Please don't skimp on your PSU.
I get flamed many times by people because I always tell them to "over-buy", but I stand by my words no matter how many people hate me.
The PSU is the *MOST IMPORTANT* part of your system.  Just like the heart is the most critical part of your body (Followed by the brain).
Your PSU supplies the blood flow (electricity) to your computer.  Don't you want your heart to function properly?  Do you know what happens to people with heart disease?

Don't skimp on the PSU.  Other components can be easily swapped out.  And try to see if you can get a PSU that comes with 16 aug cables if possible.

I think you're confusing 'overkill' with 'adequate', to be perfectly honest.
While you could probably run a 2080 off of something like an MWE White v2 or CXM, it doesn't mean you should. Ideally you'd want to get something that's not just borderline passable, for what it's supposed to be powering.

Think in this way. The GPU requires a stable 12v. While a good quality power supply will provide solid 12v all the time no matter what. A cheapy PSU will drop the 12v rail to 11.3v(for example) under heavy load. Then you see the game, or the PC crash. Does it make it easier to understand?

I woudn't do that. Get something good right away, it's the better option.

    That would be a mistake.

You would be better off not even getting a 3080 at all, or not upgrading period if that's what you are going to do.

These people don't know what these cards actually take because they don't own one. Or how much power these cards really do pull and about the transient power spikes.

Just get the RM 850 and be done with it.

The reviews won't be out after the release, they'll be out before, just like how the 3070 review embargo released today for the founders edition, which will be available in 2 days.

If you might ever have need to send something back for warranty replacement, keep the box for the warranty period at least. It's just easier with original packaging. Maybe for the case you can bin it, assuming it arrives ok there isn't much to go wrong with those. That's also quite a space hog too.

Usually I keep the motherboard box and throw most other stuff in there. If you have an Intel build, especially be sure to keep the socket cover!
Other than that, I keep the GPU and PSU box. For resale value and warranty purposes respectively.
It's a good idea to keep the (optional for your PC) mounting hardware for your cooler.. The RAM packaging is usually so small, I keep it in the motherboard box.

The serial on the packaging will match the serial number on the product, so taking a picture of that is not really of much help.

By the way, you could choose to keep the case packaging (including the foam inside). If you ever want to move the PC as a whole, that is the most convenient box for it.

Motherboard, GPU and PSU are imo the most important boxes to keep as those parts fail the most.

You might get away with not having to you might not. If you see much higher temps then before then you'll really want to clean the surface and replace it with fresh compound.

If you don't mind using up a PCI_e slot you can buy a NIC if you'd prefer to go that route.

    1. Yes, any DDR4 will be compatible
    2. Your case CPU cooler clearance is 167mm max, and the Dark Rock Pro 4 is 163mm tall, so it will fit, just barely.
    3. Yes, most definitely.
    4. No. Not at all. The only things that make use of PCI-e4 are very fast SSD's that havent even released yet.

    Good luck!

Did you mean gpu, not cpu in this comment? If not, it is a confusing statement.

I suggested an M.2 NVMe drive that makes use of the available PCIe 4.0 lanes. It has higher performance than PCIe 3.0 models. Faster storage means better overall system performance,

More memory generally means better overall performance. It means more and bigger buffers, more stuff kept in memory rather than swap, etc. The improvement may be small, depending on the use case, but the requirement was to improve a pretty decent system within a certain budget.

Niel_A reacted to MeatFeastMan in x570 Eu Prices makes no sense?
Because the European Union has a tax known as VAT. That number tends to be around 20%, although it differs slightly in some countries.

Also, the EU prices are different depending on the country (Excluding VAT). On top of VAT, some countries also have their own taxes and bits and pieces.

I live in the UK and thankfully the pound is very similar to the dollar when you factor in VAT. (The UK is a member of the EU but does not use the Euro)

Also, none of those boards are worthwhile. If you want high end x570, the prestige x570 creation gives you everything those boards do for around $100 cheaper (And arguably more in some cases).

The better the VRM the better overclocks you get

but buying a $700 board with a monstruosity of VRM is not necessarily a good idea.

Indead those boards are for LN2 OC mostly, just get one with a VRM that doesn't stink hard

You can watch gamers nexus and actually hardcore overclocking, they will tell you what VRM is OK. Otherwise we need to get into "boring" electronics stuff.

that's just with x570 in general because it uses pcie 4.0, which even the top tiers can saturate, and only the 5700 series currently support it

one is pcie 3 and tops out around 2.5 gigs sequential (which normally isn't achievable), and the aorus around 4-4.5 gigs

    vrm=power delivery

a fully maxed out (I'm talking full custom waterloop, close to frying voltage) 3900x would use about 150a, which about any motherboard on x570 can do without problems

the power delivery configuration is the same on the prime p as it is on the maximus xi hero

it can, up to ln2 level even, but most x570's can easily do that 150a that 12c needs

the prime p actually has the vrm setup of the maximus xi hero
