ono got a reaction from PlayStation 2 in 1440 or 4k for Xbox One X?
It looks like 1440p output is available on Xbox One.

What the native resolution is depends on the game. Non-X enhanced games are going to be 1080p at best (900p seems common). X enhanced games usually give you multiple graphics modes, so it'll depend on what you choose there. Resolution modes will typically be higher than 1080p so those will be up/downscaled to 1440p.

I imagine P4G still looks better than the PS2 version though? I do have PS TV but haven't gotten around to replaying P4G on it. I bought a Vita for P4G. That and Uncharted via PS+ are the only Vita games I've finished lol I played a couple more via PS TV since that's my preference.

I'm the one dude in the poll voting Mario it looks like.

I've played every mainline Mario since SMB on NES to the recent Odyssey on Switch. Loved the series as the kid, and still a system seller for me today. Old games in the series hold up and are fun to play today. Admittedly with some adjustment for 3D Mario controls.

I'm also a fan of a couple Metroid games, but I'm kind of meh for most of it, so I couldn't justify making this series #1 when I only really like Super Metroid and Metroid Prime. Likewise for Zelda, but with the additional problem of finding it difficult to replay games from this series.

Fire Emblem is too "new" for me to rank it high, as the 3DS games were my first. The GC and Wii games are definitely my favs here and the 3DS are fun enough. Hyped for the new Switch game. I biased toward console games over handhelds, which doesn't help FE's case since its localized English legacy is on GBA and DS. And why Pokemon is a huge Nintendo blind spot for me. I don't think the upcoming Switch one will do, but Pokemon 2019 will be my next attempt to get into Pokemon.

Also Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is amazing. Again, just one game I'm a big fan of though (I do remember liking DKC as a kid though, but that didn't continue forward), so hopefully they keep that series up on the Switch beyond the port.

From the quotes, the computer drive is not that much cheaper than a standalone player, so why not go for the player? You seem uncertain if your PC can play the 4K content anyway. The Xbox One S is pretty decent player as well. That's mostly want I use it for these days. I don't see why your "console alignment" is a factor here. I'm not sure if it supports Atmos at this point or not (initially it was a no), but I don't have such a sound system. That's probably the main deal breaker deal overall if it doesn't.

Bear in mind though that while 4K UHD BD or streaming are presented in 4K, the master may be of lower resolution and you're just buying, say, upscaled 2K content. Granted there probably are some benefits of the higher bitrate and the HDR, but don't expect a jump in detail for every piece of content. http://realorfake4k.com/

On my 55" 4K OLED, I don't really see the different between a 1080p flick and a 4K version. I do notice the color difference due to HDR more so than resolution when comparing side-by-side. I just got new glasses last week, so my visual should be at its best right now too. But your viewing distance is a factor so YMMV. I personally don't think 4K is a big deal and I ain't replacing any BDs for 4K BDs. 4K streams are clearly better than 1080p streams though, but that is more due to the higher bitrate. Services need to bump the bitrate of 1080p content as well and I'd be happy.

Ryzen requires DDR4 and so does Coffee Lake. I do controller couch gaming with my PC. It's hooked up to the TV, but still need a wireless KBM to get stuff started so console is a little smoother experience there. I guess if you start up Steam big picture and use a steam controller when some menu point and click is needed it'd be better? Not sure I don't use either.

Bloodborne, God of War, and Persona 5 are my fav games on the PS4, so I think you'll be happy with one if you go that route. BTW, you only have Persona 5 available on PS4. I guess there are some upcoming dancing game spin-offs if that's what you're referring to. Unless you know something about a Persona 6 that I don't know about haha

You're already invested in PC gaming, so it seems to me that upgrading your PC is the better route to maintain and continue building your existing PC gaming library. I also echo the Coffee Lake recommendation. That also gives you some upgrade options in the future to higher core counts since I suspect gaming will utilize more cores as the norm down the road, like when consoles refresh with Ryzen or whatever in 2 years or so. Ryzen is good too since AMD seems more committed to keeping the current socket around longer than Intel. Since you seem a bit concerned of a price of such a big overhaul, the stopgap option of keeping your DDR3 RAM by buying used older gen Intel works and hopefully pricing is better when gaming demands higher core count. That should be OK for most stuff, save for silly outliers like Assassin's Creed: Origins and its crazy CPU intensive DRM.

G7=7577. So yeah, good budget gaming laptop. Since you're using external monitor, I guess you don't mind the entry level IPS. G5 has a slightly different cooling design but I believe it is decent too.

ono got a reaction from ghoul542 in Is it worth buying an Xbox One X If I already own a great rig?
With a rig as good as your's it is hard to justify an Xbox One X. Less harder with an Xbox One S. Unless you're a crazy person like me who buys all the consoles.

