Some laptops do have 5 or more hours battery life but require some stretch

    Dell G7 7590 / G5 5590 with 9300H+1650
Lenovo Legion Y540 customize (300 nits)
    Lenovo Legion Y545 customize / 81T20005US

Upgrade RAM and SSD by yourself if needed - usually cost is lower

Agreed. Apple's hatred of the independent repair community is nothing but shameful. What's happened with your wife's MBP?

Oh I don't disagree at all. I think it's a needed kick. I'm just on the pessimistic side and doubt it will really change anything unless these lawsuits multiply. (And I hope they do.)

Where are you from? Mind low sRGB display? No preference on weight?

Prefer regular laptop or gaming laptop?

I would see how much the system (or a comparable one) would be brand new today and knock off 10%. If there's no interest, lower it another 10%, rinse, repeat until it's sold.

Where are you located? Sometimes things can vary in different markets.

Around my neck of the woods that would probably sell for around 700-800 CAD I would say.

I would say about £400-450 would be fair I would advertise about £500 and go from there though

I'm no expert at pricing, but as a normal consumer, I would expect a fair price to be around... 650-700 CAD maybe. Convert that to your local currency. A good way to check is to look at other local postings in your area and use those as a ballpark.

What sort of upload-bandwidth do you have? You could switch OBS to encode using NVENC instead of x264, which would do the encoding on the GPU itself and thus help a lot, but you should then maybe up your bitrate somewhat.

Yes I would 100% recommend upgrading to a 6700k or 7700k so you can keep motherboard or you can lower the quality of encoding I know obs has tones of options on how fast it will encode the frames you can go slower for it to be lower quality but less cpu intensive.

    buy a used i7 6700K or the i7 7700K

because streaming does indeed use a lot more of the CPU than the GPU

the GPU could also do an upgrade to the GTX 1070

The cheapest wat to target the problem would be upgrading to an i7 6700k, overclock it and selling your old cpu. If you really wanted, you could sell your cpu + motherboard and get a Ryzen system (if you were serious about streaming and if you wanted  to use cpu encoding, which is superior in quality when compared to nvenc or Intel quicksync),  but the most cost-effective way is to buy a first gen skylake overclockable i7 (not the i7 7700k, it's to expensive and you won't get your money worth)

Before you spend a single dollar on new equipment, I recommend you try using NVENC. It's the dedicated video encoding engine that's inside our GTX 980.
It should be in the encoder setting page. Just switch it from x264 to NVENC.

I'd just use the hardware encoding from the recording chip on the 960... Not as good as good CPU encoding, but really good for performance, or else just get a better CPU yes.

Just because it's not officially supported doesn't mean it wouldn't POST. It could just be unstable for all we know.

Anytime you buy a prebuilt machine, make sure you're considering a company's support.

If you have a hardware failure, do you have to send it off to a depot for warranty service or is there an option to have a tech come to you?

That's an important consideration for me. I don't want to have a machine out of commission for two weeks.

Dell has onsite warranty service available. I don't know about the other.
