Albatross reacted to SaperPL in SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project
    Hello there, fellow hardware geeks

For some time now we've been running a small project in order to create a proper console form factor pc case that we could manufacture and sell for reasonable price.

There's two of us in "WE": SaperPL and ZombiPL - we're both engineers, hardware geeks, have tons of experience with building and fixing pc's and we have the experience of family company designing and building heavy industrial machinery and renewable energy power plants. ZombiPL is experienced mechanical and automation engineer and I'm a game developer with a few titles credited already which hopefully will help us in marketing the product through different channels

The main idea was to get as close as possible to 6.5L volume which is around the size of X360 and PS3 at the same time making it possible to fit full length 305mm VGA's and upcoming SFX-L standard power supplies. Our main focus was on form and function and because of this the case might be a little *different* than all that tool-less stuff you get in enthusiast range cases nowadays.

We went with full-metal design without any plastic front or covers because the cost of molding matrixes would mean we have to get big initial order (mass production) to start manufacturing and at this point we'd rather start with something we can do regardless if we get 1000 or 50 orders. Case design was consulted mostly on the hardforum small-form-factor subforum.

    Original topic is here: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1832126

    So here's what we've got:

Albatross got a reaction from spamy666 in genuine question: why a 4k tv?
Let me explain my purchase of one. I'm sure it is different for others.

I don't have cable or tv services anymore as they were too expensive and useless to me. My TV is embarrassingly small (early 2000 model something I believe) to most people but I was content with it and still am (ye 'ole faithful). I would personally never purchase a tv with such a price tag, however my ma loves huge tvs, always wanted one, so I went out this Black Friday and found a 49" 4k LG tv (120 refresh rate) for $450 (plus $65 for a 5 year warranty) so she could watch with Netflix/PSVue and blurays/dvds. I stood before the tv in the store comparing it to others next to it and the difference was immense next to non-4K tvs. Watching something like Netflix or blurays reveals an insane quality difference, plus there are a ton of features that are actually useful and the 49" is easy enough to see across the room.

For a min-theater, high quality experience for non-tv reasons I can understand why people buy them now.

The start of information control and surprise surprise, it is coming from a Democrat that lost. Next they will go after conservative new sites/channels, and then independent until only their voices can be heard.

Funnily enough though, fake news comes from Fox News and CNN the majority of the time, but oh, we can't silence DNC controlled media. That'd be wrong!

Fake news is a problem, yes, but letting certain people determine what is "fake news" is just as big as a problem. They can just as easily say any source is fake and have it censored or removed. For example, a lot of people claimed the news about Hillary's secret server (and classified information sharing) was "fake news" (hell, even Hillary claimed it!) but look where that got us a few months later.

The solution is never censorship of information. If you don't get how that is a problem, not my problem.

Honestly, she sounds kind of mean and not worth the effort. To talk about a previous relationship so negatively publicly around that person you were involved with? Seems really cruel. Just act like she's a nobody/someone different and ignore her elsewhere. Don't feel ashamed OP.

Nope. I, and most other's voted for trump because he was the better candidate.
We didn't want world war three with russia, and now we don't have to worry about that. If it had gone the other way, then right now you'd be a lot less concerned with technology business expansion in the US falling by 1%, but by where russia's nuclear submarines are, and how long it would take for them to be crushed in the upcoming war with NATO until they respond in the only way they can. Nuclear rebuttal. No one wins in that situation, no one at all.

Got an issue with what I said? Think I'm being a crazy theory crafter, or none of that is based in reality? Then welcome to the club of uninformed political vocalists. Go read up on Clinton's policies and behavior with russia.

