MisterZero got a reaction from Birblover12 in Only YOU can fix GPU pricing... Here's how!
On a somewhat related note to GPU pricing, I have a question for the labs team and I guess also our favorite CVO.

Will the labs' data on GPU performance also include a performance per watt metric?

While I do understand that such metrics are difficult to exactly represent, having a measurement of power draw for the test benches during MarkBench runs would be great. Many places around the globe unfortunately live nowhere near BC-Hydro and can't get almost free electricity like LMG, while in some cases it may still result in acceptable energy prices, many parts of the world have seen energy prices soar over the last 18 months.
For me and my buddies in the EU, the prices which already weren't too great have started to make us question whether we would really like to buy the latest and greatest GPUs because of power consumption concerns.

I foresee a future in which I could target a performance range within which I could then choose the most efficient card. While for some people this might not be super useful or important, I would really like to go back in power draw but I am unsure how the manufacturer TDP and performance claims compare to real world usage.

I hope something like this either already is or could be added on the roadmap for MarkBench :)

We have a really cool piece of content coming (not something that was part of the arrangement with NVIDIA, but we found an unexpected use for the Titan X cards) about video encoding and content creation workflows. Stay tuned.

And yes.. Dennis built his editing workstation.. It was terrifying.. Stay tuned. That video is going to rock - whether it was "sponsored" or not.. It's not an editorial piece, so I don't think it matters.

The truth of the matter is that whether people like it and think we deserve it or not, we have a large audience and lots of influence (something I don't take for granted, and work very hard to maintain) and if I ask for handful of video cards from pretty much anyone to feature them in a video they will provide them.

I chose NVIDIA cards and sent them a proposal because that was what I wanted in our editing workstations. I didn't receive an offer from NVIDIA, then, having no other options HAVE to go with them. They were my first choice.

So many assumptions get made about how desperate we are for a video card or a phone or whatever. We don't care.. Unless it's really cool.. in which case, we do care, and we talk about how cool it is BECAUSE WE THINK IT'S COOL!

A lot of assumptions being made here.
We don't take money to do reviews. We never have.
We take money to do advertisements, which are never labeled as reviews.
NVIDIA provided the graphics cards (and Cooler Master sent cases and coolers, ASUS sent motherboards, Intel sent CPUs, Kingston sent SSDs and RAM, Swiftech sent water cooling gear) for our editing workstations for product placement in the whole room water cooling series of videos we produced featuring this hardware extensively.
In the grand scheme of things, $6000 of graphics cards (don't imagine that's their BOM cost on them either) is a great deal for 1-2M impressions on a series of videos about using them.. but those videos were NOT a review. They were about a clearly sponsored (we said it was more than once) outrageous project.
As for sending "keeper" vs "loaner" units of hardware, yeah for many products we just don't do loaners anymore, but more than anything else this is to do with me not feeling like it's worth my time to play email tag for shipping labels and spend an hour driving to FedEX and filling out stupid international bill of landing and commercial invoice nonsense over like a $100 item that costs more to send back than to just not bother with anyway.
That and quite frankly even a negative review (for some reason) often generates a lot of sales for the manufacturer.. so as far as I'm concerned they can eat the cost of the item and I'll do whatever I want with it when we're done reviewing it - whether that's continuing to use it personally (Pebble Steel and iPhone 6 come to mind) - or re-visiting it only when we need to re-do our comparative numbers (here's a lesson on why this is necessary and we can't just re-use old numbers)
And on the subject of the Pebble and iPhone 6 - these are both items that were NOT provided by the manufacturer. One was purchased for my own use and the other was provided by a separate sponsor who makes skins for phones (dBrand), but I didn't necessarily mention this at the time because who cares? It doesn't colour my impressions of the device.
Here's an item I wasn't allowed to keep and won one of the two editor's choice awards I've ever given out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1uj6wQTu58
Here's an item was allowed to keep that I ripped apart saying it was worse across the board than the two similar products from other manufacturers that I compared it against: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O1aCNrjV64
Here's an item I was allowed to keep that I basically ripped apart on camera and sent it back anyway because it had so little value to me I didn't even want to give it to a friend: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3AgcltUM9s
And I could do this all day..
You may notice that most of the items we review we are fairly positive about. There is a reason for this, and it has nothing to do with being paid to review it.
I don't generally bother to review stuff that I already know is stupid junk.
The bottom line is this. You can either trust me or not trust me. Ultimately that's your deal. My job is to do what I do, and the people who recognize it for what it is - my opinion being given to you - will follow, and the others can go find someone who maybe they think "hasn't sold out" but might just "happen to agree with them" to listen to. Enjoy.

    TL;DR
This is a long ass post about people getting paid to review shit or keep said shit after a review... And how the FCC is cracking down on some stuff which somehow affects Linus and his group over in Canada... Or something along those lines anyway...

The bottom line is, if they mention that stuff, then they mention it, if not, they don't. Don't trust LMG's reviews? Don't count them as credible reviews, same applies to any other reviewer.

MisterZero got a reaction from RazeG3SG1 in America’s best-selling cars and trucks are built on lies
I have been driven around by my uncle in a 2012 Mercedes CLS 500 and I must say the engine despite being a huge 5L V8 does not sound very loud, it sounds like a V8 sure, but it's far from being something I would call an amplified engine sound. Certainly not after having been inside a 2013 Mercedes E-class 320CDI (3.2L I6 diesel) which was completely silent most of the time and you could hear a tiny bit of engine noise that didn't sound great when reving.

I absolutely don't understand, why you would want a more "powerful sound" in your car... Even having a powerful car, if you do not enjoy a track-day every once in a while, it does not make any sense... I have driven a VW Polo, the one with the 1L, 3 cylinder engine, it's brilliant, it masterpiece of a car, it's near silent, it has amazing gas mileage, and you know what you can overtake trucks on roads without problems best part is that it has 60HP, it sure is nothing but why would you need more than that on public roads?

Lamborghini, Ferrari, Mustang, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger, Viper, Corvette, Mercedes AMG, and all the other big engined "sports" cars don't make any sense... Yes they are beautiful, yes they are meant for the people that have too much money (just so they have something to spend their money on), and also yes they are great on a track day, but why do we see so f-ing much of those in the London city center, in Monaco, in Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris where there aren't any advantages to owning such a wide, unpractical and very thirsty cars...

    /rant

Sorry even as I enjoy big and powerful cars because... well they exist it still bothers me... AND, I hope someone here agrees with me that we would be better off without these (and the idiotic Dubai people that buy them of course, no offense but really, a Golf course in the middle of the desert... Best f-ing way to preserve the planet)
