it some more after work.

But at least I know the G550M is able to handle this like a champ!
    so... thread resolved I guess.

Actually, Mask has already contributed in a meaningful fashion.

For example. A couple weeks back a kid was about to waste his money replacing his perfectly functioning Seasonic Focus because it was in Tier D.  Before he did so, he stumbled across one of Masks earlier criticisms of the list and realized that something was rotten in the state of Denmark.  He started asking deeper questions and we convinced him that the list was bunk, saving him $100.

Also, this forum is short on knowledgeable, experienced members, and long on group think.  Someone who is both knowledgeable and capable of drawing his own opinions should we welcomed.

Because a tier list like this never works, it has been proven again and again. I've seen more than 10 and all were crap. The next list tier list will just prove my point.

If you don't see it, then you shouldn't publish the next Tier list. Because it's gonna be yet another crappy list. Just learn the basics first.

It's a very simple calculation to find out, it's not rocket science. In general, the benefit in reduced electricity cost is insignificant compared to the difference in purchase price. Just buy whatever PSU performs well and is quiet, and you'll be fine.

FALC0N got a reaction from AlexBm in Is a 620W PSU enough for a RX5700 XT?
There are trade offs for every unit in the budget category.  If you want the whole package, you have to pay more.

The strengths of the S12II are great build quality, heat tolerance, reliability history and ripple suppression.  It basically has a reputation for being semi-indestructible and it earned that reputation powering some pretty crazy setups over the years.  That's why it's still tops on my budget list.  You can throw just about anything at it and it will hold up really well.  But I do get why some like the newer units.

IMO you'll be fine. The RX5700 XT has a TDP of 225W and the 2600X has a TDP of 95W. That leaves 300W for the rest of the system. More than enough.

The Vega 56 puts a lot of pressure on the PSU, but I wouldn't assume it is a psu issue just yet.  My first though reading your post was driver issues. Crashing while uploading a Youtube video didn't sound like a PSU issue to me.

Not a lot of really exciting deals out there at the moment on PSU's.   It's either go budget or go all the way the $80+ range. There are two that stand out in the budget category.   The Corsair CX450 for $29 after $20 rebate and the Seasonic M12II 520 for $39 after $20 rebate.

I think the M12II 520 is the better fit for your system, but the deal expires tonight.  The CX 450 runs for 6 more days.   If you go up to $80, the Focus 550w that mariushm recommended is a fine option at that price point.

Your overclock is not stable. Decrease clocks and/or increase voltage.
Adding a 2nd PSU will do absolutely nothing to help you, and will likely just cause more issues.

That's fine power supply wise. See above.

The S12II is VERY reliable.  Very high heat tolerance also.  They are tough as nails.

Sample of one?  You realize the S12II reliability is legendary, right?  That's a big reason why it's been around so long.

On sound level, it depends on who you ask.  I have used countless S12II's and they have alway been very silent.  Several pro reviews drew the same conclusion.  On the other hand, some pro reviews and users have found them to be a little loud under heavy load.  A lot of variables play into perceived sound level.

Not necessarily.  S12II 520 shouldn't have any trouble with that system.  If you have better things to spend that money on, I would roll with the S12II.  If money is no object, then go ahead and upgrade.
