No saving money because I get it from my work. The budget I don't use is wasted

I want to play VR Valve Index on max settings 120fps. I can't wait because my old PC is broken. I could maybe use an extra hdd for files I never need but I don't think I will fill the current 1TB. I'm thinking about changing out my ssd for the aorus nvme gen 4 ssd.

Why the Taichi ? I mean it's a good board but you could easily go with something like an MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon and save $140.

 

The psu is also way more than needed. A good 650W is already enough. Probably be fine with a 550W.

Replace the M.2 NVMe drive with a PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe drive. Perhaps Corsair - MP600 Force Series Gen4 1 TB M.2-2280 or even Corsair - MP600 Force Series Gen4 2 TB.

 

If you can live with the color, you might consider getting G.Skill - Ripjaws V 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600.

The PSU is more than I need but was a good deal when I chose it, I will chose a 650 depending the prices when I order.
I going for the Taichi for better VRM so I can overclock more, I guess?

Why are you recommending pcie4? My cpu can't even max out pcie3? Would it be better to invest in an extra TB pcie3 then?

The 3xxx series don't seem to have that much overclocking headroom from what I have seen. The Taichi is a good board though so no issue with it on the VRM front.

 

With the $450 left you could probably go with a 2080 ti instead of the 2080/2080S. Maybe wait and see how the 2080S performs when it releases on the 23rd and how it is priced.

How about 2x 2070s sli? Wouldn't that give better performance then 1 2080ti?

Most games don't benefit from SLI/crossfire anymore.

SLI is pretty much dead these days. Better to stick with a single gpu. None of the B450 boards support SLI anyway.

 

The Taichi has the stronger VRM than the B450 Gaming Pro Carbon, but the 3000 series are not good overclockers in general anyway. I would just let Precision Boost do it's own thing.

 

I would say if you need to spend all of the $2500 then get the strongest gpu you can (2080 ti or the 2080S for a bit less if it reviews well) and then work out the board from there depending on what you have left to spend. If you got the cheaper CM H500 case for example at $99 you could probably still go with the Taichi.

Did you mean gpu, not cpu in this comment? If not, it is a confusing statement.

 

I suggested an M.2 NVMe drive that makes use of the available PCIe 4.0 lanes. It has higher performance than PCIe 3.0 models. Faster storage means better overall system performance, 

 

More memory generally means better overall performance. It means more and bigger buffers, more stuff kept in memory rather than swap, etc. The improvement may be small, depending on the use case, but the requirement was to improve a pretty decent system within a certain budget.