Not wanting to derail this thread on a single comment by an uninformed person(s) any futher than I have already, I'll just finish it up by staying this.
    1. You're absolutely right. Why the mainstream media can refuse to talk about the tensions between us and russia and how its past cold war levels right now is absolutely abhorrent. The bulk of america doesn't even realize that we bombed a god damned russian allied base only a couple months ago, and when russia demanded an answer, all clinton's group could do was say 'Oh, yea, that was our bad lol.'
A military airstrike isn't exactly carried out against a fortified military base without knowing exactly who's base that is. We knew damn well who was running it, but did it anyway because we don't like russia being in Syria.
    2. Clinton has been pushing hard, very hard, for a no-fly zone in the sovereign territory of one of russia's closest allies, and one of russia's few active military war zones. That no-fly zone would literally, instantly mean going to war with russia. If we do end up going to war with russia, then its simply NATO V. Russia, and it doesn't take a military strategist to easily predict how that would end. Heavy casualties on both sides initially, but as russia's supply dwindles and NATOs only builds up after the initial outbreak of war, then NATO would absolutely demolish Russia. The two simply are not comparable on military strength, except in one regard. The one thing russia can keep up with against NATO is nuclear armament. And once russia is pushed back, beaten, and bloodied in the war with NATO then they are left with only a single option left to try and remain a sovereign entity in the world; Nuclear war. We also... all know exactly how that ends, and its fucking bad for everyone.

A user looking to make their own systems more efficient with new parts is, very much, their right. It's also a mentality that, while I don't practice it, applaud.
But forcing that ideology onto all users, and even companies, is not the right of government, and more often than not, sees only one result: increase of cost to the consumers.

Either way you end up with a "ministry of truth", which is a horrible idea either way. Government run or not, it won't be trustworthy because sooner or later, someone (Hillary and the Democrats) will try to subvert it to push their own agenda. All of the "fake news" during this election, was coming entirely from the left side of the political spectrum.

Should be considered illegal? They flat out ARE illegal. The FBI director flat out said, to congress, "if it were anyone else". Why didn't he go after her? Because he doesn't want to end up mysteriously committing suicide by shooting himself in the back of the head twice (that's actually a case that happened, involving someone who was close the the Clintons. Somehow a person was able to commit "suicide by shooting themselves in the back of the head, twice", because that's actually physically possible somehow.)

Go watch the entire hearing committee interview with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence Inspector General. They found emails in her service, that at the time were designated ORCONN, which means "Originator Controlled". Meaning that the agency who created the documents, deems them so sensitive that only that agency can give people permission to access the documents. They're so sensitive that the ODNI-IG, couldn't even give them to congress, and couldn't even tell congress who actually created them, by law

Albatross reacted to Techicolors in Mafia 3 FAQ-Review
    What is this?
A review in the form of an FAQ for Mafia 3 PC version.

    What's it about?
A guy named Lincoln Clay avenging the death of his entire family, also backstabbed by what he thought was his loyal friend Giorgi. The guy who called the shots was the kingpin Sal Marcano. Lincoln Clay then tries to flush him out by dismantling Marcano's entire operation.

    Enjoyment factor?
If you like doing the same thing over and over again (which involves killing goons again and again), loving the recycled content, there is some glimmer of enjoyment.

    And the offensive content?
    Referring to this image
Yes, there is a lot of offensive stuff in this game (the n-word, colored vs whites, police brutality, hispanics, corruption...). Yes, the KKK is in this game as well. Not much sexism though.

How long did it take to beat?
Took 30 hours. Did some optional missions as well but I think 90% of the time spent is working up until the endgame.

So what do you do in this game?
You do a lot of repetitive activities. Over and over again. I am used to doing repetitive stuff, but there is certainly a lot of it in this game.

First, you will meet 3 underbosses: Vito (from Mafia 2), Cassandra, and Burke. Then you'll have to take 9 territories, and each territory contains several illegal activities, such as racketeering or gambling. Each territory is ruled by one of Marcano's underbosses, and it is your job to dismantle each territory to flush out the underboss so you can kill them. You take the territory afterwards, but you'll have to give it to one of your underbosses. The activities in each territory can be given to any underboss, but the entire territory has to be ruled by someone, and it doesn't have to be the same underboss. For example, I can give Burke gambling, but I can still give either Cassandra or Vito the entire district.

    Sense of progression?
There is some. As you give your underbosses some power (and do their loyalty missions), they'll earn more money. But it can also result in another underboss losing power, and thus losing money.
When an underboss gains more money, they'll reward you with perks, like Burke's ability to call off the cops for a few minutes. If an underboss loses money, you lose the perk you have gained from them previously. Additional rewards like new weapons are also given to you, but as far as I know these are permanent so you cannot possibly lose those.

    How hard is it?
The hardest part is how mind-numbingly repetitive the game is. 100% true.

There are 3 difficulties. I played at medium, but hard mode isn't that bad. You just get killed a lot faster if an enemy flanks you or you stay out of cover a second too long.

