This strike is being run by the moderators of various subreddits. The moderators are unpaid volunteers who work on Reddit content. Every subreddit must have moderators to exist, unmoderated ones are deleted.

The changes being made will take away tools that make their job manageable. So, rather than leaving Reddit a month from now when the changes hit and their volunteer job becomes unmanageable, they are demonstrating what that will be like, while the change can still be undone.

Seems pretty stupid to me. Just inconveniencing the users. Especially when they've basically announced a time frame. So Reddit knows it can just sit tight, and know that in 48 hours it's over.... so... what?

I realize some groups may stay dark longer than 48 hours... but let's be real, I don't think it'll be many.

I am so lost, and doing the dad head shake, and facepalm.  What's this group tantrum about on reddit? do they think umm...(googles): steve haffman will care that a some forums set their thing to private?
I also don't think they  thought about bystandards.  New to me google is now. lol or was now. doing it's thing through reddit. I came across a potential fix  for why my mums email bounces when she sends something to me. But I won't know now because something something dark,  protest. It's like people taking a wiz in a (expletive deleted) place of residence because of bad service.  All that does is make things stinky for workers and people coming to visit.
So what's the point? like if I get upset about a video on a LTT channel, I can leave a comment about why. Maybe a mod will read it and pass it on. That seems more umm umm polotic and cordial than posting a bunch of dumb things on twitter to "protest" a video.

It’s mind blowing just how big LTT has grown when thinking it used to be little hardware review videos.

Its mind blowing to think that a lot of us are the same age as Linus as well and someone in on our generation has had such success!

I believe he’s making a good decision here just by putting myself into his shoes. Having so many employees now can’t be easy at all and again it’s hard to believe they would need such work force as well.

The time has come for me to step down as CEO of Linus Media Group (and everything else under the umbrella). Let me tell you what that looks like: what's changing, what's not, and who is taking my place...

Just ask them to provide you with a device. Many people do not have privately owned devices that they could install MDM on, and they should have a solution for this. You don't have to provide more detail other than that the original device you had MDM is no longer available (sold, damaged, et al).

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say it’s due to two things:

    1. Significant tinkering like overclocking just isn’t nearly as important anymore

    2. Hardware reliability is just better and more compatible than ever.

Significant defects like the Gigabyte PSUs or the AMD 7k3D chips are already discussed enough in the tech community that most people wil know to avoid them.

That Linux value seems suspiciously low. I feel like I've met more people recently that have switched to Mint or Ubuntu. In part because they don't feel the need for a new computer but don't want Windows 11. That or I simply have met some oddballs the past few weeks.

He did, at length, on the WAN show.
Not everything is some big controversy. Contracts end and sponsors don't have to renew. It happens. You can put down the pitchfork.

I stay subbed because I enjoy the odd video, but I rarely make it through their content without falling asleep.
I mean that literally. His voice and constant tone knocks me right out.

I also don't really see the point in unsubbing. Doesn't really do much either way.

Every content creator has to find their niche. He's made videos on the downsides, and they've done exceptionally well. So, that's what he'll continue doing until it doesn't work anymore.

It's fine if you'd like to express your distaste with the direction of their videos, but it seems rather odd to post about it just because they don't agree with you. It's their channel, their direction. They don't cater to only you.

RoseLuck462 reacted to Thomas A. Fine in Linus is wrong about his future with 16" laptops.
I was just watching the WAN show.  Linus: "I just don't think I wanna carry around a sixteen inch laptop ever again no matter how cool and sexy it is."

Ahhh Linus.  You're not getting any younger.  Let me tell you, as a Gen-Xer (on the cusp of a Boomer), that when you hit a certain age, your close vision will go to hell.  It's an inevitable change that will hit every single one of us (typically in early to mid forties).  And at some point, computer glasses or progressives will become mandatory.  But between mandatory glasses for computing, and no glasses for computing, comes the "bigger screen is better" phase of older people using computers.  And even with corrected vision, which I have, there's just limits to what that can give you.  Anything more than 110 PPI simply makes no sense to me any more.  On the plus side this saves money.

More generally, I've often noticed on LTT that when you talk about screen resolutions, you never think about people with aging eyes.

I still fondly remember when I could hold my hand an inch from my eyeball and see my fingerprint with crystal clarity.  And how shocked I was when that moved out to three or four inches.  Nowadays, there's no chance of ever seeing my fingerprint without magnifications (and to be clear, another thing that young people don't realize is that computer glasses and reading glasses are just various levels of slight magnification).

When you reach this age, it will 100% drive your purchasing decisions with phones, laptops, and monitors.  You will seriously consider 16 and 17" laptops at some point in your future. (Although in fairness, by then, a 3 pound 17" laptop with great performance and long battery life might just exist.)

It's just the usual clickbait drama, there was already a massive thread about this. If Linus wants to say something on it he can, but there is no need for him to address it. If he's legitimately doing something illegal like refusing to allow employees to discuss wages, then the disgruntled ex-employees who post their gripes on reddit could go to the authorities instead of well, reddit.

What censorship? They just elect to not sell guns... So does my grocery store. Plenty of opportunities for you to buy guns.

I like " forgotten weapons". How is he censored? I'm not subscribed, but his videos get suggested to  me. And I'm 100% not looking for guns, so the algorithm sure will suggest it to people who are interested.

Google is private company. Private companies have no obligation to treat all customers/users the same, outside of certain protected classes. Content about/including guns is not a protected class.
