Depends on the CPU, though every Ryzen 7000 series chip I'm aware of comes with a version of the game (the Ryzen 9s come with the premium edition, everything else comes with the standard edition).

Not every company will but a lot do. I wouldnt buy a game without seeing the game play first.

Nah, I have enough self control that either it's worth it to me, or it's not. If it wasn't, I wouldn't have paid.  No regrets, and excited for the coming weekend.

As a rule, I don't preorder, but I am very excited for this one.  I won't play on launch, but as long as reviews are decent I'll snag it.

Yeah, the realease is heavy on "suspense" or "hype" if you will. Yet all preliminary signs seem to indicate the game will be really good.
And yeah, having an "expansion" in the release seems dubious.

Yes, even though it's embargoed, the fact they gave out early copies and impressions seem good is very promising indeed. We do need to manage our expectations though... not because of anything bad about the game. Just because they can get to a point that no game could satisfy, lol.

I'd normally never pay extra for a few days early access, but BGS franchises are some of my favorites, and the real kicker was that it moved the release day from a Tues to a Friday (Thursday really), and on a long weekend to boot! Then throw in some mission stuff. So I couldn't say no.

    They got me.

I absolutely can not wait for Starfield. F03 and FONV are two of my fav games of all time and I have played through those games like 10x. If starfield is as good as those I imagine I will sink hundreds or even thousands of hours into it over the coming months and years. I'm getting it when it comes out.

maartendc reacted to TheProfosist in Gamers Nexus alleges LMG has insufficient ethics and integrity
I thought this was going to be far less reasonable than it was. The comments on the video and here on the forums are less so.

I will say I dont think Linus's reply will go over well due to its tone. Also was rather surprised GN had no comment from LMG on it at all. Usually they would ask other companies and mention it even if no response based on previous coverage.

For me the Billet Labs thing is a complete f-up. I feel like inventory and tracking has not been a strong suit for them since they moved everything. My solution would be get it back if at all possible, compensate both parties for their losses and time, the double the donation as a gesture.

Im more irked about when they know there is an error and correct it in video, like reshoot that or dub it. If you know its bad dont put it out. Those just shouldnt be there, lop them out! Its almost as if the video is edited them someone watches it and adds the notes/corrections.

As for the issues on the graphs. I dont know if anyone but another tech reviewer would have noticed, especially en-masse. I have definitely run CrystalDisk in the wrong mode and only found out when I'm done editing or even published the video/review. Realistically at that point im not retesting everything. I'll either cut that item/graph/result or mention its borked.

Until Labs is up and they have actively updated data replacing/updating it isnt reasonable. Just because they have the ability to replace a video, doesnt mean it's a feature that should be used regularly.

Though, for context I generally dont look at LTT/LMG or anyone else for that matter as the end-all for testing. Realistically, how do I make recommendations? Based on hands-on experience! I know not everyone can do that. How do I know how a 3060 Ti preforms? Because, ive played games im familiar with on it. I'd also argue that those of you min-maxing every bit of your build is the wrong way to go about it but thats a different discussion.

Now should people who are paid to get it right, get it right, yes. I have made plenty of errors like that. Gone entirely wrong directions at work based on bad data. Timeline gets pushed or im staying late or in on the weekend. However if its a process flaw sometimes you just run with it since its all you have time to do and correct it the next time around. Gotta make sure you do that though. In some cases its take 1yr+ to develop and implement processes that I'm in charge of to a point where I'm happy. That never stops though and there is always something you can improve and do better.

I mean, yes, it is obvious that more goes into engineering something as complex as a GPU than most consumers understand. But the simple fact remains, VRAM is not an issue, until you run out of it.

I would say the hardware is even more complex than most "tech Youtubers" understand. Most reviewers have a pretty limited understanding of how the hardware actually works, they just run some benchmarks.

The only exception would be Digital Foundry. Whenever I listen to their podcast, I am amazed by how much they know about how games, game engines and 3D visuals are actually made and work. But then strangely they are mostly a software / games channel, whereas they probably understand more about the hardware than most hardware reviewers.

The only other exception is maybe Gamers Nexus. They do a lot of in depth testing. But even with them, I am sometimes not sure if they understand the full picture of how everything works.

Max GPU clearance is about 267mm long, 54mm thick. So the reference 6950XT should just barely fit.

Ok thanks, that's the feeling I got about the 6700XT as well. The 6700XT would probably be OK for now, but I tend to keep my hardware for a long time, so it feels like it would start to struggle quite quickly.

    Thanks!

    About 6700XT, seems a bit weak for solid 1440p 60FPS,  I'd get the 6950XT

LOL. And it sounds like you've worked at the C-suite of a fast food corporation buddy.

Stacking supermarket shelves is also a shit job. Yet people fight to get jobs at Costco. Why? Because they actually pay their employees well, offer good healthcare and other benefits, and try to make the job environment as pleasant as possible. And their business is booming.

    What a bunch of BS.

I live in Europe. We have very good minimum wages, also for restaurant workers. Tipping is nonexistent here, as they are paid a normal living salary.

Still, restaurants are abundant. Fast food exists here. Pigs are not flying (yet), hell hasn't frozen over. Go figure.

Sounds like you have been brainwashed by the talking points the corporations use to lobby against minimum wage increases. The only thing that will happen if you raise the minimum wage is the C-suite executives can't buy a third boat or a fourth private jet.

If they are so poorly run or doing poorly that they need to resort to these kinds of tactics, yes, let them go out of business. If you cannot find enough employees, maybe try paying them a wage they can actually live on.

This is the same kind of logic that people used in my country when the government implemented a digital cash register system that made it much harder for restaurants and bars to evade taxes. "But they will go out of business". Good, if they are so poorly run they cannot afford to pay their taxes, they deserve to go out of business. FFS.

maartendc reacted to 8tg in Apple suspended production of M2 Chips due to falling demand for Macs
They need to combine the best of all worlds and price it right. People aren’t caring because the overall interest in laptops as a whole has been diminished, especially in the consumer sector. In the professional sector anyone who would buy a MacBook is probably also looking at the recent competition from the last few years, more of the business laptop companies are putting effort into making hybrid workstation/fashion laptops and marketing them towards creators and home hobbyists, the same audience as higher end MacBook users generally inhabit.

So where apple faltered here at least in my opinion is they didn’t keep their low end bread and butter money makers desirable, the air and 14” pro. They have a reasonable market with the higher end pro models, and now those models have some real competition even. But the air and 14” pro were basically neglected in what they were supposed to be, mass consumer appealing machines to keep money moving versus the slower sales of higher end machines.
I think a lot of that comes down to the air and 14” pro have basically no features appealing to the consumer anymore beyond being ARM. And for the average consumer who would buy a low end MacBook, they don’t even know what that means or care. Maybe you can win out on the better battery life, even then most people will trade off battery life for performance.
I think apple could revitalize some interest in the low end MacBook market by introducing some new features to them hardware wise.

maartendc reacted to WereCat in Graphics card for 1440p gaming?
    Agree.
My guess is that they don't compress the data so that you don't have to spend resources decompressing it which should result in better performance at the cost of more DRAM and VRAM usage but... these games are still heavily CPU bound anyways and run like ass for the most part so I'm not sure if that's the case.