My thoughts on reasons you'd want an Xbox One and if many don't matter to you, then it's probably not worth it and you should look to the PS4 or Switch for a better complement to your PC.

    - If the console exclusive game is X-enhanced, the Xbox One X version is probably the most performant of all.

    - Historically my personal experience with HDR on Windows 10 (can't speak for other OS) has been that it doesn't work well or at all. Not sure if this has been fixed in general, but I was able to play Ni no Kuni II with HDR and it was glorious. HDR has worked flawless for me on Xbox One and PS4. So something to investigate if HDR is of any interest to you. You can get the cheaper Xbox One S for this feature.

    - While the number of Xbox One exclusives is minimal and won't change in the future due to Xbox Play Anywhere (MS gotta promote Win10 as a gaming platform too after all), it does have limited backwards compatibility to the original Xbox and Xbox 360, which gives you access to old MS console exclusives. Again you can get this on Xbox One S, but some of this backwards compatible titles are X enhanced so there is some advantage there.

    - UHD BD drive on both S and X. Cool if you're into high quality video. Personally, I find regular HD BD and 4K streaming very good. I guess I don't have a big enough TV to really tell apart 4K streaming vs BD, unlike HD streaming vs BD where it is pretty clear how bad the bitrate is streaming.

    - Xbox Game Pass. On both S and X. Cool service that I find better than streaming services (PS Now and whatever Gamefly is called) since my latency in those is real bad. If you run Win10 you can play the Play Anywhere titles on your rig too. Xbox also has EA Access that is similar, but you can get Origin Access on PC so that's not much of a value add.

ono got a reaction from PorkishPig in PS4 type regarding my tv
The limiting factor looks to be your HDMI ports. The specs you posted says: "Video inputs on all HDMI: @24,25,30Hz, up to 4K UHD"

So it looks like you'll be limited to 30 fps gaming at 4K [EDIT: It looks like the PS4 Pro doesn't even support 4K 30Hz based on what I see googling; so you're out of luck with 4K]. I don't know if that's acceptable to you. You can set a Pro to output at 1080p, which I presume your TV can do at 60Hz. On a game-to-game basis the Pro at 1080p can provide more stable framerate and/or supersampling anti-aliasing (i.e. game renders at a higher resolution and downsampled to 1080p output). Bear in mind that only select games are Pro enhanced, so check the games you are interested in now and the future, regardless if you plan on playing in 4K or not.

Regarding, input lag, that's not usually specified in manufacturer's specs. You'll need to look at reviews that test that sort of thing. If you TV has a picture mode for gaming, that usually means a bunch of processing is turned off for as low latency that model can achieve, which may still not be acceptable to you. So I'd try to test out the game mode (if available) with your PC and see if it looks acceptable to you. If it doesn't have a game mode, it doesn't sound like it is acceptable to you right now...

I know people who think the Switch is too large to be considered portable. I'm not one to keep a 3DS in my pocket, save for like the airport, so I'm not one of those. I'm not really sure if this mock up of a mini version would be small enough though. If it's long enough to be compatible with the existing dock, then I think it's still larger than a phablet and probably uncomfortable to place in a pocket of anything but some baggy cargo pants or something. But I wear jeans so I don't even like the PS Vita in my pocket. Only the DS/3DS due to the folding design. Now that works.

New PC ver could still be a mess if you play online, depending on how well they moderate online play. I heard cheating is rampant with the current PC ver with people using trainers for invincibility or whatever invading your game. So if you want a good online experience, a console version may still be the way to go. Offline, hopefully PC will be great.

No idea which version I'd get. I have the 360 version via games for gold way back when. Switch is probably a step up, even in handheld probably since it was shorter than the normal horizontal for 720p. But I'm one where 60 fps looks attractive. But it depends on stability. Fluctuations in frame rate/pacing triggers my motion sickness, which makes for example Bloodborne difficult for me to play, but Dark Souls III on PC (offline) or Nioh on PS4 (wasn't out on PC when I played it) great on performance mode beautifully smooth (and I agree DS should have two modes for those who want 4K/30fps vs upscaled 4K/60 like Nioh and many other Pro/X enhanced games). If that Switch 30 fps is stable, I'd compromise for the option of portability.

I forgot I have XC2. I'm done with the main story and am waiting for patches to fix my gripes before I return to collect more blades. There's a lot of interface stuff that makes that game a slog. The maps were fixed after I finished. The blade management and bonding is still a mess though, so I'm staying away.

