NinJake reacted to Eigenvektor in Can I remote into a work VPN while having cloudflare family DNS as my routers DNS?
A DNS server can't really block a VPN connection (or malware). It could refuse (or be unable to) to resolve the host name of your brother's work place to their IP, but that's about it. Once the IP has been resolved, the DNS server isn't involved anymore and the connection is between home and office.
The claim that their DNS "blocks malware" is also… well, it's marketing. The only thing they really do is refuse to resolve host names of sites that are classified as containing malware or adult content. That's it. They can't actively block the connection.
It's like saying my telephone book blocks you from calling adult hotlines. It may not contain their numbers, but that doesn't mean they don't still exist and can be called, if you get hold of the number any other way.
So if a kid is somewhat technically inclined, they can just reconfigure their PC to use any other DNS server and Cloudflare's "protection" is null and void. Or better yet, install a RasPi with their own caching DNS server, with any other DNS server as its upstream 😛

Check the polarity. If they are wired out of phase then the lower frequencies will be attenuated due to the cones moving in opposite directions.

NinJake reacted to Kilrah in Audio Transfer
Yep, was straightforward. You really want both machines wired, with fixed IPs, set the transmitting machine to send to the IP of the receiving one, then once started on the receiving end right click on one of the "Stream name" fields and it should find the stream, click on it, select the destination strip and you should be good to go. Make sure to actually enable VBAN on the page 😄

NinJake reacted to Kilrah in Audio Transfer
I've been using Voicemeeter on the Windows side for receiving and mixing (need at least the Banana version for the VBAN integration) and vban_emitter on the linux machine, worked great.

NinJake reacted to Levent in Best free tool for motherboard diagnostics?
why are you downloading hwinfo from shitty leech websites like that?
https://www.hwinfo.com/download/
hwinfo is a monitoring tool. It wont tell you if your board has any issues, it will display sensor data. Finding issues is the technicians (in this instance, you) job.

I agree, I don't think anyone will be able to help them besides Google themselves unfortunately.

Yeah, with 50k followers, they should be talking to YT

Shouldn't they be asking Youtube?

They need to contact Google support, there's nothing anyone of us can do about that.

NinJake reacted to 191x7 in What are the best headphones for PC gaming
Just headphones aren't the solution. And there is no "single best".
If you want the lowest latency, using the onboard audio chip (usually Realtek and that means a modern Realtek like the 1200 series or newer) is recommended.
Suppose you want the best audio experience (but a bit higher latency) with perhaps hard-to-drive headphones/IEM-s (high impedance or low sound-to-noise ratio or both). In that case, a decent DAC AMP unit or a stack (separate AMP and DAC one-on the other) is recommended, and eventually a good dongle DAC with inbuilt AMP.
Then you have to decide if you want open-back or closed-back headphones. or IEMs. or both to interchange.
In-ear monitors (IEM-s) sit between open and closed-back headphones when it comes to sound, but they do not cause "gamer hair" since there's no part that would sit on top of the head and push your hair down.
Soundwise, you want gear that doesn't limit you as the player and lets you hear all the stuff you're supposed to hear.
And that's for headphones - Sennheiser HD 560S, HD 490 Pro, Fiio JT1, Beyerdynamic DT 990, DT 900 Pro X, 1990, HarmonycDyne Zeus
For IEMs models like - QKZ x HBB, Truthear Nova, Moondrop Lan, Truthear Crinacle Zero, Simgot EM6L or better.
Check Fresh Reviews for the reviews and comparisons, he does for Apex, Valorant, CoD, and RS6.
As for the AMP&DAC, I'd say you'd be fine with an Akliam PD4, Truthear Shio, Moondrop Dawn Pro, or something similar.

NinJake reacted to Stahlmann in why does every youtubers buy high end camera and still just upload non hdr videos.
Firefox doesn't support HDR at all, which is the main reason why I don't use it.
I don't know why you're so fixated on PCI-P3 color space coverage as your indicator of HDR quality. A monitor with 85% coverage and a good local dimming backlight will have better HDR than a monitor with 99% coverage and no local dimming.
Decent HDR monitors can be had for $280 nowadays, but it's only one specific model from AOC so far. All the other monitors that market HDR in this price range don't offer any real HDR capabilities.

