Michael McChesney got a reaction from Senzelian in HDMI Audio not working, but there is sound with bluetooth headphones
I just tried unplugging and then plugging the cable into a different HDMI port on the TV.  Now the sound is working.  I have no idea why, but working is working.  Thanks for helping me.

Actually, my data is being encrypted.  They call it "invisible encryption" and my data is being encrypted before the upload.  That is probably what's responsible for the drain on my CPU.

    Thank you for the advice.

I'm wondering the same thing.  It seemed they may just figure that if they announce the program is live in an LTT video, the cards are most likely going to go to regular LTT viewers who are most likely to be gamers.  But on tonight's WAN Show, Luke seemed pretty emphatic that they can guarantee the cards only go to gamers.  If you are going to confirm gamer status with Steam account names, does that mean they would need Steam to assist with the program?  Does anyone have any other ideas about how gamer status could be verified?  I suppose they could ask a question about Minecraft that someone that plays it will be able to answer.  But not everyone plays Minecraft.  Or perhaps they have a way to prevent bots from buying the cards and they figure if you are not a bot, you must be a gamer?

I think we really need to cut them some slack because they are attempting something they haven't done before and encountered unexpected problems that they thought could be fixed within a week that actually took longer.  So Linus is not going to make any promises as to when it will be ready.  That seems reasonable.  If on the other hand it was the video itself we were waiting for as opposed to the program the video is going to explain and production problems delayed it two weeks in a row I might be less understanding.  I mean if Linus said, "we shot the video this week, but you know what?  The video needs to be edited before it can be uploaded.  We got some editing software, but our editors need to learn how to use it before they can edit the video."   Well LMG's whole business is video production and they certainly know how to edit videos.  Figuring out how to add tariffs in the shopping cart for every possible jurisdiction isn't their normal business.

Michael McChesney got a reaction from JoeyRub in DVR Software for LOCAST?
There was a company called Aero that allowed people to view live and time shifted over the air broadcasts but it went out of business when the US Supreme Court ruled their business model was illegal.  There is a new company called LOCAST trying something similar.  LOCAST is attempting to take advantage of a provision of US law that allows nonprofits to rebroadcast OTA signals to increase their range.  LOCAST is a nonprofit that is rebroadcasting over the internet in a number of markets.  The service is free, but they do ask for a $5/ monthly donation if you use the service.

What I am wondering is whether there is a way to record/time shift LOCAST streams, ideally with some kind of timer.  But even if I had to be at my computer to begin a recording it would be worth it just to be able to fast forward through commercials.

I am recent adopter of cord cutting.  I am subscribed to Hulu Live, but Hulu Live does not include all my local (NYC) broadcast stations.  Specifically they do not carry my local CW or PBS affiliates.  I've tried to access these stations with an antenna and it seems Hulu is using the same antenna I am because I get all my local channels except my local CW and PBS affiliates.  I just found out earlier today that I've been approved to buy an apartment a few miles closer to the broadcast antennas, but I am not sure if the board will give me permission for a roof antenna and the apartment I am buying is on the 2nd floor of a building surrounded by other buildings.  Which brings me back to LOCAST.  I understand why they don't offer a DVR function because that is one of the reason Aero lost in the Supreme Court.  But I would gladly pay to buy a program that would allow me to time shift LOCAST streams.

I am not a senior citizen, but I am a retired person.  A very considerate sanitation driver was kind enough to rear end my car while I was stopped at a red light.  My car was totaled and my back was messed up.  Surgery didn't fix it so I got to retire on disability.  The City of New York spent about 5 years arguing the accident was my fault but eventually settled.  So now I just sit at home watching LTT videos.  At least I don't have a mortgage.

Thanks. I'll let you know how that works out.  I agree with you about the smart remotes.  Remember when you could just enter a channel manually?  I have an Asus PC I bought at the same time as this TV and I used to have it connectred to it.  But then last year I decided to build a PC and the Asus went into the closet.  After I moved and bought a QLED TV for my living room I tried connecting the Asus in my bedroom.  I had a few problems with it causing me to have to swap out its SSD.  But one issue was that when I first turned it on it would flash on and off.  Like 1 second on, 4 seconds off.  If I switched inputs for 15 minutes when I came back it had stopped flashing.  I tried swiching out the HDMI cable but no change.  But if I used am HDMI cable to connect to a monitor it worked perfectly.  Other PCs connected to the same HDMI port worked fine as well (aside from this detection issue).  Sometimes electronics just have gremlins that don't make sense.

