I just build my pc and everything was working fine but all of the sudden after a reboot I cant connect to the internet anymore.
I tried resetting my bios.
Took out ram for an hour.
I tried installing the lan driver from the website but get this error:"Realtek Network Controller was not found".
In device manager there are is no network controller, only multiple wan miniport devices and in other devices there are pcie devices, pcie controller and a sm buscontroller.
In bios I reenabled "realtek Lan controller".
I've unplugged my pc for 12 hours.
But nothing fixes it.

Sounds like the NIC up & died if it doesn't show up in device manager and installing the driver says the device doesn't exist. Does it show up with ipconfig?

Only thing I can recommend here is try booting another OS. Could be Linux on a thumb drive. Try going online. Run ip ad, see if the NIC is there, if it got an IP.

Ipconfig shows an empty list.

Saying it died is the easiest solution but on the internet many people had the problem before me and fixed it.

This is why I suggested booting another OS. This will tell us if it's just something weird that Windows is doing.

Still nothing, I also reinstalled Windows

Signs are pointing to hardware failure then.

Can you RMA the board? Otherwise you can pick up a cheap 1Gbit NIC.

I can RMA the board but its weird that it broke after a few hours and not immediatly. Also if I replace the motherboard, do I need to reapply thermal paste?

When there's a NIC failure that's a pretty common failure mode. It works for a short time then *poof* it's gone.

I had a NIC where it worked fine for about an hour then Windows kept disabling it in Device Manager saying something went wrong and no amount of testing or tinkering brought it back. Had to RMA the motherboard.

You will need to remove the CPU cooler & CPU and it is recommended to re-apply thermal paste when re-assembling but some testing has shown that you don't necessarily have to. Are you working with pre-applied compound or your own?

I had pre applied compount so I would have to buy it. I will try installing an older version of windows one last time but my replacement is coming Thursday already.

Thanks for the help

You might get away with not having to you might not. If you see much higher temps then before then you'll really want to clean the surface and replace it with fresh compound.

If you don't mind using up a PCI_e slot you can buy a NIC if you'd prefer to go that route.
