I wouldn't spend  your entire savings on a PC, that's an absolutely horrible use of the money.
If you're budget constricted, buy used parts from eBay. You can get a computer just as good as your $3,000 budget for well under $1,000 with some waiting and sniping auctions. The build you have linked is a mismash of ancient parts and things I wouldn't bother buying at any price.

Depends what pricing and the used market is like where you live. You'd have to do a fair amount of research to figure that all out.
Or, see how much it'd cost to get them imported...see below.
You can, however then you have to pay:
Shipping Duty Tax Brokerage So it's not a 1:1 value no matter how you get the parts.

future proof really isnt a thing in pc building, but to that notion all of these builds should be powerful enough to not need upgrading for a while.

the 13th gen intel build is the newest of them all, but in terms of relative power
    1. Ryzen build
    2. Intel i5 11th gen build
    3. intel i3 13th gen build
i also definitely agree with this. our markets are quite different and we will have different access to stores. besides ive found much better budget options going with the used market than buying brand new.

There isn't a single part of the resolution that is 2000. If anything 2.5k would make sense, but it's people trying to use a naming system not meant for the resolution.
    It's because actual 4k is 4096 x 2160.

You're looking at the wrong numbers. Look at the horizontal, not the vertical.
Also, I've never seen anyone call 1080p 1.5k, and 1440p being called 2k is ridiculous.

dizmo reacted to YoungBlade in Why is 2160p 4K
1080p is actually 2K - the official 2K resolution used in movie theaters is 2048x1080. The 16:9 aspect ratio used in consumer displays knocks down the horizontal resolution to 1920, but 1920x1080 is still the closest resolution to 2K.

1440p is based upon the 720p standard for HD, and isn't derived from a cinema resolution like 1080p or 4K, so isn't part of the "K" naming scheme.

Haha, yeah it isn't really as much of a thing in NA. It's far less hassle just to pay for the roaming when you go down to the US.
I've never looked into travel data packages abroad, so I can't really comment on those. NA phones don't have multiple SIMs.
Chinese phones are a horrible choice for NA as the huge majority are catered to
If you're travelling to the US it's usually easier just to pay for the roaming package, and depending on your phone, it won't fully (or at all) work in a lot of Europe anyway. I get the idea, it just doesn't pan out in most cases and you could be massively overspending and getting less than you otherwise could. Which is very common in Canada.
Motorola is a Chinese brand 😉

Seems like there's been a huge upturning of the tech reviewer scene lately. Guess they're trying to remain relevant so people don't forget about them during the recession. I find it funny that Jay just kept his head down and didn't chime in...though, most of his videos lately have just been rants. I feel he's lost the love.

The UPS is more meant to safely shut down your PC once you realize the power is out, not to run off of it.
The UPS doesn't power the PC, but acts as backup power when the mains lose power.

As a point of clarification, a UPS can be used to given enough time to gracefully power down the PC. Higher quality UPS will communicate with machines connected to it and report on it's capacity. For example, my unRAID server is configured to gracefully power itself off once my UPS loses AC power and battery capacity goes below 70%. This allows some time for very brief power outages where the server can remain up, while also ensuring the array spins down appropriately and without corruption. when the power is out for an extended period of time.

I'm not an expert by any means, but a UPS is a temporary means of powering hardware to safely shut it down, like mentioned above. My router, modem, and FreeNAS server are all attached to my UPS's outlets that are connected to the battery, so when power goes out, they'll still be operational for a time. The FreeNAS server is connected through a USB port to my UPS, and it's configured so as soon as power goes out, the server shuts itself down.

Typically a UPS will provide surge protection, just like a traditional surge protector, and usually in the same way. UPS units can also be configured such that the battery is always being pulled from and recharged, or once power goes out, the UPS will switch to battery power. The former is faster and reduces the chance of components shutting down.

My UPS unit is a Cyerpower CP1500AVRLCD, which as the model name suggests, has AVR(Automatic Voltage Regulation). The unit, if the voltage would drop below nominal will bring the voltage back up, by either pulling more current, or using the battery as supplemental. The same thing will happen if the voltage is too high, but inverse, aside from the battery aspect.

