KRC1023 got a reaction from DioOmicida in "High Density Memory"
Windows 32bit? Outta here! I'm running Linux x64
I think I'll buy it (Probably won't return it as return shipping to HK is miserable...)
Edit: WTF? Edited to remove a mistake and it reposted.... Whatever.

I'd say even get a thinkpad X220 or something, should be able to pick one up for about $250 or less (a lot less possibly) and you will end up with fairly good battery, an i5 2xxx, and 4gb of memory. Upgradable to 8gb memory and you can mess with the storage disk if you'd like.
Edit: 12.5" screen.
t420 is about the same-ish but 14 inch.
Also you could get x2*0 or x4*0 where * is more than 2 and get a newer generation of laptop.
For reference the 2-series is from 2011-ish.

Yup, as long as the RAM is the same latency and voltage it should be good to go. They're also the same frequency so you're fine there.

Oh god. No one ever buy that power supply. It's a fire hazard and there's a good possibility it will fail to protect your system. Get a Corsair CX-series even, would be better than that. Also, there's no reason at all to get the G3258 and put it in that mobo, you can't overclock in that board. Get the G3250. It's the same but not unlocked.
Edit: Also nuke that motherboard. There's a gigabyte one that price too that won't be crappy.
Edit again: In this day and age there's no excuse for not running an SSD either. They are cheap and will massively improve your speed. Get whatever 120GB one you can find for cheapest. Sandisk has one for $45.

Try pulling half your memory, if one crashes try the other. Also try resetting CMOS. If you can (Don't know that chip) try without graphics card. Might also try a different PCIe slot. Clean the contacts on your graphics card with a pencil eraser (A fresh one, don't cover it with graphite- it's conductive...)

Did you reset it by setting it to reset, powering on, powering off? Another thing is try cleaning all the contacts on graphics card/memory with a brand new clean pencil eraser.

CMOS. BIOS. UEFI. There's a button or a jumper on the mobo.
Edit: It's likely a jumper on that board. Should say something like CLEAR CMOS by it or RESET CMOS etc.

KRC1023 got a reaction from Joey No Salad in After building pc won't turn on
There should be some writing on the motherboard by the connector telling you which pins to connect to what.
(Unless you've got that cheap horrible one I've got in my minecraft server, but let's just not talk about that)
Edit: And no, it didn't have a manual. And no, there wasn't documentation *at all* on the internet.

You also have to spend extra on a cooler, and it will be less power efficient and run hotter. If he ever wants to run more than minecraft he'd be glad he got the intel system that can be upgraded.

KRC1023 got a reaction from swordsman247 in Building my first PC soon. My parts so far. (Feel free to give feedback, Thanks)
I like it! I'd go with the 970 over the 390 personally, specifically if you've ever even thought of running linux on it. Linux + AMD = bad.
Even if not, I'd still go 970 because I like nvidia but that's your choice. All around looks great though.

As someone who really liked the server videos, network stuff, and other things all related to the "enterprise market" I'd love to see more reviews of enterprise gear, server stuff, and anything else that could be useful.
That just is one of the huge areas I'm interested in.

As far as I can tell it should work great- I will say though having had a slightly faster one of those (e5450, same process node, just a slightly faster clock), even just one of them... it's a fairly effective quad-core space heater but it's a pretty fast system.

KRC1023 got a reaction from The Great Sayain Man in I was busy over last little while. Did anything notable happen in the hardware world?
Pretty much what everyone else said, however I'd recommend taking a week off and binge-watching all of wan show, the tek, etc from whenever you left --> now.
I'm real helpful.

Looks as though you will need a 12 volt, 2 amp power adapter. Find one from an old router or switch, maybe even some external hard drives. These specs are *usually* on the back of a wall wart. Anything 12 volts and at least 2 amps will work, as stated above by someone else.
Edit: Wow post timing
