i wish. ever seen this happen in an endless loop ? do updates, fail, restart, revert updates, restart, do updates, fail, restart, revert updates, restart...

my ratio is that i had more trouble with windows upates (among other things) than i had with linux package dependencies.

programs from the built in software manager or default repositories always installed right away without trouble.

oh shit ... so miners added harddrives to their list now. ok ... i guess that means no harddrives for gamers in 2018.

whats next? mining on soundcards ?

KenjiUmino got a reaction from paddy-stone in Internet not working anywhere near rated speed?
did you run a speedtest? downloading games depends on a lot of factors. it could be a bandwidth limit from the download server, busy download servers and whatnot.

also keep in mind that download clients may show megaBYTES per second instead of megaBITS per second (5 megabytes = 40 megabits)

steam can be switched between one and the other

KenjiUmino got a reaction from Tosa in HUGE 'size' to 'size on disk' difference
very small files maybe ? what's the cluster size on this drive?
AFAIK, the cluster size is the smallest "unit" that a single file can occupy on the disk.

like if you have a cluster size of 4kb but a ton of 2-3kb files, each of these files will take no less than 4kb of physical space on the disk.

if you were to copy these small files from a drive with 4kb clusters to another drive with 8kb clusters the amount of wasted space increases drastically

Thunderbolt 2 is about half the speed of TB3,so do expect some performance degradation, especially with higher-end GPUs

    Any kind with flex mode.

OP, you should be able to put the 8GB stick in one channel and the two 4GB sticks in the other, so the full 16GB are in dual channel.

What  on Earth did you do to your settings.
I understand what you're trying to do, and it should have taken only a few seconds and a few clicks. I do it with all of my Windows setups.
I'm not sure what the photo is trying to show, but you don't need Windows Disk Management to do any of this.

KenjiUmino got a reaction from Hiitchy in Which encoder should I use for twitch/YouTube livestream
obs is the best free software for streaming IMO.

what video encoder to use can be a bit confusing but not too complicated:
intel quick sync video (QSV) - uses the iGPU hardware to encode video. worst quality but minimal performance impact.  NVENC or AMD Video Coding Engine (VCE) - uses dGPU hardware to encode video. better quality than QSV but still not great in high motion scenes at the lower bitrates usually needed for streaming. minimal performance impact. x264 - uses CPU to encode video. best quality at low bitrates but can impact overall system performance a lot because the CPU has to do everything.  use x264 if you can but if you get problems with stuttering or low FPS and such either turn down the x264 preset (fast > faster > veryfast) and if that is still not enough then use your GPU encoder instead.

Depends on your usage, resolution and personal preference. If 1080p, I would advise sticking to 24" as I find 27" a bit too big for 1080p.

If you can get it for that $150, it might be worth it for a cheap upgrade path to a 4770k later. Which would definitely outperform the Ryzen 3.
