Car712 got a reaction from Phoned_ in Analysis of the USB-C dongle/headset mess. Bring back the 3.5 mm jack!
My question is, why did several companies *cough*Apple*cough* just all of a sudden start forcing USB-C on people?? It just made everything complicated, and basically forced people to buy more dongles and hubs I mean, there was almost no support at that time, and there still is almost none today!
(I know apple is not the only company to do this, but still)

Car712 got a reaction from PCGuy_5960 in California judge blocks US ban of WeChat, letting people WeChat another day
Actually yes lol, even people like me who were born in America and know literally nobody in China use it, since the cell service is so awful in my area my friend who is Chinese uses it to text/call me, despite living only a few streets away.

Car712 reacted to Kisai in Will any of these pci-e cards allow for "fast charging" using usb-c cable?
Gonna say, unlikely. They have SATA power connectors on them, but that's probably only to supply 5V. The Note 20's fast charge requires USB 3.1 PD with PPS (PD 2.0). If it doesn't supply PD, then it's 15w max. Most laptops will not provide 15w, only 7.5w on USB-C. Desktop motherboards are equally unlikely to provide the needed 100w to the USB-C port to enable PD.

A problem that you're going to have isn't necessarily that the port can't deliver enough power but that the negotiation between the phone and the port won't allow it. There's some computer logic behind weather a device slow or quick changes. It's not strictly that it can't deliver enough amps.
I would look for something that advertise quick charging or product reviews that say it has it as a feature. If it doesn't say it had it it's a gamble not in your favor that it will.

lol no it was a user who posted something that was apparently deleted, I didn't quote because it would cause more spam

You can clip and lube the stabilizers, but that requires soldering if the board isnt hotswappable. If you are going that far you might as well replace them with genuine cherry stabilizers.

You could get some rubber rings to add to the switches, if the rubber is firm it might change the feel to your liking

Car712 reacted to Fasauceome in Should I try to remove thermal 'paste' around chipset die?
all that matters is that the top of the die is clean. You could take a cue tip and wipe off the excess on the sides if you really wanted to, but it won't affect anything.

Car712 got a reaction from Godlygamer23 in High GPU Clock and Temps at idle
Well, not necessarily, I ran both the ASUS software and GPU-Z at the same time, and GPU-Z seemed to be reporting the correct stuff (that screenshot), while the ASUS software just seemed to be mis-reporting the clock lol
Still uninstalled it though, probably better without it, even if it wasn't "causing" the "issue"

Car712 reacted to Fasauceome in What gaming laptop to buy?
For gaming, focus on he graphics card. Laptops won't be equipped with an underpowered CPU for gaming. An i5 with a 1660 ti will perform a lot better than an i7 and 1650 across the board.

Car712 got a reaction from greenmax in IPVanish VPN kinda slow
Not exactly a tutorial, but vultr offers a "1 click" deployment: https://www.vultr.com/apps/openvpn
There is definitely other VPN programs out there btw, I just use openvpn personally.

Honestly I would just run your own VPN server (using a VPS) and you could choose a location very close to you, which would make the speed nearly identical to your speed without a VPN, providing you dont get an awful VPS provider, just go with the big trusted companies like Vultr, Digitalocean, Linode, etc. (Its cheaper too!)

Car712 got a reaction from FakeCIA in What Web Browser do you use?
Firefox 100% on all devices. I don't trust Google a damn bit, and edge is crap, so yeah.. (Firefox is also a great browser btw, and very regularly updated, despite what many people say)

Car712 got a reaction from nickeltube in Server components well chosen?
You definitely would, but the 2600x doesn't have an integrated GPU either.
-
Car712 got a reaction from nickeltube in Server components well chosen?
I would go with the 2400G (or the 3400G, since the 2400G is a bit hard to find from a 1st party seller, just beware the board may not be updated out of the box for 3rd gen ryzen), since that has integrated graphics, and while its certainly not necessary, you may want to get at least 3000mhz RAM.

Car712 reacted to GrockleTD in MSI boards not having FAST BOOT?
hey, at least you didn't have the b450 steel legend, was pretty meh imo, left lots to be desired

Car712 reacted to GrockleTD in MSI boards not having FAST BOOT?
i don't know that fast boot is that big of a deal... could just be me but generally my PC has booted up plenty quick enough for me just running with an SSD

Car712 reacted to Fasauceome in Are both M.2 slots the same speed?
The motherboard slot using chipset lanes has higher latency because it has PCIe lanes not directly connected to the CPU, so in that regard, the CPU connected slot is a touch faster (though it may make little difference depending on the application)
Whichever the manual says is the CPU slot is the best option overall, usually that's the top one since it's closest.

Car712 reacted to Bitter in Looking for a cheap (~$50-60) Mini-ITX 300 series board
Hmm it's still sitting at $50, interesting. I've bought lots from that seller and only one dud that was sold as not working and was actually not working, everything else has worked (even the sold as not working but that's not a guarantee, I knew what I was buying and fixing). They ship fast and package well, I'd feel confident buying from them. It's probably an overkill board for what you need but if you can snag it for $70-90 shipped it's a good deal regardless!

you could try sniping that but I doubt it'll go for under $100. Newegg eBay has a H310 board for about $80 shipped.