144p60 HDR. What an experience.

Cool clouds, cool godrays, not in love for the foreground. Seems to me you have some decent rocky outcrops on the right? I feel like perhaps if the composition was adjusted and you boost the shadows you could have a stunner of a photo. Or maybe lean into the clouds more with a longer lens/tighter crop.

NinJake reacted to TatamiMatt in How do i ensure im grounded and not damage my pc while working on it?
Screw the PSU into the case to make good contact, plug PSU into wall socket but dont switch on, this will make a physical path for static buildup to flow through. Then attach wrist strap (to wrist at one end obvs 😋) to anywhere on the case, this will ground you and the case and keep you static free, but this shouldn't fry any components, Linus did a video with Electroboom recently where they actively tried to destroy components with shocks much stronger than static shocks and found it VERY hard to
EDIT: oh true, what @Average Nerd said about exposed ground, always forget other countries dont also have this

NinJake reacted to Spotty in Data Breaches Arent a Joke - AT&T and the 73 million user data leak
Oof. At least they encrypted it, I guess?
Also looks like - for the birth dates at least - the encrypted data wasn't salted. The dataset has birth dates in an encrypted state. It includes a separate file (rainbow table) for birthdays which just includes every possible birth date combination and its encrypted value. It's possible to compare the encrypted value from the dataset to the table of birth dates to get the true value.
I'm actually surprised that birth dates were encrypted at all.
2021 was when an attempt was made to sell data stolen from AT&T. Apparently this data has been confirmed by AT&T to be from 2019 and include data on current and former customers from 2019 and prior.
If it was 2019 then the attacker would have generated every possible birth date combination since 1900 (1900 - 2019 = 119 years).
I wonder if that is also the same for the SSNs, since that also includes a separate table for decrypting the values. If SSNs weren't salted and they had the encryption key they could have just generated a table of every possible social security number and their encrypted value.

NinJake reacted to Lurick in Data Breaches Arent a Joke - AT&T and the 73 million user data leak
Oh that's what was extra fun. The passcode is to identify you as the authorized user for the account after other verification methods. However since I was logged in the rep just asked what I wanted to update it to and set it from there for my internet account. I think it's different if you have a wireless line with AT&T but it's still stupid that it was that easy to update it. They are supposed to, from what I've read have you verify other information since the automated system requires your last 4 digits of the SSN and your billing zip but yah, I would say they fail on keeping that part secure as well 🙂
You can't even have a recovery phone number if you do not have a wireless number with AT&T, you can only do email which is pretty dumb in itself.

NinJake reacted to Lurick in Data Breaches Arent a Joke - AT&T and the 73 million user data leak
I got the email the other day, they said only my passcode was impacted but we'll see if that's really the case. The email said they would follow up more in the coming days with more information.
As a side note, for anyone else who had their passcode reset as a part of this, you cannot use the online tools to reset your passcode. It will say your information is incorrect so I had to go through customer service to get it changed. The rep I spoke to said it was a system issue they're working on fixing. Fun times 🙂

Summary
-This is Not an April Fools Joke-
AT&T, one of the Big Three Cellular Network providers as well as internet to millions of Americans, announced that a dark web database was released containing 7.3M active AT&T users and 65M inactive users. Most concerning is the leak of Social Security numbers and dates of birth.
Quotes
My thoughts
First AT&T had the major service outage, and now a massive breach of personal data. While the data is speculated to be from 2021, it is unknown how far back the data extends, so customers who switched form AT&T back in 2018 (Hi, hello, its me) could still be affected. Admittedly I was part of a family plan so my SSN should be safe(r).
As a reminder, using both a 2FA app like Google Authenticator as well as a Password manager are some of the best ways you can protect yourself in the digital world we now live in, which feels almost inevitable that our data will be at some point compromised.

NinJake reacted to SteveBinLaden in Rate the Photo Above you
I think that's a really good example of the value of a good foreground, perhaps taken to the extreme, as I think the "foreground" is almost the subject of the photo in that it is the main source of unique contribution, which makes the visual appeal even more unique.
