Pc Noob reacted to mosin40 in IB tips and tricks for survival (the newbie guide)
Hi LTT community since I'm doing the IB diploma, i'm gonna post this for you, if you're still in school and it offers the IB, then this will come in handy:
How to survive the IB*
Step 1: The Greatest Decision before University or College
Decide whether you want to be in the IB. If not, lucky you. If yes, let the games begin.
Step 2: Don’t freak out!
Never mind, you’ll always do it, but there is a solution: be organized and also sleeping well.
Step 3: Organize yourself
Make an agenda, schedule, checklist, or whatever it comes into your mind to organize your stuff, works, etc. Planning is a key to survive, seriously “Just do it.” (Nike). If you didn’t finish what you’ve planned don’t worry, be happy, just continue your work on the next day, and please don’t stay overnight trying to finish it, just don’t.
Step 4: Never ever say: “I’ll do it tomorrow”, in other words procrastinate.
Seriously just do your work the day it is given to you. PLEASE, don’t do it the day before the deadline, ‘cause you’re going to have a bad time, also the stress will be damn too high on that day, unless you’re a professional procrastinator.
Step 5: Sleep well and eat healthy
Having a balanced diet is what you need, because you need a happy stomach for a happy brain, so you can think and concentrate better. Also sleep well, just avoid staying overnight, just don’t do it because you are going to be exhausted on the following day and if you have to do homework that day, you lose, please try to sleep at least 8 hours. (You snooze, you lose). Don’t think that I’m a jerk, if you don’t do it, karma is going to strike when you’re in class.
Step 10, wait I mean step 6: Hand in all your work on time
Seriously, should I tell you this?? Never mind, I’ll just do it for IB’s sake, so if you do not hand in any work, I’ll just say: No IB diploma for you guys :’(
Step 7: No plagiarism
I shouldn’t tell you this, you should know that plagiarism is considered ‘Illegal’ of IB students, so please don’t copy and paste everything you find on the internet, unless you’re quoting and citing the data.
You are cheating, and copying what is not yours, but a lot. (For nerds, geeks, or frikis: Hack) It is not yours (the information) No diploma…
Step 8: TOK
This by far may be the nightmare of most IB students. Some might like it, but for others is just a jump off the cliff. No more words to say about this.
Step 9: CAS
For some may be the best thing of the IB, for others is just a ‘meh’. The cons of this is the CAS diary, a boring place where you record every project or activity done in the 2 years of the IB.
Step 10: Did I just said 10??
There is no more to say, oops, I forgot something, when you chose to do IB, you need to choose 3 subjects in HL and 3 in SL, be intelligent picking, once done, and there is no comeback, this also includes the subject you're choosing for the Extended Essay
THE END
And good luck to all of you who is going to be in the IB program
*This guide is not intended for procrastinators and/or lazy people
Hope you like it

Pc Noob reacted to Slick in Why isn't there a section for MAC?
Then don't buy them. I'm not trying to make you buy one... I have never owned an Apple product other than ear pods which were given to me for free(no, not even an old school ipod... I had a Creative Zen). Apple is a leader in build quality and they have shown more than once that many companies(in certain sectors) will be happy to produce sub-par products unless there is a quality front runner. Competition is good!
Then there are the people that simply want Mac OS - Again... this is not for either of us - but there are people out there that like the feel, the design, the hand holding style, etc... it doesn't matter if you can't justify it for yourself, it's not for you
I could go on but I hope you are able to understand at this point and I'd rather get back to other things

The Build
Really like the UV effect with blue lighting
Can't really decide if it looks better with blue or white lighting, so I just switch between them.

I haven't had the chance to do any benchmarks coz uni started but I did overclock the CPU and ran prime95 for a few hours. The 3770K is at 4.7GHz at 1.29v and I'm pretty happy with that. And both graphics cards are at stock as I haven't had time to fiddle with them and I really don't need to as I get stable 60fps and over in all games maxed out at 1080p so I really don't see the need to overclock my graphics cards yet, maybe if I decide to upgrade to a higher resolution monitor but I'm gonna wait to see how G-Sync plays out and maybe upgrade later in the year.
Now for the temps but please keep in mind that it's really hot in Queensland here where I live and its always around 30 - 35 degrees Celsius in my room during the day.
All of the following temps are with a 30 degrees Celsius ambient temperature.
The overclocked CPU at 4.7GHz 1.29v sits about 6 to 8 degrees above ambient on idle and hovers between 70 and 75 when gaming in games like battlefield 4, when I ran prime95 for a few hours the hottest core had 86 degrees.
The graphics cards sit 2 to 3 degrees above ambient on idle and 40 to 45 when gaming.
All in all I'm pretty happy with the temps as around 70 to 75 degrees when gaming on a hot day is all good with me. And I really don't see a bump in temps even when its 35 degrees in my room, although I can't really game at that temperature as it's way too hot for me then lol. And its like this 8 months out of the year, so I usually game in the evening when its around 28 to 30. I'm anxiously awaiting winter here haha.
I'll try to upload some screenshots of the overclocks, temps and some benchmarks when I have time in the future.
Hope you've enjoyed my build log and like how my build turned out !!!