You can also change driving. Normal or Simulation. Simulation feels like traction control is off. I just leave it on Normal.

If you have played cover shooters like GTA, this game will be very easy.

    Power-ups?
You can call Burke to call off the cops even when they're still pursuing you (though it gets locked out in certain missions).
You can call Vito for 3-4 guys sent out to help you. You cannot command them, so they go off doing whatever as long as they get to kill enemy AI. they can get killed-off very easily in a lot of situations.
You can call Nicky (Burke's sibling) to help you cut off telecomms. This prevents anyone from calling in reinforcements or witnesses to call police.

There are more but those are the most powerful.

    Stealth gameplay?
You can play this game stealthily. The AI is ridiculously dumb as soon as you try to kill them off with a silenced pistol or even a sniper rifle. But they will immediately become aware of your location if you take out a couple of them in a group at once. Some missions however prevent you from going stealth.

    How uninspiring is Lincoln Clay?
I admire his conviction, but this guy is just like Aiden Pierce from Watch dogs 1. The parallels are so similar they might as well be twins. If you haven't played Watch dogs 1, then... Lincoln is sadly very uninspiring. IMO of course

    Any memorable characters?
Only Vito, since he is the guy you played from Mafia 2. Father James, as well (he narrates a couple of monologues, and they're quite good). Maybe Burke and Cassandra, after you do their loyalty missions.

     What about Joe Barbaro??

    And Leo Galante?

    Romance??
What? There is no romance. There is one very suggested implication though, but nothing happens.

    Weapons?
There are a few (pistols, rifles, shotguns, submachine guns (yes there is a tommy gun), and special weapons which are rocket launchers, an LMG, and a noobtube). Some can be bought, some have to be unlocked by doing favors for your underbosses. Some can also be unlocked for free, which requires a certain money threshold for an underboss. There are also weapon upgrades. No, they are not attachments. Just passive effects like more ammo or more stability. Guns upgrades aren't available for the special guns.

    Upgrades?
You can upgrade the usual, like health, faster cars, etc. All require certain money thresholds to be met for an underboss, and some can be taken away from you if that underboss falls under the threshold.

    Cars?
You get 6 cars, 2 are already available early-on. A very early perk from Burke allows you to get one of these six cars to be delivered to you as much as you want. The car upgrades you can obtain are only applied to these six cars.

    Collectibles?
There are Playboy magazines you can collect (yes, uncensored nudes). Also oldies albums, patriotic/communist posters, Hot Rod magazines, and "Vargas paintings" which are equivalent to lewd anime art.

    Endings??

    And after the endgame?

    Performance?
Really, really bad. After an intermittent patch some moons ago, it still runs like crap. Do not buy this game! Least until it gets a hefty sale.

I played at 30fps. But frame pacing is terrible. 60fps cannot be achieved (I have a 1070 and 4690k).

    How are the graphics?
I run a reshade profile from this link. IMO makes the game look a lot better https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/6205/

However, there are some really ridiculous graphical bugs
    - the reflections. I don't even know what's going on here, but it keeps "updating" and is super blurry. While in motion, it gets even blurrier, like when driving. I have to stand still for a few seconds for the reflections to look "right".
    - hair. Everyone's hair looks like crap, apart from pre-rendered cutscenes.
    - artifacting. and no, this isn't my card dying. But straight-up graphical anomalies such as a blimp-like shadow that follows behind me or textures flashing.
    - lots of haziness around shiny objects. goes away after idling for a moment but immediately comes back as soon as you start moving.
    - the sky. it looks like it's painted pastel... you can see the cross-hatching, it's weird.

    Any glitches?
Not very much, actually. A YMMV type of deal.

    DLC?
    What? DLC?

There are a few planned. Guess I'll cover them when they come out.

One free DLC actually came out, and it is adding more outfits for Lincoln Clay... yep.

    Any pros, at least?
    Voice acting.
    Facial animations. Especially in cutscenes.
New Bourdeaux itself. Really quite detailed.
1960s depiction. Not wholly accurate, but captures it decently.

The reason we fear the government over companies is simple, the government can throw you in jail for not obeying them corporations cannot. They are not comparable in terms of power level, a corporation may have the power to ruin the lives of many but a large enough government can literally destroy the world.

Also this has nothing to do with corporations it is a needless regulation enforced by a laughable state government
