Rickie cheong reacted to Donut417 in should i buy from amazon
Amazon sent me the wrong cooler once upon the time. Actually it was the right cooler, but it was for socket 2011 rather than what I needed. The boxes look the same. I sent them an email and in about an hour I had email confirmation they had shipped the correct one out. They gave me a UPS packing slip and RMA form. Once I got the new one and used the shipping box to send the wrong one back. It was very painless.

Rickie cheong reacted to SpaceMonkey in What major should I choose
I'm in my last semester for a bachelors in IT with a security-focused minor. "Computer repair" isn't really a major.
(Depending on the school) You've basically got
Information Technology (networking/database type stuff) Computer Science (programming) Computer Engineering (closer to electrical engineering) Best Buy wants real world experience, and "I build gaming machines" isn't the most convincing thing to put on a resume. Look for a job at a smaller local computer store.
You do not need a degree to work as a technician repairing computers. A Comptia A+ cert is easy and can give you a bit of credibility (esp if you're young and looking for a summer/part time job)
tldr; no, you don't need a degree to build computers

5820k is still better than 6700k because of its extra cores,so you are golden

Rickie cheong reacted to LogicalDrm in How do wire the components of the computers
Manuals are good. They list which cable you plug where, which way it goes etc. Usually you can't plug cables wrong way because the shape of them. Case wires are bit difficult, but with mobo manual and patience it will go well. Just remember to make sure everything is tight. Its not first nor last time when PC doesn't boot because of loose PSU cable.

Rickie cheong reacted to ShadowCaptain in How do wire the components of the computers
yeah the motherboard manual (its also printed on the board) will explain where the cables from your PSU you, so the 24 pin, the 4pin CPU etc
You have the cables from the PSU that connect to the motherboard/components
24 Pin
4 Pin CPU
SATA Power
8Pin GPU Power (or whatever your GPU requires)
You have cables that go from the case to the motherboard
Front panel audio
Power switch/reset switch/leds
USB 3 etc
and the cables between components and motheboard, genreally SATA cables
thats just a quick basic example

Rickie cheong reacted to BudderedPopcorn in How to over clock cpu
To over clock, you need a good motherboard and BIOS. You then go into BIOS and you can change your clock rate.
