Exactly, people had been expecting a new Alien game announcement as far back as the Game Awards, for them to say it's a mobile game, it's like hyping someone up for a new installment of a popular yet neglected franchise and leaving it for the last announcement to then tell them it's for 'mobile devices'. cough cough Blizzcon 2018 cough. Their Twitter said something else is coming so perhaps this is a complimentary game to some new installment in the Alien series.
Not to mention, while Isolation was critically a success it wasn't a success financially. It just didn't sell well for whatever reason. Maybe the experience was too intense for some, maybe the interest in the series wasn't there. For me it probably wasn't a genre I would enjoy personally. People weren't even expecting a sequel until last year when rumors began circulating, they said they have something else in the pipeline so we'll wait and see.

Also, side note for game publishers. Don't announce mobile games like their triple A titles...no one cares...seriously. Just send out some marketing saying, hey the game is launching in a week or so, here you go. Don't make it into something it's not because for the most part mobile games aren't even remotely comparable to full titles, not even close.

Remember Alien: Isolation, the most well recepted game out of all of the Alien games to date? Yeah.... lets ditch that formula and make a mobile game.

I really dislike mobile gaming. It's where most developers seem to be putting all the money, given that it makes up more than half of the gaming industry.

I don't get this, system exclusives have always been a thing but people always complain about mobile exclusives these days but I've yet to see a mobile game that I couldn't play on PC. I was heavy into "mobile" games for about 6 months last year (specifically 1 MMO that felt like Diablo 2 with better graphics), but I always played on PC. When the new Diablo gets released I'll be playing it on my PC just like when this game gets released so thanks for bringing this one to my attention.

I absolutely LOVE the Alien films and Alien Isolation.

But what the hell?? The best part of Isolation was its immersion and how terrifying the xenomorph was. How am I supposed to get that on my phone

They really should have marketed this better. Cause it could be a pretty decent toilet game. And there is talks about another game being worked on by another company. So they just hyped this up and as everyone expected, a knee jerk reaction from the community, which again everyone expected. So marketing could have been better, but I do hope for the other game being worked on...though who knows how that'll turn out.

I seriously thought this was clickbait when I first saw the news article....

Lets continue. Thank you whoever decided this would be great, the sequel to Alien: Isolation is finally getting a sequel. Alien: Blackout is coming in the future. A sequel would be awesome, but the future isn't bright at this point.

Instead of taking the more common single player route, players will not be playing the new character in First Person, and instead will follow Amanda Ripley from a new "voyeuristic role".

Alien: Isolation is an amazing game, and naturally I was curious to see what the system specs will be... Well, pretty low actually since it's not coming to consoles or PC. It will be a mobile exclusive.

If you are interested in the game specifics, it looks like it'll be more supervisory fashion. To be honest, it's giving me a more in-depth feel of Lifeline, for those who have played it. Also a mobile game, but not the cash grab kind. In Alien: Blackout, your actions will influence the game and with the other characters in the mobile world.

I'm not very excited. I don't know who is to blame... Fornite? Activision and the future Diablo? Candy Crush? Since when do Mobile Games get this much attention. As a gamer, I do feel let down. I refuse to do any real gaming on my phone. Anything that takes longer than the amount of time to go to the bathroom or wait for a doctors appointment is too long.

Also, with this being on mobile, I fear the cashgrab will be real with this one. I can only imagine that things will probably have the clock timer mechanics built into activities, and you can speed them up by spending in game currency, etc... Not really excited about this, and thought it was another good mobile game that will let down it's playerbase.

I might just be negative Nancy here, but if you agree, disagree, or anything else, lets discuss.

Maybe one day a mobile game will come with a PC companion app....

Ryujin2003 reacted to Delicieuxz in Almost every politician in Germany has had their personal data leaked online
Threads involving politicians and political actions are not automatically political. In a recent thread, one that I made, there was very little political discourse in it, and there was some meaningful discussion in it, but there was a huge amount of people saying 'I think this is too political' and 'waiting for this to be locked'.

There is no positive value to saying that something is political and therefore likely to be locked. If discussion goes sour, then it will be locked - and if it doesn't go sour, then the purpose in not allowing political discussion is not violated by the discussion. But when people make vapid posts like 'I think this will be locked' / 'this is political', they only increase the likelihood that the thread will be locked, even if there wasn't any negative discussion going on - and some lower-quality people even make their 'this is political' / 'this is going to get locked' posts knowing that by doing so they're inviting the thread to be locked and do so deliberately.

That goes for lots of Tech News discussions: What was the tech angle of the CEO of Huawei being arrested in Canada? She works for a tech company?

This back-seat moderation and trying to evaluate whether something is too political or not is as bad as nasty political partisanship arguments.

85%+ of responses in this thread are now contemplating whether the thread is political and should be locked. What an inane waste of post-space. Just discuss the topic or don't, and leave the rest to the moderators. Don't bloat topics with commentary that doesn't contribute anything.

How many of us old folks like to compare current games to our earlier experiences looks Doom, Duke Nukem, Wing Commander, etc? Fortnite will eventually die off, and regardless of personal opinion on the game, it has already left it's mark of success that others will continue to emulate in future games.

compared to the times when Steam started out:
    > releasing a game could only be done through publishing houses
    > publishers split used to be around 50% to 60% revenue split (for the publishers)
    > Indie games being practically inexistent, outside of some fringe sharewares
    > Brick and mortars stores asking even more money just to give you a good shelf

30% share valves take is almost nothing compared to all the services and tools they also provide to developers:
    > Steamworks
    > Steamworks provides networking and player authentication tools for both server and peer-to-peer multiplayer games
    > matchmaking services
    > support for Steam community friends and groups
    > Steam statistics and achievements
    > integrated voice communications
    > Steam Cloud support
    > anti-cheating devices and digital copy management
    > And again: Steamplay
    > And F*, for how much i hate it, even the ability to simply sell uncomplete, beta or alpha state games
    > And ability to release updates for their games on the fly with no added costs

I'm going to stay on the same page as I was in the Epic store thread:
    > Steam actively pushes for steamplay
    > Steamplay initiative brought more games that I could have ever wished for to Linux
    > Valve only one of this store pushing for making Linux gaming viable
    > Valve can get all of my game money for all I care.

I use discord for chat and voice anyway so if it's a good indie game I'll support the indie devs by prioritizing discord.

Situation is not much different han the epic games launcher really, except their popularity rides on Fortnite. Discord's popularity on the other hand isn't as notorious yet I feel more stable than capitalizing just on Fortnite.
