Pretty much all the creators I follow will post business/life updates as Patreon/supporter exclusives.
It's not standard channel content, it's "behind the scenes" stuff and it's standard practice to keep those to a more restricted group. 

Times change, monetisation methods change. You don't owe them anything and they owe you nothing.
 
You watched their videos and got entertained/informed - that was your reward, an eternal show of gratitude to you was not in the contract.

this is *literally* the "bono doing charity work" skit from south park you're describing.

Three things that this brings up.
 
1. When has Linus been more philanthropic? When has he's gist been to help those in need and spread his wealth? When I see these types of threads, I must wonder which channel you have watched. He hasn't really changed in these perspectives. But your view on him has changed between when he was working out of garage to building Labs and badminton center. And you have to remember, most giveaways are sponsored, so sponsor has big say on who gets and what.
 
2. I'm pretty sure he knows how things are in other countries. He has extended family in Indonesia after all. Would going into another country change the views, or more importantly, the actions/content made? No. You bring up the video with Strange Parts. That's not about general wealth or what's available for middle class. That's just about what a tech mall in country with most production of the area holds. Which is why it's interesting. So having content about how bad the markets are isn't going to bring views, or change the general publics opinions towards other countries.
 
3. You want him to become more like MrBeast? Showering "the poor" with money to gain views. There's drawback with that. Yes, it will temporarily give light and happiness for small group. But also make them a target. Because the bigger picture in most of these countries isn't so rosie, having much of something expensive makes you a target. If not by common thieves, then by someone else who thinks selling the bit better laptops will give them enough money. Doing it once also would give same result as doing ANY giveaway does. Salt and grief about "why noy us" and "you are bad person for not doing this to everyone".

This. If they promised a follow up, then I suppose it's fine if you want to try and hold them to that. But otherwise, I don't think it's our business. 
 
I don't tend to concern myself with this stuff too much with companies I deal with, unless it's a little more of an issue (like massive human rights issues, etc), otherwise it's just a rabbit hole that will leave you feeling like you can't deal with a single company on the planet.

I'll plays devils advocate and say that what happens in a private company regarding private employees, their private lives and their in personal behaviors should remain private. Fans and communities over and over again have proven that they're too happy to get out the pitchforks and demand justice without knowing the full picture.
 
I trust that a 3rd party will give them proper guidance, self punishment as well as future guidelines how to prevent this from happening again.

Are you really saying that Linus and the way he does business is 9 out of 10 youtubers?
 
Guys, get a grip of the reality. LMG has more integrity than 90% of the youtube space, if not more. Linus Media Group, Gamers Nexus, Jay Z and all of the others are the top 10% of the creators and if you want to be unfair you can put LMG on the botton of this top 10%. But, don't be crazy, they are not even close to the other 90%.

15 years running the largest tech channel on youtube, an ultimately petty screw up happens ONCE and you all praise Gamers Nexus for being a snake.

I just decided to subscribe to "LTT Supporter Plus" for one year. I wanted to watch the behind the scenes videos, but I always forgot. Thanks for the reminder, guys 😉

They do have good reviews and in depth videos, but they shouldn´t act as the moral police when they can´t meet their own guidelines.

If i had to guess why, in the video Steve generally gives an example of why they don't contact a company and gives a long explination as to why that is the case and give some evidence. In the case of LTT they make a ton accusation in like 10 seconds but no explanation or evidence. Granted i only watched about 70% of the video so maybe they added it onto the end after that segment.

I've been a fan of GN for 7+ years, but I think Steve's integrity has taken a hit over this saga and I see him differently now.

Even before this recent drama, I was getting a bit annoyed at how much he attacked other people's copy and marketing for being meaningless and vague given some of his own work. Anyone remember his script for the HYTE sponsorship?

Fairly meaningless IMO. How many other cases were released? Does recently mean a week, a month, and only "one of" the most unique cases? So many qualifiers. For all we know, it's the 10th most unique case out of 20 cases to be released in the past year.

I also disliked the self-congratulatory segment regarding their modmat recall a few months back. For me, it was more of a showcase on how well they handled the situation instead of an actual apology. A mistake in a wiring diagram is potentially a serious issue.

I probably wouldn't have given all this stuff a second thought, but Steve has opened the floodgates now and it might come back to bite him. I also wonder if the long awaited 2m sub count will be bitter sweet given it was only obtained through the LTT drama.

Steve should have reached out over the Billet Labs situation and even if he won't publicly admit it, I really hope he knows it. Did Steve know it was a gift originally or that Colton tracked down the buyer, but Billet Labs still just wanted the cash instead of the block?

Well i guess Steve was way to cocky, praising themselves as the saviour for the customer in that video, kinda being arrogant?
 
@LinusTechLies GamersNexus is also just a corporation. Never forget that. Everyone who does YT for a living is a corporation. You can´t trust GN more than any other youtuber.

I've had an off taste in terms of GNs coverage for quite some time now. Goes back to Artesian where the whole video was soaked in shockumetary effects like mood setting music and footage of Steve going to the site in the dark of night. 
They really want to be journalists but imo they take pages from the wrong book. Could be a European vs American culture thing. And I don't think it invalidates their reporting in general. 
Another thing is the sarcasm/condescending tone but again, that is my personal opinion and it should not count against the content of their reporting. 
 
Its good that they take feedback but I doubt it will be changes that make me come back.

I love Ian's presentation style, just neutral facts. 

About 1/3 of the way in and this is a good look at the situation thus far.

Ian's unkind critique of some parts of this community are absolutely warranted and needed.  

Ian's critique of Steve's opinion interjection is very interesting.  

The review process where he talks about teams....

A small team that is totally on page from technicians, to writers to editing all working together with excellent communication, can be assembled within a larger organization, at least on an ad hoc basis for key projects like new GPU/CPU launches.  

Just finished watching the video and I strongly agree. 
IMO, Dr. Cutress managed to identify problems with both sides of this story. He talked about how hard can things get when you start to scale, something that GN failed to notice. He also talked about where LMG went wrong and why they need to change.
I do hope for more people to watch this video, I know it's long but I think it's necessary for everyone who is taking sides to watch this and be more level headed. Both sides (GN and LMG) made mistakes and mindlessly defending one of them or wanting to cancel the other just doesn't solve anything.

I think EVGA will cease operations within the next... *pulls out of ass*... 3 years? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't think they'll go bankrupt, I think they will just wind down operations and close. They're privately owned and the rumours I've heard (I think from GN videos?) it seems the owner just wants to get out of the business. It's possible they get bought out by another company who wants the brand but considering EVGA is really just a PSU brand at the moment I'm not really sure who would want it, that's assuming if the current owner is even interested in selling.

Whenever there is controversy they flood in, for sure. I just let them debate amongst themselves in the master thread while we go about our business on the rest of the forum.
