goto10 reacted to mariushm in can i streaming?
Dude, resolution isn't everything. The amount of detail and quality you preserve in that resolution is more important.
If you resize whatever resolution you play at to 720p and try to compress that to 2.5-3mbps you'll get some quality. If you resize to exactly half, you get fewer resizing artifacts and resizing is much faster (basically free) so more processing power can be used to squeeze more quality into 2.5mbps or whatever you choose. 960x540 pixels squeezed into 2.5 mbps gives you more quality.
If you're new at streaming, people won't even notice the lower resolution
a lot of twitch streamers are streaming at 1600x900 60fps simply because they can squeeze more quality in the bitrate allowed Twitch allows... for example most viewed gta5 stream as i type this is 1600x900 60fps at 7.5-9 mbps ... for new streamers I think Twitch limits you to max 6mbps or something like that.

goto10 reacted to Kawaii Koneko in Will a 55 inch tv will be ok if i seat 7-10 feet away?
That's like saying just hold the phone closer to your face. ?
Seriously though, it feels different to me just sitting really close to a display vs sitting comfortably back with a big display in front of me at a reasonable distance. Look at this way, is just sitting closer to your TV to watch a movie exactly the same as seeing a movie in a theater?

goto10 got a reaction from Kawaii Koneko in Will a 55 inch tv will be ok if i seat 7-10 feet away?
if he doesnt want to sit, but he will be on his bed, the distance cannot be altered that easily, that is why it is important the size of the display/tv here

Not sure why people complain about the 212. They are not really that hard to put in. Takes me about 3 minutes.

I sit around seven feet or so away from my 55" and it is perfectly fine. I actually upgraded from a 1080p 40" to a 4k 55" and it did take me a day or so to adjust to the new size. It felt a little weird at first for gaming since my eyes had to move around more. Honestly, I now think I could go up another five to ten inches. Sometimes I wish it was a little bigger. I don't know what I'm going to do when I move and sit much farther away. I'm going to need a really big TV lol.
Yeah, but it is worth the trade off since you get a much bigger display than you would with a monitor. It makes everything feel more cinematic and in your face.
Also, the response time is getting a lot better with TVs. The Vizio P series has a response time of like 16ms at 4k60hz but there is almost a 10ms penalty when using HDR. So yeah, you are right that it would be ideal not to game on a TV but like I said, they are big. And once you get used to the response time, it isn't that bad. You really get used to it.
I bought a Sony X900E which is honestly a great TV and pretty damn good for gaming but it doesn't have nearly the great response time of the Vizio P series. I think it was almost twice the price but I have a bit of buyers remorse and kind of wish I went with the P series for the response time. My TV does look gorgeous though so IDK. My parents bought the 65" P series and it actually looks really good considering the price.
I think within the next five years we are going to see TVs with very low response times, like under 10ms and maybe even approaching gaming monitor response time. There does seem to be a bit of a trend of catering to gamers since we are such a big market.

goto10 reacted to JohnMc45 in Raspberry pi 4 for TV and retro gameing.
Not in a rush. Probably hold out for a 4gb model then.
Can't remember who makes it or where I seen it for sale. But someone makes a proper CPU cooler for. Heat pipe fin stack and little fan.
I might do that for home as I can probably build something out of parts on hand. But will be much bigger then the Pi already have to much stuff in and around the TV stand.
Second would be nice to travel with it sometimes.

Custom solution had an old roughly 20mmx20mmx15mm heatsink I slapped on with a thermal pad and a 20mm fan I put above it
it still will reach 80c very slowly good enough since nothing will ever pin all cpu's to 100% for long periods of time

emulation is already similar or better then 3b+ with the nightly build of lakka in some cases, It is quite a journey tho my 4gb model is OC to 2ghz so my results might be a bit sewed
However that is without any specific optimizations yet for pi 4

goto10 reacted to Frankenburger in So if games have to suport multi GPU setups?
The way games are rendered are fundamentally different from the modern era and the 1990's and early 2000's. AFAIK, Voodoo cards used interlacing, where one GPU would render every other line. I don't know if there were compatibility issues back then, since that was before my time. More modern multi GPU setups require compatibility layers to be enabled within the drivers. In the early 2000's, it took Nvidia about 2 years to add enough compatibility layers to officially support around 100 games when Nvidia's SLI hit the market.
Today is a whole different beast though. Nowadays, there's rendering modes that simply don't work with multi GPUs depending on how it's implemented. Temporal AA is famous for not being compatible with SLI, because it screws with the alternate frame rendering (AFR) mode.
Games don't need to "support" multi GPU setups per say, because most of it is still handled by the drivers, but there is a certain amount of responsibility that developers needs to account for when developing a game. If developers use rendering methods that mess with the foundation of modern multi GPU technology, then there's nothing AMD or Nvidia can do about it.

goto10 got a reaction from Radium_Angel in Is this RAM Optane thing faster than NVMEs?
the problem with optane is price, and size
at first optane was offered not as a storage device but as a added card to help prove performance of hard disks
but price is ridiculous, you pay for 16 gbs the same you pay for a 240 gbs nvme
prices have changed recently, but optane is not moving forward in the market, not at least as intel would like to
256gbs to be used on a pc as a boot drive costs around 130 dollars, alot less than it used to, but the benefits of use it as boot drive are not that impressive
move windows from a hard disk to a ssd is a big improvement
move windows from a ssd to a nvme is a very small improvement
move windows from a nvme to a optane, perhaps is not a improvement
not at least in terms of you seeing the pc running apps faster, booting faster, performing faster

goto10 got a reaction from Duski in Why are so many people against consoles?
that is what every online modder says, sure
i as a pc technician, as a old gamer and as a user see such comments and first laugh, then get upset because people actually believe all this crap, pc superior, console inferior
yeah, sure, compare pc to console is compare a banana with a watermelon
comments like these just fuel a stupid hate against each platform that have developed separatedly because each one tries to achieve different things but people just compare them just because game developers didnt wanted to leave in the dark a section of the market, a market that has required so much adaptation to become what is today
see consoles and pc as enemies, one inferior, other superior only tells me that the people doing that doesnt comprehend every detail involved on each side to make things work, if you dont understand what a console is and what offers with what conditions and at what price you cant compare it to anything else because there is nothing to compare
the idea of upgrade and progress, so few people really do it, and the existence of a console for more than 5 years proves that a large amount of the market is ok with this fact, because all you want to do is play a game, not hear people whine for details that in the end depend in cost, benefits and simplicity of each platform when offered to each person
each person has right to like one or other platform, or like both as i do, but no platform is perfect and paint one or the other as perfect is really stupid
no platform that exists is perfect, nor close to be perfect
all you can aim is to convenience on your circumstances and accept the cost or limitations that come with your decisions

goto10 got a reaction from LogicalDrm in How can one Recover an Windows Product Key embedded in its hardware without having a hard drive in?
if it has windows 7 the license key must come in the coa sticker somewhere on the case
if you cant find that coa sticker with the 25 letters key, you dont have windows 7 license, all you have is your hardware and nothing more
you can install windows 10 and buy a license later

goto10 got a reaction from GoodBytes in Windows 10 - small capacity SSD
i personally dont like sshd idea, is still a small ssd with a hard disk integrated, is a hassle and since it is a laptop, a ssd only situation doe benefit it in terms of weight, power consumption affecting battery and durability, hard disks do get damaged on a laptop, the movement, toss them around do damage those hard disks
