There's no 4590k CPU, there is the 4690k though if that's what you meant.

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-3-1200/2432vs3931

That puts it handedly above the Ryzen 3 (oc or non-oc) and if the ebay prices of the CPUs are anything to go off of, that's a difference of $30~ish. $180 would probably be a good price if it's the 4690k. $200 isn't unreasonable for that bundle, but $180 is what I would personally bargain for a kit like that.

Hi,

My friend recently upgraded his computer. I've wanted to build a PC for myself for a long time and he offered to sell me his old mobo, RAM, and CPU. The specs are:

i5-4590

MSI Z97 Krait/SLI

8GB DDR3 (not sure what speed)

He's asking $200 for it. I've looked online and this seems like a good price for the whole package. I'm thinking about buying but I just want to consult here just to be sure... am I getting ripped off or is this a good price?

USD? CAD? AUD? NZD?

It's...meh. I mean it's not terrible, but it's not great. I got the same kit but with an Evo 212 cooler for $140 Canadian.

If RAM prices were normal it would be a rip-off.

How about:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 3 1200 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($99.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock - AB350M Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Crucial - Ballistix Sport LT 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory  ($85.49 @ Adorama)
Total: $245.47
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2018-01-20 20:54 EST-0500

For 45$ more you can get a newer gen, overclockable CPU, DDR4 2666MHz RAM, and a new motherboard. All with warranty.

Your friend's "deal" is not worth it imo (and it's not a really friendly price either tbf).

CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 Black Mobo: Gigabyte X870E Aorus Pro GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ 9070 XT RAM: G.Skill 2x16GB @ 6400 MHz SSD: PNY XLR8 2TB PSU: Corsair RM1000x Case: Fractal Design North Monitor 1: Asus XG27AQWMG(280Hz) Monitor 2: Asus VG259QM (240Hz)

sorry forgot to mention its USD...

also yeah that is a good deal but I'm on a super tight budget.. if I was to ask for a better deal, how much would make those parts worth it?

Personally I wouldn't go over $150. But it's up to you.

If you can get it for that $150, it might be worth it for a cheap upgrade path to a 4770k later. Which would definitely outperform the Ryzen 3.
