Sorry you went through that but glad it all worked out in the end.

Stories like this are why I think I may stick to a brick & mortar store like Microcenter for my GPU purchases. In 2020, I spent less time waiting outside before the store opened to get a RTX 3080 than the amount of time I wasted chasing one online: Checking Discord, configuring store site auto monitoring, trying & failing to purchase restocks, etc.

Your part list is set to private, so I can't see what your current system is like.

Assuming you have the GPU fire power to back it up, the 5700X can be a worthwhile upgrade over the 5600X. The real competition, though is with the 5600 non-X, as that part performs basically the same as the 5600X while costing less - in this case, $17 less again. If you want that extra 2% performance, you can just turn on PBO and you'll basically have a 5600X.

I'd say that if you have a 6700XT, RTX 3060Ti, RTX 2080 or better, you should just go with the 5700X over the 5600. Anything less than that, and you can just go with the Ryzen 5 5600 - there won't really be any difference in performance.

If you're worried about troubleshooting, pick up an old card like a Quadro 600 or Quadro K400 or something off of eBay for $10 and keep it in a drawer. That's a better troubleshooting solution, anyway, as it can be used in any system - iGPU or no.

While I think an upgrade over your 3400G is certainly warranted, if you're planning on replacing the motherboard, don't go with an AM4 one. Just get AM5 or LGA1700 instead. Any in-socket upgrade past a 5700X is minimal.

I'm going to be honest with you I built my first Ryzen rig with a 1800X and carried over my 1080 from my rig previous to it when it first came out.  Good machine but did I need it even in my rare video editing uses?  Not really.  That machine lasted me a good 6-7 years before my mainboard went bad and I retired it and built my current rig with a 5600X and 3070 and it by far blows my first ryzen rig out of the water...I'm sure when I build a new one down the line the case will be the same. I mostly still play Halo MCC, Doom, and now Hogwarts Legacy with some minimal Oracle VM box use for learning Linux and experimentation.  Could I have gone with a ryzen 7 and out of sheer impulse want something beefier?  Sure at times.  Does it really matter at the end if my machine does what it needs to do?  Not really.

    Bottom Line:
Gauge out your budget and needs and build accordingly.  No such thing as future proof.

Maybe over thinking it a bit. I'd simplify it somewhat. What is a CPU that can meet your expected needs? Likewise for GPU. "bottlenecks" will swing depending on exactly how you use it too, so it isn't exact and IMO not worth over worrying about. Generally make sure the GPU is enough to drive your output expectations, and the CPU is fast enough to meet any high fps expectations.

Providing you don't go too low in spec, even if your system isn't cutting edge you can still have a great experience in games. I'd say a entry level for gaming today would be a 6 core Ryzen 3000 or Intel 8000 series CPU. Go 8 cores and you're likely fine for at least a couple years or more. Evaluate upgrading in the future when it is really needed. Don't plan for it today.

Not going to happen. Anyone who intentionally goes past the gates risks arrest, and a criminal record for the rest of their life. Best case. Worst case? The guards have permission to use lethal force - and I have no doubt they would use it if people got too close.
Even if a mass of people tried to overrun the gates, it would just result in a massacre. This is an active military base that houses classified research projects. Even if there weren't any aliens, the military would shoot on site if you got anywhere near the actual facility.

It's not "balls" actually trying to get in. It's stupidity.

Likely, if the raid actually happened, the military would use loudspeakers to announce warnings. Then, they would fire warning shots. They would give people plenty of time to turn around. And those that don't? They would be arrested, or they would be shot.

    Just watched the video.

The guys got fined $2200 USD each, and they must forfeit all electronics in their possession (eg: Phones, cameras, etc). They were also sentenced to a One Year Suspended sentence. This means as long as they comply with the plea bargain details (eg: not trespassing again, and not going to any of the Storm Area 51 events), and otherwise keep out of legal trouble, their 1 year jail sentence will be suspended and they will only serve time-served. They should have actually gotten out yesterday (Sept 19th).

They will probably also face a lifetime ban to entering the United States.

The events are cool - the concerts and gatherings. But folks need to remember that actually trying to storm an active US Military Base is uh... really fucking stupid.

If you want the first and most classic example of "products as a service" look at the music industry.  They were the first to lose CD/album sales to streaming services, now people pay monthly fees to streaming all their music rather than buy it once and play it as many times as you like on any device.  The only upside is if you get board with a certain piece you can listen to something else, but you will never have the right to own a copy of that music again.

And I know a lot of people don't like the facts but here they are:  everyone lost out with music as a service,  quality is shit, service is shit, cost is higher and the actual artist make less money (and it wasn't even their choice).

Think long and hard before endorsing the services method, there are upsides for sure, but there are also costly traps.