I've been trying to build myself a HTPC for my bedroom for a couple of months now.  I built a system with a Ryzen 3200G and a Gigabyte DS3H Wifi MicroAtx board, but it wouldn't post. I decided to order a second DS3H Wifi board ($89 for a B450 w/integrated WiFi seemed like a really good deal), an Athlon processor, and additional memory.  Because of the way shipping was delayed, by the time I identified the first board was the issue it was too late to return it so I had to send it to Gigabyte for warranty service.  In the meantime, I built the system with the second board and it worked fine.  I built it in a Deepcool Matrexx 30 case (with a tempered glass side panel and only $35 on Amazon) I even threw in a bluray drive I had sitting on a shelf because I have lots of DVDs and blurays acquired when they were a thing. But then my sister bought a house and I decided to build her a PC as a housewarming present.  But I decided not to wait for the 1st board to be returned and took the board out of the PC I had just built.  Her PC came out really nice.  I thought about buying another board but pricing and availability been crazy lately.  But then I saw Micro Center  had an Asrock B550m Pro4 MATX board for $114.  I picked it up yesterday and today I rebuilt my PC with it.  Oh and I had put the 3200G in the PC for my sister and I upgraded to a 3400G.  I had left the power cables in place for cable management.  The weird thing was I had to remove them because the new board, also Micro ATX, was wider and covered more of the cable management openings.  But I plugged in all the cables.  I had removed the screws holding the optical drive in place so I could move it forward to make it easier to fit the board in the case.  But when I went to push it back into place I discovered it blocked by the 24 pin connector.  Shows what I know.  The DS3H is 9.6" X 8.5" but Micro ATX can be as large as 9.6" X 9.6".  So I guess my choices are to forget the optical drive, buy a larger case, or replace the B550 with the B450 if and when I ever get it back.  Or I suppose I can just have the drive stick out 1.1"...

I just transferred the PC I built last summer into the Fractal R6 and I noticed the same thing, or more accurately didn't notice a cable to connect the USB C port to the MOBO.  I was wondering if by plugging the USB 3 header into the MOBO I was also connecting the USB C port.  But I don't have any USB C peripherals with which to test the port.  Honestly, I would have bought a Fractal R6  without the USB C port, but I didn't see any for sale.  So I don't care very much, but it is curious that neither of our cases seems to have a wire to connect it.

Thank you so much.  It worked like a charm.  Now if I could only get a new cooler delivered that quickly.  I have a Cooler Master Hyper 212 cooling a i9-9900K in the PC I built.  I was thinking about upgrading to an AIO and just transferring the Hyper 212 to the Asus.  But that was before the pandemic eliminated my investment income for the foreseeable future and reduced my savings by 40%. I think I'll just order another air cooler from Jeff Bezos.  I'm sure he can use the money.  But anyway, thanks again for your help.

Michael McChesney got a reaction from teddygala in Making LMG and Floatplane Multinational
I watched the “Q&A With LMG Part 2: Business” panel on Floatplane and found it quite interesting. When they were discussing the potential benefits of relocating their corporate office to the U.S. (as well as the reasons they wouldn't), I had a thought. What would the pros and cons be of relocating Floatplane to the U.S.?

Linus has mentioned on several occasions that before long Floatplane is going to have to get its own offices. Yvonne mentioned that the LMG offices are less than 20 minutes from the border. How difficult would it be for Floatplane to get those offices in the U.S.? As I understand it, most Floatplane employees work offsite anyway. I bet there would be potential advantages in lining up additional creators as a U.S. rather than Canadian company. I am sure there would be disadvantages as well, but could Floatplane be a multinational corporation if they kept a Canadian presence? Luke's home office maybe? Or more likely a desk or two at LMG headquarters. What would happen if those U.S. Floatplane offices included space for 1 or 2 LMG employees whose job was to solicit the kind of U.S. business opportunities that are difficult for them to take advantage of as a strictly Canadian company?

There may well be legal, tax (especially tax), and other reasons that setting LMG and Floatplane up as multinational companies would be a bad idea. But maybe it would be a good idea after all.

Michael McChesney got a reaction from Dominik W in New LTT intro?
If they change it, I want it to be something better.  I don't think that what they showed on the live stream was better, but it was without sound so that might be part of the problem.  I think their best bet would be to come up with a few possible intros and either take a week where each video that week had a different intro and then take a poll or otherwise listen to feedback.  Or they could release a video that was just different possible intros and let us vote on which intro to switch to or to just keep the "iconic" intro they are using now.