I wonder how DOOM would work for me on handheld. I did pick it up on the Steam Autumn Sale and promptly got motion sick. It's a common thing for me with. I think my large TV is a factor so the smaller Switch may help me play it longer. I don't know. Not something I want to risk and test out until that game is on sale.

I agree Telltale games would be good. I'll need to check which ones are on the Switch. I did the first Batman on PS4 since I found a cheap used copy. I think Telltale on consoles are consistently bad in the performance department. I got several instances of graphical glitches and crashes on PS4. Nothing frequent enough that I give up, but annoying because you can't skip straight to the decisions and have to rewatch stuff prior to the crash. No surprise there are issues on the Switch version.

I don't hate Apple. Of course I don't take the word "hate" very lightly, so maybe my meaning doesn't match most people's. I do dislike the direction they are taking with their products.

For their laptops, I've used them for over 10 years. When I first got one, there was some fuss over them ditching legacy ports in favor of DP and USB. Sure DP was annoying when most things at the time were still using VGA so an adapter was needed. But at least at this point USB devices were common. Today, we got the same situation with USB-C ports, but I have yet to buy something I want to connect to a computer that requires USB-C. Mice, external drives, etc. with USB-C plugs don't exist AFAIK. I really don't want another adapter. My latest laptop is a 2014 MBP so I'm okay for now. But once that needs replacement, right now, I don't think I'd go Apple.

Unlike laptops, which have historically been work/student focused for me, desktops are for gaming for me. So yeah, Apple has always been unappealing to me. The non-Pro products won't do, while the Pro products are so expensive and come with Xeons and such that are overkill for my purposes. In addition the newer Pro non-standard design makes GPU upgrades a problem. They don't have a desktop product for gamers.

For phones, I love them. Until they took out the headphone jack. Granted this soon will be a moot point when all phones get rid of it as the trend continues so maybe I'll go back iPhone from Android once there aren't decent Android phones with said jack like my current LG V30.

I'm actually a fan of macOS. Obviously it sucks for gaming, but due to the nature of my job, having a macOS laptop was very useful due to the Unix heritage. However, I've been using Windows 10 Ubuntu subsystem and honestly, I don't think I'd miss macOS too much if I end up getting a Win10 laptop in the future.

So in short, I love Apple's software, but the hardware is driving me away.

If you think AC or MGS has too much stealth, then I don't think TLoU is for you. I feel like I'm more stealthy in TLoU than those other two, even on the easiest difficulty. You're pretty much dead if you're spotted before stealth killing of like say 75% of the enemies in the area first. Unlike AC or MGS, you don't really have much options when spotted. There is survival horror aspects of having very limited supplies. You can't acrobat away to hide like in AC or have the weaponry of MGS. You're just screwed if you get caught by a pack of zombies.

Yeah, I'm not sure how you can tell the difference between the old, no Bluetooth model vs the new Bluetooth model. Obviously controllers come in all kinds of colors so I'll see if can see any other differences when I get home. But online apparently you can tell based on the mold.

EDIT: Check with my controllers and yeah the reddit posts looks true. It may be difficult to spot looking at the picture on the box if you get a pure black controller though. Hopefully something on the box says it has bluetooth.

I think most of the points have been covered. Xbox One S gives you access to

    - Console exclusive games. It's few for Xbox One, but there is an expanding catalog of original Xbox and Xbox 360 games. Both digitally or in physical form. As previous mentioned, you get access to the used game market. Xbox One shines in the legacy department but not so much in new exclusives. The PS4 has the opposite situation of lots of new exclusives but can't play legacy content at all (save for remasters and a few PS2 digital releases).

    - Xbox One has a neat game subscription (Game Pass) that gives you access to a library of games to download and play for a monthly fee. Really good if you haven't already invested in most of the games in the library. Bigger library than EA Origin's Vault, which is the only similar thing I can think of right now on PC. Xbox also has a version of that called EA Access, IIRC, if you want those EA games.

    - If you have friends with an Xbox One, Xbox 360 or to a smaller extent original Xbox, you can borrow games. Something that seems to be discouraged on PC these days of mostly digital only.

    - Digital game purchases on Xbox Live or Windows Store marked with "Play Anywhere" gets you copies of both. I think they all do cloud saves, so in theory you can switch between your two platforms as your mood strikes.

    - 4K content if your PC isn't setup for this and you have a display for this. It has a 4K UHD BD player and apps like Netflix can do 4K. I hear doing 4K Netflix on a PC has a bunch of specific requirements so this could be a cheaper option. The Xbox One X is better in this arena as it has some 4K gaming content (or at least better than 1080p) as well, but it does have a steeper price tag.