Pc Noob reacted to ciobanulx in Fractal Design ARC Mini R2 Green UV, Watercooled, Rigid Tubing (Completed)
Hi everyone,
This is the completed build, more photos on the last page.
Specs:
Fractal Design ARC Mini R2 (Case)
Asus Maximus V Gene (Motherboard)
i7 3770K (CPU)
2 x EVGA GTX 670s (Graphics Cards)
16GB (4 x 4GB) Corsair Dominator GT 2133MHz C9 (Memory)
120GB Corsair Force GT (SSD)
1TB 2.5" drive from a random external hdd that I had
Corsair AX860 (Power Supply)
Cooling:
7 x Gelid Wing 12PL Silent 120mm PWM Fans UV Green all with 7V adapters
Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 Full Copper Radiator 360 in the top with 3 fans in push
Alphacool NexXxoS UT60 Full Copper Radiator 240 in the front with 4 fans in push/pull
EK Supremacy CPU Block Nickel Plexi CSQ Design
EK Monarch X4 Dominator GT Waterblock Nickel Plexi CSQ Design
EK-Mosfet Asus M5G Waterblock Copper Acetal CSQ Design, could not find Nickel Plexi version
2 x EK GTX 670 Waterblock CSQ Design one is Nickel Acetal and one is Nickel Plexi, both CSQ Design with backplates
EK FC Bridge Dual Parallel Clear Plexi CSQ Design
Laing DDC Pump
Bitspower DDC Pump Top Full Acrylic
Bitspower Water Tank Z-Multi 250
Various Bitspower angle and extension fittings mat black
Primochill Ghost Green Rigid Compression Fittings
Primochill Clear Rigid Acrylic Tube
Mayhems X1 Emerald Green UV Coolant
I also bought the Monsoon 13mm Full Bending Kit which is a really good kit for rigid tube bending. Took me about 6 hours to measure, bend and install all my tubes and this is my first time using and bending rigid tubing. Really good bending kit from Monsoon.
Also Phobya 60cm RGB LED Flexlight with controller for lighting
Not the most extreme specs according to today's standards, I'm just a uni student, however this build is more than enough to play any game at max at 1080p so I'm happy with that. The parts where bought from various stores in Australia and US, including PC Case Gear, The Koolroom, GAMMods, PerformancePCs, Frozen CPU and the 3770k and dominator memory I scored a real good deal on ebay, also the motherboard was purchased from Gumtree.
I have polished all EK plexi waterblocks that I have, used 1500 grit wet sand paper and meguiras ultimate compound polish.
Overview of the case:
Stripped the whole case apart, removed all drive cages, 5.25" bays, and most of the front panel cables, was left with only the power and reset switch
Got a small piece of very thin metal cut to size, cost me $5 lol, I mounted it into the case to mask the area next to the motherboard to help me better with cable management. Used the screw holes that where holding the drive cages
Used some foam to cover up the front panel usb holes, mainly took it out because I don't like the thick cable and didn't see much use to it
Motherboard overview

Power Supply:
Graphics Cards after taking them out of my old build
The tube there used to be clear... wait till you see what was inside the blocks
EK GTX 670 Nickel Acetal block after about 6 months of Mayhems X1 Blood Red
After cleaning with a toothbrush and some toothpaste, I reckon it came out pretty good
For some reason the other block came out much better and was not even that dirty
Polished the plexi top
Both GTX 670s with clean waterblocks installed
Gelid fans with detachable blade. Really like the look of these fans. They all came with white LEDs but I decided to cut them out as I think it ruins the UV effect of the fan blades. I know I could of purchased the ones without the LEDs but these were on special at The Koolroom and got them for $9 each and they were the only ones available. Only left the white LEDs on the 2 fans that will be seen through the front mesh
Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 Full Copper Radiator 360. This is a 30mm thick rad that will be going in the top of the case, I could of used a thicker rad or go push/pull but wanted to be able to see my whole motherboard and this fits just perfect
Alphacool NexXxoS UT60 Full Copper Radiator 240. 60mm thick rad going push/pull in the front of the case
Both rads next to each other
CPU block after getting pulled out of my old build
And cleaned, also with a toothbrush and toothpaste
Polished CPU block before and after
It looks much better installed in the build with fluid
EK RAM Block Polished
Pump
Pump top
250 res
Primochill Ghost Green Rigid Compression Fittings
Primochill Clear Rigid Acrylic Tube. I bought way more than I needed in case I messed up the bending lol
That's it for now as it's getting really late here, nearly 1am on a Sunday night. Hope you enjoyed an overview of most of the components. I will be uploading more pics tomorrow.
