roberto++ got a reaction from Tech_Dreamer in What Tech Advice would You give Yourself if you could travel 3-5 years back in time?
PC related: Don't use your computer's side panel as a test bench for your motherboard, use cardboard instead.
Cisco hardware related: Startup and Running are 2 different configurations. Learn it, know it, and back them both up.

Check your BIOS settings and see if you have RAID or ACHI enabled.
RAID will require the driver from the motherboard website. If Im not mistaken, you will need to use the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver, I would add a folder to your windows installation USB, and add the driver there.
it will ask you for the INF file associated with the RAID driver, add that and should be good to go.

roberto++ reacted to Cazure in Transfer RAID (0) to a new MOBO
Currently I'm upgrading my PC with some new hardware. I'm going from an AMD CPU+MOBO (ddr3) to an Intel CPU+MOBO (ddr4). I have in my 'AMD' setup a RAID 0 configuration with 2 SSD's.
My question is:
What are the necessary steps to transfer the drives savely? I know that I'm going to lose all my data, so I backed it all up, that isn't a problem. But do I need to un-RAID the drives so that they don't break, or can I just disconnect them from the old and connect them to the new MOBO and set them up in a new RAID 0 setup?
Greetings,
Cazure.

larger fans you can run at a slower speed to move the same amount of air of smaller fans. This gives you a quieter system if that is what you are going for.
although 200mm have less variety than the 140mm if i recall

roberto++ reacted to Mighty_Miro_WD in RAID help needed!
Hi there @Liquidshadow!
I don't think it's possible to make a RAID 0/10 implementation that can grow without doing a rebuild, which requires reformatting the hard drives in the array.
What I would personally do is to back up the data, reconfigure the RAID and after that to restore the information on the new array.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

Every time you set up a new RAID array, the drives need to be formatted

roberto++ reacted to Lotus in Cheap Windows?
When I worked at a shop that did custom builds, there's no getting around it. We allowed the end user to provide their own license if they had one, but there's no cheaper legit way of getting windows. OEM is the best price you can find without the dreamspark program, and that's only supposed to be available to students and are temporary licenses (screw you G2A!).

No, unless you share drives and it is a worm that can jump through a network connecting to other computers.

roberto++ reacted to DirkW in Why is my drive split this way? I can't create one big partition
@bydus
(BTW please follow your own topics)
I agree, it looks like MBR being the culprit here.

roberto++ reacted to MrKickkiller in Why is my drive split this way? I can't create one big partition
Do you have any files on that drive?
I believe the problem is your partition table. If you have it set to MBR, only 2.2tb is supported by the OS. If you want to change it to GPT, you will need to reformat your drive to do so.

roberto++ got a reaction from Tech_Dreamer in 4TB hybrid drive shows up as 2TB
your 4TB is configured with MBR which has a limit of 2TB per partition. To utilize all 4TB as 1 drive letter, you must reconfigure the drive to GPT.
doing the conversion from MBR to GPT will delete all existing data on the drive, and it is recommended to make a backup before attempting the conversion.
I would use gparted to delete all existing partitions on the drive. When you install win 8 on your ssd leave the 4TB off for now. once install on the ssd is complete, attach the 4tb drive and go to disk management.
This screen will pop up, you want the GPT because the drive is over 4TB.

i think you need it reformat & set partition in GPT instead of MBR, MR paritition limit is 2 tb 's i think..

roberto++ got a reaction from husseinHr in Can't use my USB to install Windows 7!?!
verify the sha1 hash value, i use hashcalc for windows. mac you can use the terminal instructions http://osxdaily.com/2012/02/05/check-sha1-checksum-in-mac-os-x/
Microsoft has a list of all sha1 hash on their website http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/downloads/
if your value matches the one listed on the website, you have a good matching iso to microsoft.

do you have a password on your computer? I have seen when you have a password, the usb driver takes a long time to install, 5 minutes or more. Do you have a ps2 keyboard around? PS2 does not require drivers to be installed which may help you out.

Depends on the satellite, Hubble Telescope for example is a horrible spy camera as noted in this XKCD what if question, https://what-if.xkcd.com/32/

Not only would it be the other way around... (That's why you don't freeze a liquid in a glass bottle) but as @T.Vengance stated it's not a real factor.

Test the card, no matter what you do. Ask to run GPU-Z and monitor it while running a benchmark if possible. Listen for coil whine, and look/listen for any other issues.