One other aspect is how power is converted once either AVR is used, or power goes out. Since the battery stores energy as DC, and our appliances require AC, the voltage must be converted back to AC, which will be either in the form of a Pure Sine wave, or a Simulated Sine wave. Pure sine waves will have a very consistent oscillation as would be expected from your wall outlet, whereas the simulated sinewave will have more steps present in it, which makes it harder on your appliances. If you barely need to use yours, it's probably fine to use a simulated sine wave, but if you use it frequently, getting one that uses a pure sinewave will be easier on your components. My particular UPS uses a simulated sine wave.

Interesting, though I imagine sometimes he's a little frazzled and he might have posted that at a low time. If it happened frequently, then I'd see it as more of an issue. Do you have that post saved? It's from almost 2 years ago. Sometimes you need to let things go 😉 (not saying that as a shot, but if it still gets to you, it's not good for mental health).
I mean you can't really base an entire persons personality on a post they made.
You know, come to think of it that's probably when I really stopped watching most of their videos as well. It seems to have just gone downhill from there, for me at least.
Haha, yeah. I think their HR department is mostly fine, but they definitely need to control their outward image a bit better...aka control Linus. There's things you can get away with as a small company that really don't fly as you grow larger.
Haha yeah, the haters of the merch is the funniest thing for me. If you don't like what it costs, don't buy it; there's no need to be butt hurt about it.
I doubt they'll fully talk about the Madison stuff, both for the reason of it being no one's business but theirs, but more importantly the legal ramifications that can come from it.
The fact it was overpriced in his eyes wasn't the entire issue though, it was actually a very small part. The bigger issue by far was that they tested it on something it wasn't designed for in the first place, and based decisions on that. Which is incredibly irresponsible for someone in their position.
I agree with most of what you said at some level, however I think if you've been running a company for well over a decade you lose the right to hide behind the "I've got so much on my plate!!" When you're that big, if you're deciding tons of little things then you've structured your company incorrectly, or you're penny pinching and need to invest in the staffing levels required to run said company efficiently. LTT stacks on staff like it's making a pancake challenge. The decision not to retest is inexcusable, it's his responsibility to maintain the integrity of his company and he failed to do that. Period.
Yeah the fanbois and haters always come out hardest during times like these. I swear most of them just love the drama.
The death threats and messaging of LTT staff is unacceptable though...I imagine that's mostly done by teens or youngin's that really don't know better.
Bad excuse? Yup, but when you make videos like LTT the kiddos and meme lords are bound to be attracted.

I don't think the Noctuas are particularly quiet, though I haven't really looked at any fan reviews lately so I'm not the best source. Check out Hardware Canucks, they do superb fan shootouts; on par with something you'd see from GamersNexus, but you won't fall asleep halfway through the video.

I personally went with Arctic F12s (I think, I can check later) on my EVGA AIO, and it was a night and day difference. Went from a jet fighter taking off to me wondering if my PC is even on half the time. They're also 1/4 of the price of the Noctua units, if not less.

So with all the drama lately, I just have one question: Has all of this changed your view on LTT at all?
I'll even break it down further to Linus vs LTT as a whole, since they're really two separate things.

Personally, I was initially extremely annoyed with what happened. Both with Linus's reaction, and the fact it happened at all (LTT failing). Now I'm not as annoyed as much, however when you really look into all the things that go wrong, or they try to get a pass on...they really do need a lot of work. Something not brought up that I always thought was pretty weak was their support taking forever on the LTT Store. They said they had high volumes for months...sorry fam, after a few months if it's ongoing, it's just you not having enough people in place.

It's all part of the growing pains of a business I'm sure, but there's a lot to fix. Good will and good intentions only go so far. I'm excited to see where LTT goes in the next few years, but honestly I doubt I'll see them as a GN, HardwareUnboxed, or similar channel; they'll always be the gamer bro, sexual innuendo, over the top almost pointless project entertainment channel they've grown into. Luckily tech moves fast and there's a whole new generation of people for them to try and pivot to.

Mods, yes I read the little notice before posting this, however I can't put a poll in the middle of an existing thread (to my knowledge).
