Lare111 got a reaction from roomlizzard in Using Thermal Grizzly Carbonaut for GPU?
I have RX 6950 XT Red Devil which has severe pump-out issues. I've tried different thermal pastes (currently using Thermalright TFX), different amounts and different spread methods. At first I get great temps but then Edge temperature starts to creep up and suddenly I hit +80C degrees instantly. Yesterday I had to repaste it again and Edge dropped from 82C to 69C and all the corners of the die were dry even though I had spread the paste everywhere.

I ordered Thermal Grizzly Carbonaut pad for the GPU. Has anyone here used it? At least Carbonaut wont pump out and I don't mind if I get couple degrees higher temps than with paste. Honeywell PTM7950 is not available in my country.

Hi! I failed the install with Kryosheet. However, I replaced thermal pads, thermal paste (again) and installed 0.5mm washers. Temps have been very solid.

It's probably your 8GB RAM. Your games run smooth until RAM fills up. 16GB is the minimum for modern games nowadays. I would also upgrade CPU and motherboard too. The i5 4440 is a weak 4 core 4 thread CPU and even the cheapest 12th gen Intel i3 is much faster. There's no point in buying more DDR3 RAM anymore.

Lare111 got a reaction from DoctorNick in Higher case fan speed = higher GPU temperatures
GPU was hitting the 216W power limit constantly during the paused benchmark so it can't really produce any more heat. Clock speed was pretty stable 1935Mhz.

I'm still running tests and no matter how slow I run the upper front fan, it always increases GPU temps. That's just so weird.

Upgrading to 19.12.2 gave me around 4-5% performance increase on my RX 5700. The new AMD Control panel is so much easier to use and Watch Dogs 2 is finally playable since it stuttered very bad before. Now I'm running 19.12.3 and no issues so far.

My PSU is pretty high quality Corsair RM550x. However I think I will choose RX 5700 non-XT since it will produce less heat and noise.
I'm targeting +60FPS. Freesync helps with minor FPS drops but to be honest I'd rather choose 70FPS with DXR off than 50FPS with DXR.

I will choose RX 5700 and wait for better ray tracing support and performance in the future. I don't want to pay for an expensive feature which I can't use. Sapphire Pulse has a great cooler and I think it can run AAA-games 1080p60 ultra easily for couple years.

Lare111 got a reaction from Damascus in Are the cheaper models of the 1070 bad?
Asus Dual is pretty crappy. It has a small heatsink with only two heatpipes. It's better than reference coolers but it was too hot and loud for my taste. I had to undervolt it to 0,925V.

Luckily it broke down and I paid 100€ to get Strix 1070 as a replacement. It's runs so much cooler and it's also quiet. My fan curve doesn't allow it to go over 65 C (62C without side panel) and fans won't go over 1450 RPM. I think it could be dead silent with a fun curve that allows something like 75 C but it's still quiet enough now. I also like the backplate and RGB-leds.

However if someone doesn't care how noisy and hot GPU is under load cheaper models are good choice. In my case extra 100€ for better cooler is totally worth it but for someone it's waste of money.

That's weird considering that you already replaced thermal paste. I've had two 1070 Strixs, previous ran at 68°C and current at 65°C with side panel closed and both were overclocked and have quiet fan curves. Without side panel my current Strix won't go over 62°C. If you haven't removed the warranty sticker I would RMA it.

My PC with i7 6700 + OC'd 1070 + 2 x SSDs and 1xHDD consumes about 200-270W while gaming and 280-290W when running Intel Burn Test and Furmark simultaneously. 400W PSU is enough as long as it's good quality.

    No it's not. I have a GTX 1070 and 1080p60hz monitor. I also had a 1060 6GB but I sold it.

In new demanding games like Dishonored 2, Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Watch Dogs 2 I have to lower settings to get stable 60FPS. Some older games can also be too demanding if I use heavy anti-aliasing like MSAA or SSAA.

    I have an i7 6700 and without hyper-threading it's equivalent to i5 6600. I also have a GTX 1070.

Without HT I get almost constant 100% CPU usage in Watch Dogs 2 and pretty bad FPS drops. GTA V and The Witcher 3 are also pretty CPU intensive and there is some stuttering. I haven't tried other games without HT. Enabling hyper-threading gives me very nice performance boost (+30-40%) and FPS drops and stutters are gone. I recommend you to get a 6700 or 7700 if you want to get stable 60 FPS in new games.

Even with i7 I still have some minor CPU bottlenecking if I disable VSync. Especially Watch Dogs 2, Ghost Recon: Wildlands and BF1 Multiplayer are very CPU intensive but I have a 60Hz monitor so there isn't really a problem because I usually play with VSync on or FPS limiter.

Lare111 got a reaction from i_build_nanosuits in Is the i5 still enough? Bottlenecking explained with an RX-480.
I tried to play Watch Dogs 2 without hyper threading and there was way too much stuttering. Constant 60FPS was impossible in populated areas and I had 100% CPU usage. Even with hyper threading enabled I still get 90-100% CPU usage on my i7 6700 and I'm getting some bottlenecking. Ghost Recon: Wildlands with the same engine is also pretty CPU intensive.

Then I tried to play Witcher 3 without hyper threading and I got stuttering in Novigrad. In GTA V and BF1 MP I also had constant 100% CPU usage.

    So if you wan't constant 60FPS I'd say i5 isn't enough.

I'm very happy with my Gigabyte G1 Gaming 2.0 1060. Core speed is stable at 2101Mhz but I was able to push memory up to 9650Mhz and it's completely stable. 9700Mhz crashes in Firestrike. Due to low memory bandwith 1060s seems to benefit noticeable from high memory overclocks. This card is also very quiet
