"OH MY GOD YOU BUILT THIS?!" Response whenever I show people my PC and they don't know who ThermalTake (my chasis) is...IDK if they're genuinely surprised and amazed at my abilities (abilities LOL) or if they're thinking I'm just a huge nerd and an outcast from society

I don't hate Apple, but I don't like how they talk about their products.. Think about the iPhone 6. They deserve the hate they got for that.

I am getting 80FPS drops never below 60fps. My system is in my signature. I have a solution to the OP's problem. Shut your computer down and unseat your graphics card from the motherboard. Reseat it and then reinstall your Nvidia drivers. I would have the graphics card out for 30 seconds to a minute.

ThatAngryGnome reacted to typographie in BF1: Are i5's really that bad?
I'm using a 6600K at 4.5 GHz. All four cores are usually pegged around 95%+ in BF1, but I don't usually have any noticeable framerate issues. I'm at 60 FPS most of the time, and if there are any drops they're probably no worse than 55 FPS or so. If I try to do much in the background while BF1 is running (like, more demanding than a Youtube video), I do start to get some noticeable framerate hiccups.

I have Shadowplay's Instant Replay function turned off because I've seen it cause performance issues in some games before. It's not entirely disabled, but it has to be turned on to record manually. If you've got yours recording all the time, I suppose its possible that's a factor.

You're kidding, right? Watercooling is going to be sitting above the $20,000 (I think that was a cost Linus mentioned) Petabyte storage server?

LTT does have a tendency to do things the wrong way, but this seems a bit more than the wrong way to me. Potentially, your entire video archive (and a very expensive set of drives) is only as reliable as this watercooling loop is, mounted in a case not designed for watercooling.

EDIT: And you're using a self repaired radiator.... Or not, watching this video as writing this.

Dude it's great at such a young age you care about your health! Here's some extra advice:

Seeing you're an LTT fan, you (like most of us) spend a lot of time sitting on the computer. Make it a habit to balance out half an hour of sitting for 5 minutes of walking/jogging

Drop ALL soft drinks man. You don't get how bad they are for your face and body. In fact, drop almost everything found in gas stations. If you must, go for stuff light ice tea and gatorade, but even those are unhealthy. On a similar node, try to drop as much candy as possible. While choclate is alright per-say, stuff like gummies will destroy any progress you make.

Drink a lot of water. Like A LOT. By some crude logic, the more water that fills up your tummy, the less space is open for actual food. Not only will it make you look better by hydrating your body and face, but it will help you stop overeating. Sometimes, you won't eat much at all but feel very full, only because you drank a crap ton of water. Ask your parents to buy bottled water if they haven't. It comes for 2-4 bucks per 30, and throw some in the fridge. Every time you're on the computer, grab a bottle and just sip on it. I promise you, it will make you feel much, much better.

Try to also drink a lot of milk. It will help you grow, and trust me, you're gonna regret not drinking more milk and being more active at this age in a few years when you peak out at the maximum height you're ever gonna grow into. Also, the taller you are, the more streched out your fat is, and it can help you fix this problem. I've personally seen people go from pretty obese to actually decently weighted just by hitting generous growth spurts.

Try to only eat during main meals. If you're grabbing a snack, think to yourself "Do I REALLY need this?" and "Is there a healthier alternative I can eat?"

Since you're pretty young, it may be hard to set up a gym membership, but if it's possible with family/friends, try to start going to the gym. Don't be intimidated by anyone there. No one will judge you or ridicule you; in fact, many will probably embrace someone who is trying to lead a better lifestyle.

Try to get into sports, whether it be basketball or swimming or rowing. Something to get your heart pumping and you sweating.

ThatAngryGnome reacted to jwworker201 in Need some advice on this NAS build
Yes, the recommendations are 1GB RAM per TB so you should even be fine with 8GB. (for FreeNAS with ZFS)

And if you have the CPU cooler and the SSD laying around use it. I have a beQuiet Drak Rock Pro 3 in my home server (but it needs to be quiet).
But if you are only using one LAN-Port on the server a cache drive is not necessary because WD Reds easily have 100MB/s (I believe peaks arte around 200/220 MB/s).

And if you want to set up Syncthing on Windows... There is no official installer yet so you have to download the .zip file and place it anywhere on your hard drive. To start it with Windows set it as service (there is a tutorial in the Syncthing documentation) so you don't have to del with the cmd-window. If you want to access Syncthing you have to type in your browser <ip of your device>:8384

A brief attempt to summarize: The student built a clock and put it in a pencil case and brought it to school to show his engineering teacher. This teacher approved, but apparently others didn't. It made a beeping noise and police were called. He was handcuffed and taken away after being briefly interrogated, and is now suspended from returning to school. The police are also considering whether or not to place charges on him, while the device was described as being built with "a circuit board and power supply wired to a digital display, all strapped inside a case with a tiger hologram on the front."

He's wearing a shirt with the nasa logo on it. I have rarely been more disappointed in my country.
I should note, he was released from custody after a few hours.

Edit 9/16: The police are no longer thinking of pressing charges, and the president has invited him to the white house, and Mark Zuckerberg has invited him to FBHQ!

well the only way to do the upgrade which will preserver your files is to start the setup within your old windows. since that doesnt boot - no you will have to format the HDD for that.
a way would be to boot the win8 disk, repair the installed system and then upgrade from within that.

ThatAngryGnome reacted to TetraSky in Is it possible for ISP's to "boost" speed tests?
Well then, it's not ATT. If ethernet works, but Wifi doesn't, it's either your wifi device or the router itself. Even if your laptop is "fresh", it doesn't stop it from having a bad wifi card, or drivers.

Have you considered PowerLine to get the ethernet upstairs? You could then hook up your own Wireless Access Point(Really, any router will do, it will get its IP from the main router, just make sure you change the 192.168.1.1 address of it to 192.168.2.1 or something, so it's not interfering with the ISP's combo unit on the same network) there, which wouldn't be affected by the bad wifi of the router downstairs.
I've personally done this where I live, as the wifi from the main router is terrible where it is and I can't move it.

Heh, all these suggestions of using Firefox instead of Waterfox forget one thing about Firefox for Windows - There's currently no official & stable 64-bit version made by Mozilla for Windows. Use Waterfox instead if you're running a 64-bit version of Windows and love Firefox, all your Firefox data and extensions work on it.

Here is the "official" announcement from 25 July, 2014: https://youtu.be/Xe0mitLNRhQ?t=16m It sounds like Linus wanted everything sponsored from the start (Swiftech, Nvidia, and probably A LOT more emails sent out to other companies that never got back) and hence his excitement from the start. Luke @17:58: "this is his solution to not buying AC." Linus's (more potential dollar-saving) reaction to the idea that Luke's dad can hard-pipe the copper a few minutes later: https://youtu.be/Xe0mitLNRhQ?t=21m12s so obviously this was about money from the start, even though they explicitly said it was a "100% crazy" idea @20:58.