    - I like the controller. And the one bundled with the One S (and I presume X) has bluetooth unlike the original Xbox One controller that requires a dongle, so you can use it on your PC too.

I personally have all the modern consoles, save for the Xbox One X, as I already have an Xbox One S and figured it'd be better to put that cash on a GTX 1080, which I did. So for me now, if it is available on PC and supports controller, that's the version I get. Barring horrible port or DRM problems (e.g. Assassin's Creed Origin right now). Yeah, this renders the Xbox One S less useful, as I'd get the PC version now. But still good for 4K UHD BD playback and games via backwards compatibility (only for convenience since it can prevent me from having to dig out the 360 or original Xbox). PS4 Pro is the default for me for console only games. I do like like my Japanese games like Persona 5 and Nioh, though the latter is headed to PC in a few days. The Gust and Falcom JRPGs are regularly on PC too nowadays though, along with the upcoming Ni no Kuni II, so maybe I won't need a PS console if this trend keeps up. I'm not too big on Sony's first party games. And Nintendo, well I love their games, so I always buy into them

I've been enjoying the SNES Classic that I've been thinking of how to get back into PS2 gaming. I was just thinking of getting the network adapter and HDD for my fat PS2 since the lens is dying. It only can read CDs (blue discs) in the vertical position now. Modded PS2 to play backups of my games sounds like the way to keep this thing running without worrying about the lens. How tricky was it to accomplish this? I also see unofficial SATA adapters (not network on those, but doesn't matter at this point) to use modern drives. Not sure how tricky it is to set up the hard drive. It sounded like the modded software on mem card is easier to just buy a premodded one online.

The 3DS/2DS line remains region locked so you'll be restricted to Japanese games if you execute your current plan. You could explore CFW, but you probably should just by the right model in the first place. The Switch is region free if you want to consider a more recent Nintendo device.

My issue with Nintendo digital stores is that purchases are tied your device. Migrating your purchases from one device to another is easy if you have physical access to both. If not (trade in, lost, stolen, etc), you're at the mercy of Nintendo customer service okaying the transfer. But sounds like since you have to deal with importing and associated taxes for physical releases otherwise, I guess digitally is still the less painful way to go.

I actually did the opposite a few weeks ago, went iPhone 6s to LG V30. From a non-power user perspective (I didn't jailbreak the 6s; using LG stock launcher on V30 etc.), I don't see much difference in terms of software. Both are screens of tiny app icons and I'm basically using the same apps as I did on iOS haha I do like the always on OLED (well the OLED in general), a rear fingerprint scanner, better DAC, and dual camera. So it is an upgrade on the hardware front for me. I didn't stick with Apple to get headphone jack, but with the way things are trending I'll probably need to go wireless on my next upgrade.

The only thing I miss is a properly functioning Apple Music app. It often hangs my V30. So I know keep a local library for when I'm fed up with Apple! I probably will switch to Play or Spotify once the remaining months of my Apple Music sub is up. Maybe. Apple Music seems to be the best for the type of music I tend to listen to, but Spotify seems close. Silly exclusive music contracts.

You may run into it in your situation: mixed HD and 4K inputs on the switch. Switching from HD source --> HD source works fine. Switching HD --> 4K is fine. But once you're in 4K, switching to a 4K --> HD leaves me with a blank screen. So I ended up using two separate HDMI switches on different HDMI ports on the display, one for 4K and one for HD inputs. Now my bottleneck isn't HDMI ports. It's power plugs. I can't actually power that many devices haha

DSi: An updated DS but drops the GBA cart port.
3DS: Plays 3DS and DS games
2DS: Plays 3DS (no 3D option) and DS games. No XL version; has a flat no hinge design)
New 3DS: Plays 3DS and DS games. Plus one or two exclusives.
New 2DS: Same as New 3DS, just without the 3D. Only in XL size? Has hinge unlike the not "new" version.

I have "old" 3DS XL. I'd like to get a New 2DS XL just because it is lighter and I don't care for 3D, but I probably won't since there's other priorities with my money. I personal don't find these handhelds comfortable to play on stock. You can get grips for them that make them more like modern controllers. Not great for portability but useful when you intend to have a long session at home. Bear in mind grips are specific to each DS model due to varying dimensions, so be mindful of what you buy.

My big apple to android switch was from an iPod 4 to An old HTC junker. And that was back when I just ripped all my music from YouTube or downloaded from Bandcamp.
